If you’re thinking about going up in a hot air balloon, don’t hesitate to fly with Tony from Midwest Balloon Rides. He is extremely competent and professional, and it is an absolute blast! We did a sunset ride this week. We met at 3:30, drove together to the launch site(which varies depending on the wind direction), and watched the fascinating process of the balloon being set up. Before long, we were able to climb in to the basket, had a few pictures taken, and off we went. It was much smoother than I’d imagined it would be — you almost don’t feel like you’re moving. It’s quite an experience to see Indianapolis from the air, and it was fun waving to everyone who came outside to watch us pass overhead. We gathered quite a crowd of interested neighborhood kids as we landed, too. We had a champagne toast(they offer a non-alcoholic cider option as well) with pilot Tony and the crew once we were back on the ground … and there were a couple of other fun surprises I won’t spoil — you’ll just have to see for yourself. Midwest Balloon Rides offers tethered rides as well, if you’re interested but not quite ready for the full deal. I found out about one recently on their Facebook page.

I took my training for hot air ballooning with Midwest. Great local company, easy to work with, safe, and a lot of fun.
