It’s a Black Bear Diner. Which is to say, it kicks the dilz out of a place like Denny’s. Like if you think that the best Dennys on the planet is a 3 star, then any Black Bear is a 4 or 5 star.
But if you’re a normal human that thinks any Dennys is a 1 or 2 star, that means Black Bear is a 2 or 3 star.

Come here pretty often and the food is really good and the service is always good. The only thing I’ve noticed is that, it does take a while to get your food after you’ve ordered. It’s kinda slow. But other than that its a good place to eat.

Food is good but the wait is criminal lol yeah. the hostess placed us and we waited about 15 mins. For somebody to come and get our drinks then another 15 mins. To get our meal order so if you are in a hurry go somewhere else.

I always love eating at this restaurant the portions are huge. The price is always low for the amount of food we get the service always top notch. I recommend this diner for anybody passing thru that wants an amazing (like) home cooked meal.

Service was good and friendly but couldn’t Overcome the totally bad steak I was served. I ordered medium-​rare and got well to well done and excuses why it wasn’t cooked right… Never did they offer to cook me a new steak. My fault for not listening to the locals. Bad on me!!!

Sorry to do this. This is the second time my friend had an upset stomach after eating at this establishment. She decided to give it another chance since Fernley doesn’t have too much to choose from. Three of us went this last time… all 3 had an upset stomach within an hour. I eat out all the time and have a pretty strong stomach so this is just not a place I would recommend due to the history of something going wrong in that kitchen. We will not be returning.

This diner will get the job done and has good ambiance plus easy parking. However, their hash browns are really terrible — they are barely crispy at all and are mostly an oily floppy mess. The fruit bowl was pretty fresh, and their Oj was delicious! I had some kind of scramble that was a lot of food. Next time I’d get pancakes, fried eggs and fruit again. Always a soft spot for this diner because I always get it after festivals. :)

For some reason my friends hate on Black Bear Diners, but I don’t get it. This place was great — dependably OK food, decent portions, and friendly service. Everything you want from a place to stop on a road trip.
There was free wifi, but it wasn’t working, which was a bit of a disappointment.

Server Sharon has a significant hearing loss or is significantly rude, neither good qualities in a server.
She does not have the words“please” or «thank you» in her vocabulary. Everyone else in this part of Nevada is very friendly.
The men’s room had no toilet paper at all! Aaarrrgh!
Food is good. Ample parking for large vehicles. But Mary and Moe’s Wigwam has all that too, plus good service.

The Best Biscuits and Gravy I ever had, grave them now!
Egg plates are cooked perfect and more than enough to eat!

Driving through Fernley on a cross country trip to NY. We have a Black Bear near us, and it’s pretty good. This one, not so much. First of all, they didn’t have orange juice. Isn’t that a breakfast staple and you don’t have it? I had the corned beef hash, my father had the pancakes. The corned beef as good, not great. I guess the pancakes weren’t cooked all the way thru, they had batter still in the middle. Service was fine, nothing spectacular. It was a pass through, if I ever do this again… I’ll probably look for something else.

The biscuits. That’s why they get 2 stars. They were fluffy and golden and the perfect density. Smothered in butter and grape jam I was in carb heaven! The rest of the food was mediocre and it was breakfast. C’mon people, hashbrowns and eggs, how hard is it? The service was absurdly slow and locals confirmed that this is the norm for Black Bear. Had it not been in a convenient location we would have gone elsewhere.
Side note: This place is a calorie-​fest and they definitely cater to the meat eaters. I’d love to say more but quite frankly it’s just not that notable.

After living nearby we finally tried this place recently. We were very impressed. The staff was courteous and the food was good. It is always a risk when eating at a restaurant attached to a casino but this diner was separated by a lobby and there was zero smoke smell.
The portions are large and the prices are reasonable. Black Bear is our new go-​to place in the area.

Large portions. Good prices. Good service. Little loud. Kid friendly for our 2 year old. Clam chowder was awesome and so was the pot roast. My husband got the volcano and had enough left overs for the next day’s breakfast.

Been here and ordered a small bowl of chili cheese soup and tuna sandwich with fries.
The chili soup was just so so, so does with the tuna sandwich. Nothing special about it, except the decoration is cute with some bear statues :)

Two words: food poisoning
I’ve been hearing people rave about Black Bear Diner in general and how they supposedly have really good food. So… since there’s limited option in this town, we decided to give it a try.
I ordered the country fried steak breakfast. It came with hasbrowns, eggs, and biscuits. The steak was okay, nothing special. Hubby ordered the same thing except the 10oz one instead of 5oz.
I immediately felt sick after finishing my food. He got sick right when we got home. Yup, pretty sure it’s not just coincedence.
Service sucked. It was around 8pm and they close at 10pm. Some servers were already cleaning up so they were only seating people on one side of the restaurant. That was fine. However, the servers were fighting over who was doing what. Like one server was straight up arguing with the manager and raising her voice. Just wow.
