Spent the night in the Mission Suite which was very nice. Not my first time in this room and we love it. Very rustic with the claw foot tub, 2 bathrooms large private balcony. Such a nice place. The restaurant has a new chief and a new menu. I thought this was the best restaurant in the mountains before. It’s even better. Our food was amazing. I had the Angus Filet which was cooked just right. As good as any I have ever had. My wife had the Butternut squash pasta. I tried it and it was probably one of the best pasta dishes I have ever tasted. I was also disappointed to learn that they no longer make the waffles at there morning breakfast. They still have a picture of them on the web site. My only complaint was the service was a little slow with the host. I understand that they were busy which you would expect a Saturday night to be. Knowing that you would think they would have enough help. Still not a 5 star experience because of this.

Disregard all reviews prior to June 2016. The Narrow Gauge Inn and Restaurant has a new owner, new chef and new management company. Everything but the beautiful setting has changed. The restaurant is closed on Monday and Tuesday. The new menu is limited and expensive. They offer only 7 entrees, served a al carte. The presentation was nice, but the food quality was disappointing. For an additional $ 9 you can choose a Caesar Salad or Mushroom Soup. That’s it. One salad choice, one soup. They no longer offer a Sunset Menu. If you knew and loved the Narrow Gauge, you will be hugely disappointed. If you’re traveling to Yosemite, keep driving. The Narrow Gauge Inn Restaurant is not worth it.

We booked a room theough for three nights. The website advised free cancellation prior to the date in September. Things changed shortly after we made the reservation and we cancelled. We got a refund minus a $ 10.00 cancellation fee. If you advise that there is free cancellation then you should honor that. I will consider other lodging when we make the trip. Actually I would rate this no stars but the application will not allow it

If my husband and I weren’t so exhausted from our trip we wouldn’t have stayed here. Apparently nothing works/open. the bar, pool, and diner hall is all closed. The room smelled like urine and there is no refrigerator. The only thing good about this place was the«balcony» area that is attached to the room. And the room was WAY over priced she gave us a «deal» $ 207 before tax for a king bed which is normally what they charge for a queen.

We loved this restaurant! We ordered salads and the fish special and steak for dinner, and everything was absolutely delicious. Our server, I believe his name was Don, was wonderful. Helpful and professional, while being friendly and down-to-earth. The dining room is rustic is a great way, and we enjoyed the whole evening. We would recommend to anyone near Fish Camp looking for what we thought was the best dinner in the area.

This is the inn we stayed at while visiting Yosemite national park which I must say was fantastic until you had to use the restroom. At first my hopes were a little lowered because it was really small and wooden. I know we were in the middle of the mountain but I had no idea where we were staying. I feel like if a major hotel chain builds a hotel near there they could make a lot of money. The lobby was both the lobby and a small gift shop. With its size I was surprised to see a coffee stand for guest. The receptionist was really nice and informative. We were staying on the 2nd building that was L shaped and kind of hard to get to. I was also surprised to know that they had 3 internet hotspots but like usual, it wasn’t good enough to do things like video stream. The room was nice but pretty small in size. They had a small TV, two beds, and a wired restroom with a desk in it. They don’t have a air conditioning unit but they do have a heater that gets pretty hot so watch out. The desk was pretty obsolete because it was IN a bathroom. They also had some candies on the bedside table which was a plus even if they weren’t that good. They had complimentary breakfast in their designated restaurant which was nice. The restaurant had a setting that reminds me of Viking halls(elder scrolls? Skyrim?) the breakfast buffet was served on a L shaped table. They had really good sausages and orange juice. What they lacked were waffles. When I eat hotel breakfast buffets I want waffles most likely. They had their bread on the other side of the room for some reason which I thought was a little weird but whatever. They had coffee, teas, and hot chocolate(my favorite). The cups for their hot drinks were funny in which they had these decorated glass mug that match the building. I was just talking about their waffles but overall their selection was pretty low but besides that what they had was good. They had a dinner that sounded good but was really expensive. I didn’t get to try the dinner. The rate was 185 plus tax for one night but even though that sounds expensive it’s still one of the better deals around the Yosemite area.

