Fayetteville Moving and Storage(FMS from now on) were the worst packers I’ve encountered over my 20yr military career. Below is a numbered list of the issues I encountered with them: 1. The guy who did the survey said they would pack on Mon and Tue, and load on Wed. However when the team showed up on Mon, they told me they were only scheduled to pack on Mon!(Needless to say, I had not prepared my master bedroom suite to be packed so had to call the main office to get them to honor their previous commitment to pack over two days). 2. The packing team on Mon packed items I had designated as ‘High Dollar Value’ without informing me, and without letting me verify the items were packed. 3. The packing team on Mon packed my suits and business attire in regular boxes instead of wardrobes, causing me to have to dry clean all of my business attire at my destination! Conversely, they packed my t-shirts in wardrobes. Very inconsiderate and/or incompetent…(actually FYI the discovery of this was the final discovery that prompted me to make this review). 4. The packing team on Mon took all of my liquor, snacks, water, gatorades etc., which I offered… and allowed… thinking they’d be back on Tue. However, unbeknownst to me, the main office had scheduled a new packing team to come out Tue, without informing me. 5. On Tue, a new packing team arrived and acted surprised that I hadn’t been informed I’d be getting a new team.(This caused me to have to buy more snacks/water etc.) You can argue whether I really needed to buy new snacks, but if you’ve ever done a military move, you know it’s expected and your household goods(HHG) won’t be treated as well if you don’t. 6. The new team spent the day complaining about the poor packing done by the previous team on Mon. They inherited the already packed, but not inventoried, high dollar value boxes… and complained when I wanted to open them to verify the contents. Ultimately I wanted it over sooner rather than later, so caved… recognizing I didn’t observe them taking anything out of the house. Ultimately everything was fine, but they obviously failed to follow normal procedures for high dollar value items. 7. Many of the boxes were not filled, so upon delivery were crushed at the top from the weight of being stacked in the truck.(FYI, I did a door-to-door move, which undoubtedly saved me from more damage). 8. Finally, knowing I wanted a door-to-door, I asked during the survey when my HHG would be delivered. The FMS surveyor said he couldn’t guarantee, but the soonest would be the following Mon. Based on that, I planned to outprocess Bragg on Thurs/Fri, and get up to Carlisle, PA on Sat to be ready to receive my shipment on Mon. Instead, however, I was informed on Wed(when they loaded my HHG in the truck), that they’d be delivering Fri and would put it in storage of I wasn’t there to receive it! As a result, I had to drive up Thur, receive my HHGs on Fri, and pay for a one-way plane ticket back to Fayetteville on Sat. The load team(who also delivered my HHGs) were very good… professional and considerate, however I believe they were from Atlas Van Lines and not FMS. It is clear to me that FMS knows how to get over doing the bare minimum for service members PCSing. They are incompetent, disrespectful, inconsiderate, and I will refuse to allow them to assist in any of my future PCSs, and I recommend you do too!
