WE are from San Diego and were fortunate to get Packer season tickets a few years ago. We make trips to Green Bay at least twice a year to go to the games. We have visited the Cherry Hut numerous times prior to this visit and usually spend a good amount because we like the product and the people there were very nice. This recent visit on 9⁄29 will probably be our last. We walked into the store and saw that it was about 1⁄3 of the size it was. We asked the person behind the counter what happened, and she said the owner made the changes. Along with the changes of making the store smaller, the selection was smaller and we found the prices to be significantly higher. I am a big fan of the cherry butter… we found that the last jar we had at home had a price tag of $ 5.99. The jars we purchased this trip were priced at $ 8.49!!! A 30% increase… really! With the smaller store, smaller selection and the 30% increase in prices I won“t be shopping at the cherry hut again! and that makes me sad.

Looking for fresh cherries to take home after a trip to Door County I stopped at this place whose sign boasted Fresh Cherries, Sweet Cherries. Once inside you could have your pick of all things cherry. Searching, I could not find any freshly picked cherries so asked the guy behind the counter if they had any fresh, sweet cherries that day. He pointed to a basket of small cherries behind me on a shelf with a plastic pint container next to it. I said I’d like a quart and he replied«Knock yourself out.» Turning back to the display I could see no container to fill and requested one. He remained behind the counter, stating that they would put them in a bag for me. I said«great, thank you» yet he still did not move. I asked«Am I missing something here?» He said«DUH», then came around the counter picked up the pint took it back behind the counter and dumped them into a plastic bag. He could have told me to hand him the cherries if that’s what I was supposed to do. The only sign by the basket was one indicating prices. If that is how they treat their customers I wonder how they stay in business. I paid for my cherries and left. The cherries were not fresh and they were most definitely not sweet meant for eating out of the bag. They were tart cherries you would use to make a pie. The rude person who sold them to me must have been a new employee as he wasn’t very knowledgeable or friendly, not worried about having any repeat business. I would definitely not recommend stopping there for anything. What a disappointing end to an otherwise beautiful trip to Door County.

We recently purchased cherry pies from the cherry hut and the wood orchard market. The pie from the Cherry Hut was outstanding; the crust was flaky and the cherries were slightly tart and plentiful. In comparison the pie from the wood orchard was bland at best-the crust was tough and the cherries were mushy. And the best part? The pies at the Cherry Hut are $ 9.99 while the Wood Orchard are $ 12.95. Cherry Hut pies are made on site while the Wood Orchard pies were made by a third party. On our last day in Door County my family purchased 3 pies for the road. Keep up the great pie making at the Cherry Hut!

After the shock that we had missed picking up a cherry pie at Sweetie Pie by a mere 5 minutes, we were excited to find the doors of the Cherry Hut still open. Cherry Pie could still be ours before leaving Door County! But, alas. our hopes were quickly dashed as all the pies were also gone at the Cherry Hut. Double bummer: all the samples were also gone! Word to the wise: arrive before 5p if you want to sample anything here before buying. Since we couldn’t take home a cherry pie, we satisfied our sweet tooth with some fresh fudge. The Mint and Dark Chocolate with Sea Salt were both delicious. The Cherry Hut also has a nice selection of balsamic vinegars, olive oils, fudge, wines, and of course LOTS of food items made with cherries. They have a wide selection of jams, salsas, and BBQ sauces all made with cherries from local Door County companies. They even have freezers full of cherries if you want to take some home to make your own cherry pie. Cherry Hut generously allows customers to also sample a wide variety of local wines and cherry-infused spirits. I love sweet wines — Riesling, Gewürztraminer, ice wines — you name it! But I found all the Door County wines to be too sweet and lacking in depth for my taste. Check ‘em out and let me know what YOU think! Overall, Cherry Hut offers some great items, but I found the selection, quality, and service to be better at Wood Orchard Market.

This place is SO cute. Lots of local wines to sample. I love places like this, but the space is really large for an inventory that’s not very big. I don’t even really remember them having fresh cherries to buy. But very cute store.

This was our last stop on the way out of Door County. We were able to pick up some nice treats including wine and salsas. It was convenient one stop shopping. Not the most exciting place, but still, worth a look see if you are in the area.

The first night we drove into the area, my in-laws stopped here to browse. A real tourist trap, but hey, we were tourist. Cherry this and that and what do we have here? A whole homemade cherry pie for $ 10? My father-in-law bought one and bought a piece of fudge. Skip the fudge like the plague. Yuck. The cherry pie, however, was a win. Coming from a girl who’ll pass pie for a cake ball any day, I found the pie to be awesome. In fact, before our Monday departure, we stopped in for a home pie and were sad to see none. Booo! The girl at the counter suggested Sweetie Pies, where for $ 19, you too, can get a pie. Umm… maybe next time.

This is much more old fashioned roadside store that sells cherry products & wine. I don’t believe they actually made the wine, but they had many varieties. The cherry products were common place, but they also carried balsamic vinegar & olive oil by Fat Louie. We were able to purchase the sample bottles, which is perfect for sampling.