What a fun place, very rustic and vintage! Location is awesome. People very nice. Make sure to check when the season starts! Restaurant not open unless in season. Parking is a bit of an issue. Well worth the price and again the location is great.

I nice little gem, simple rustic, place. Our room was next to a running steam. Which was a very pleasant, restful sleep, on a king sided bed. The night lady(Christian) a most helpful woman, helped us. She knows the area very well, helped us out(we were lost). Breakfast(Mary & Scott) are most delightful pair. Serving a simple but hearty breakfast, very attentive to details(very nice) and a bird feeder with steliar Jay’s all around. And in front a 1952(fully functional) fire truck, ideal for a photo op. and not to mention next door a steam engine rail road excursion.

Great food! The dining room area is super rustic and they have awesome waffles! The rooms are very comfortable accept the walls are super thin so you can hear people walking around and talking. Also the beds are quite hard, overall this Inn and restuant is worth 4 stars.

You’re in the woods. You’ve got a deck with Adirondack chairs. The rates are reasonable. Front desk staff is knowledgeable. It’s, you know, charming. Bed and furnishings are very comfortable. There are an amazing number of far worse places than this in Yosemite world.

Couldn’t have asked for a better experience. My boyfriend and I were looking for a rustic experience in the woods. Narrow Gauge is just that. Close to Yosemite and nestled away from touristy stays like Tenaya Lodge. Rooms are simple but clean with balconies. HOT showers. Complimentary breakfast that is actually tasty. Wonderful service. We definitely picked the perfect spot for our trip to Yosemite! Would definitely recommend and come back.

If you’re looking for peace and quiet, you will hate this place. The walls here are PAPERTHIN, so each night you stay you will be hearing your neighbor’s every footstep, every yawn, every conversation, as clear and loud as if it were in the same room as you. I wasn’t able to get any reading or writing done, and at one point I had to smack the wall to get the couple next door to keep their loud sex down. I feel like I’m back in my freshman-year dorm. If you don’t care about quietness or solitude, though, I can say the service and room quality are very very good, and the complimentary breakfast is delicious and cooked to order.

A beautiful setting for our one night stay. The best part of all was sitting on the deck, drinking coffee, looking at a great view. Also, the breakfast!!! Amazing!!! And the best service by Scott!!! Thank you.

Absolutely a disappointment. The king room that I saw online booked large and spacious with the four post bed and beautiful. The room I walked into was smaller than a traditional hotel room. However, the bathroom was the biggest disappointment. Old and outdated with old ugly tile and gold trimmings tight spaces and uncomfortable. The smell was that of a high school bathroom with cheap cleaner that made me almost puke. The television is the size of the computer screen. The bed was terribly uncomfortable and I woke up about 14 times during the night. This was the first time we would be away without our infant daughter overnight. We should’ve just stayed home.

Narrow Gauge Inn is everything you would expect and want from a place in this area. It’s obviously been there for many years but its been well taken care of. Our room was cute, cozy, and quiet. We enjoyed dinner our night there and breakfast the next morning. Both were very pleasant experiences. The food was delicious and the dining environment is beautiful. What I enjoyed most about Narrow Gauge were the people there. Everyone from the front desk, to the servers and staff at the restaurant were always smiling and had something nice to say. I’ve never been to an establishment where the kindness of the employees was so consistent. This alone earned them the 5 stars I am giving them. I can’t wait to come back to visit.

Okay — let me get this right out front; I felt like I was in Catholic high school with Sister Christine… she was somewhat cold and aloof with more attitude and rules than I have EVER experienced at any hotel in my life. I HAD to provide my license plate number in addition to make, year, color and model; I stopped memorizing plate numbers at my 3rd car! Then there was the formality of the check in… Not good enough that I gave last name upon entry; No, she didn’t want it until I could present myself at the counter– eyeball to eyeball. Don’t even get me started on the steps involved in reserving their tiny fiberglass hot tub! Good room(although overpriced) and wonderful restaurant!!!

