Great place to stop by in Ferndale. They have two stores on Main Street. It’s fun to browse through the amazing works on display. The owners actively support many artisans and provide a place for them to display their amazing blacksmith skills. On occasion they also have demonstrations for the public to view and talk with the craftsmen first hand. Check out the picture of the flower stand, it’s amazing what they create. Thank goodness our car is too small to buy that beautiful hand forged rocking chair!

My husband and I walked in the store, open to spending some money. There were no other customers in the store and a lone clerk was near the front door at the counter. She did not look up from her newspaper when we walked in and said nothing. We had to walk right by her so there was no mistaking we were there. As we browsed through the store, her lack of acknowledging our presence continued. As we walked out, turned off by her lack of any customer service, she muttered a «thanks for coming» while her head was still down at the paper. Yes, we were tourists but you lost our tourist money by ignoring us.

Gorgeous if somewhat overpriced. Their second shop(the gallery) is what used to be the leather store. The horseshoes sill reside outside it’s doors! I ended up buying a Ferndale keychain as well as a sterling silver charm but though a few items(coat rack, sculptures) from the gallery caught my eye, not much from this first shop did as a lot of it was slightly nouveau riche, good quality but not really classic. I’d come back but I love their other store so much more.

We always stop at the Blacksmith Shop when visiting Ferndale. Mostly we go just to ogle the masterful ironwork, but most Christmases someone in our family gets a handmade wrought-iron something-or-other. The shop has a wide range of artisan smithwork, from drawer pulls and door knockers to hand-forged kitchen knives to massive chandeliers and bedsteads, as well as jewelry and artisan-made copper and brass doohickeys. A great place to spend an hour window-shopping — or to spend great wads of cash on beautiful stuff you never knew you needed.

I read a little article in the local Humboldt paper called«100 thing to do in Humboldt County» and the shop was mentioned as one of the things to do there. Being someone who loves creativity and the arts, I wanted to stop in especially since it mentioned that the owner still does actual black smith work in the shop itself. The items sold in the shop are of of utmost, premier craftsmanship and it was a delight to see the owner’s workshop. We even had the privilege of meeting the owner who showed us several items from his personal collection which he had acquired from all over the world. The service was great(we bought a couple items) and would definitely go back the next time we’re in Ferndale.
