Good service with not so good barbecue. The beer is cheap and the food is pretty fast. It is in a good location off of 15th.
The barbecue has a good hickory smoked flavor but it is over smoked. It was a little dry and needed more fat. It was also «chopped» up which annihilates all of the porky goodness! It didn’t taste fresh and it was questionable if it was reheated. I would start pulling the butts and be sure to leave plenty of fat and fatty juices.
The service is good and there is also live music from time to time. It is a bit small on the inside so seating can be limiting. The décor is interesting but needs a good cleaning and update.

Best barbecue ! About as close to what I have to sweat over a big green egg to get !!! New owner. Not pops anymore but Bear’s place!

If this is old time barbecue we have made lots of improvement. I liked the ambience, service, very cold beer, but the food is lacking compared to other places nearby. But barbecue is like coffee or ice cream or anything else. You may not like what I like and vice versa. My opinion, for take home BBQ go somewhere else.

I like Pop’s. It is like an old roadside diner from years ago. The people are friendly and the food is good, solid home cooking comfort food. They have GREAT Chicken Fried Steak and you really gotta try the Chicken Fried Pork Loin. It is really something else! Bring an appetite! They don’t skimp on the grub. Personally I don’t really care for their ribs. The times I have tried them they have been VERY smoky. I don’t know if they are using Mesquite or what but it really overpowers the ribs in my opinion. They advertise as Texas BBQ, and I lean more towards Memphis or Carolina style myself so maybe it is just me. I do like their BBQ Pork and their sausage is great. It’s just really hard for me to go to Pop’s and not order the Chicken Fried.
Oh! I almost forgot! They have the BEST Brown Beans I have EVER eaten! I can get beans and cornbread and be a happy happy man here!
Don’t forget the Pie either! Good homemade pies!