This is such a good lodge an hour from Yosemite. We found it last minute because we had not looked for accommodation in advance like normal people do. The king room is so beautiful, specially if it overlooks the little forest area. Ask for that balcony view. Unfortunately the kings with that view were occupied. My family stayed in a double room with two queen beds. Although a bit smaller, we got the amazing balcony view. Breakfast is included. And may I add that it’s the kind of breakfast you get at a nice restaurant. It’s mostly buffet-style. The only thing you order are the waffles which they make fresh AND which are to die for. Seriously the best waffles I have ever had. I forgot the server’s name but both the lady and the guy who makes waffles are so incredibly nice. The only thing, for which I would have taken a star but won’t are the double beds. They are SQUEAKY! A little shift and the mattress would groan. Other than that no complaints at all. We had a little issue with our bill upon checkout and the manager took care of it. Definitely would consider staying here if I need to stay outside Yosemite Valley.

We stayed here for two nights for New Years. The prices are a bit more affordable this time of year and we live only an hour away, so why not. First impressions: Very rustic andcharmingly themed, and set in a lovely spot. The mountains are behind and the forest is very pretty. The place is bigger than it looks as there is another row of rooms down and behind the main strip. It’s located very near Oakhurst, CA and the southern entrance to Yosemite so runs for food are not a hassle. It is also two miles south of Tenaya Lodge, where there are several restaurants. We had a queen bed room with a forest view(there are also mountain view rooms). It’s a very simple affair, just the bed, some tables and a dresser with mirror. The room is not the usual long rectangular size you see in most hotels. It’s a square bedroom. The bathroom is spacious enough although the shower is rather small in my opinion. You certainly can’t fit two adults in there comfortably, and no tub. The furnishings are outdated but not ugly. It’s homey. If one’s grandmother lived in a rustic mountain town, that’s how it’s decorated. Lots of wood and floral patterns. Each room has a deck where smokers can light up and enjoy the view. It comes with two chairs, and ash try and little table. There are no refrigerators in the rooms which is a bummer, but whatever. It’s was cold enough outside for us to store our alcohol on the deck to chill. The TV had limited channels and was not HD. Whatever. They are fairly pet friendly. There is a flat one time 25 dollar fee for your pooch, but you get a cute little dog bowl and some treats too. Dogs are not allowed in the restaurant. Speaking of the restaurant, it is open seasonally, which is confusing because their website says its open daily. We were put out that it wasn’t open because we heard good things about the food. Free breakfast is included. They provide hard boiled eggs, sausage, country potatoes, cereal, toast, bagels, oatmeal, and the usual available drinks. They also offered waffles! You simply have to ask and they’ll cook and bring it out to you with fruit and toppings according to your wish. They were very nice and filling. I feel the breakfast could have been amped up a bit more considering the lack of restaurant onsite and they only offered hard boiled eggs, not scrambled or anything else. There appears to me(correct me if I’m wrong) to be one parking space afforded to each room so if you have multiple vehicles I’m not sure how that will work. When the parking lot is full on the bottom level(behind the main strip by the office) then if you’re parked facing North for that side of the strip then backing out is an interesting thing. It was manageable and even kind of funny, so no big deal. Now, the first night there was a huge power outage in the area, I’m guessing to the windiness at the time. Around 8PM the power went out, which sucked because no one’s in the park at the time because its already dark. We had already eaten dinner so we were just relaxing in the room. The power did not come up again till about 5PM the next day. The staff did all they could to keep us happy. They opened the restaurant and set up board games and beverages as the main building and restaurant operated on a secondary system or generator. They gave us glow lights and small little penlight flashlights which were okay. It was still annoying and I wondered why they did not have back up generators for the majority of the rooms. An issue my fiancé had was the heating system. When the power went out, the heating stayed on because it was a furnace heater(you could sort of see the fire going behind the bottom grate). The heater heated the room unevenly and sometimes it became too hot and then it got too cold. He assumed it was because there was no fan to evenly distribute the heat. I was very glad to have the heater at all because it was quite cold at night. The entirety of the staff were just awesome. They were friendly, polite and genuinely interested in you, the customer. Marlo was a doll and gave us a future free night’s stay(of course it would have to be a comparable price) due to the hassle of the power going out. We will be coming back.
