Great place. Super cool collection of custom frames you won’t see anywhere else. And did I mention friendly and super helpful? Yea that too! Went in today to see if I could get a print trimmed down to fit in a vintage frame. Done and done… in and out in 5 mins.
Couldn’t be happier or more impressed with their service. Will be back many times.

These guys are some of the best designers in the biz. I frame a LOT. And my collection is pretty diverse, but whether I bring in a delicate African batik textile, a silk-​screened rock poster, or a vintage commercial sign, they have just the right mix of design sensibility and unique moldings and accessories to make my art truly shine. I’ve been honestly stumped with certain pieces until I take them to State of the Art. I would trust them with my most valuable pieces, no doubt.

Great place to get custom framing done. I had a portrait of President Barack Obama framed along with my degrees and several pieces of art four years ago. The pieces are in great shape and I plan on getting more stuff done this year. Really nice customer service too!

State of the Art is a Ferndale treasure. Located a couple blocks west of downtown Ferndale on Nine Mile Road (on the North side of 9) a trip to the gallery is well worth the few extra steps, bicycle peddles, or tire rotations if your goal is to add unique art to your life. Nicole and Veronica are perhaps the two most welcoming and professional people you will ever meet and their eye for the creative is second to none. We have worked with them on numerous occasions for custom framing and decorative pieces and in each case, our expectations were completely exceeded. If you have a photo, painting, print, heirloom, of object of any kind that you would like to display, get yourself to State of the Art!

I have used State of the Art since they first opened up. The service and creativity exceeds the norm. I do a lot of unusual customization for my clients and my needs are always met with the highest creative solutions.
Add to this that State of the Art cuts their own frames (most frame shops send cutting out of their shops) and you are guaranteed a better product.
