This place is an institution in Florence. Great lunch food at really low prices. The chili dogs, chicken salad sandwiches, and grilled cheese are all really good. They have really good milk shakes.

One of my favorite spots to eat in the Shoals. Although my order is boring and simple it still tastes unique and is something crave-able! Their grilled cheese tastes like your grandmothers and the prices are very inexpensive. It’s a must if you are from or are visiting Florence.

Ok so this is one of my wife’s favorite spots. She loves it. I think it’s real good. Milkshake I had was great. My son enjoyed his ice cream and both me and the wife enjoyed the chicken salad sandwiches that we ordered to go. My cousin got the chili and was not impressed. They let him have it for free. But anyone who reads this review would think why would you order chili. Overall you can’t beat the price and the nostalgia. It is a place that must be on your list of you go to Florence.

Visiting from out of town. Nice little place. I had the chicken salad & coke float. Very affordable & hit the spot. Note that this place is busy! You can do a carry out too. But worth it to see a little nostalgia.

One of my all time favorite spots in Florence. I always end up eating way to many chili dogs and ice cream. I also love their malts. They remind me of how I used to drink them back in the 90’s… Lol The chicken salad sandwich is good also! Stop in and you’ll be hooked!

Cool little place with a 50s throwback feel. I’ve never eaten food from here but the ice cream and milkshakes are great.

Old school ice cream and soda shop. You can find my favorite chicken salad sandwich here, but love their peanut butter and banana sandwiches too. If you like orange pineapple ice cream, they have some of the best, but they have a lot of other choices. It gets crowded at lunchtime, but service is pretty quick. These guys know what they are doing. Food quality is consistent. Don’t miss it if you are in Florence.

What’s not to love about Trowbridge’s? When I walk in there, I feel as I have taken a lil step back in time, perhaps in the days of bobby socks and poodle skirts, and it feels so comfy and cozy. Love the old pictures on the walls! The only problem I have is deciding on which of my favorite menu items to order. The pimento cheese takes me back in time to reminisce about my Nana’s homemade recipe and it is the closest one I have tried… YUMMY! The ice cream, malts… Well, I have eaten everything there and not once have I been disappointed. The prices are very fair and they do draw a crowd at times. The food is good so I understand why.

Still in business since 1918 and still owned by the Trowbridges. What a gem of Americana. Hop onto a bar stool and eat your treat like a kiddo from back in the ‘day. There’s something about an ice cream shoppe that just takes you decades back! I ordered a sundae and had to eat it quick before the hot fudge melted my ice cream. Next time I come in I need to try the Orange Pineapple flavor. But all the flavors really tasted great! The price points are terrific. Out the door for under $ 2 – 4. I mean, these days it’ll cost you close to $ 7-$ 10 for some over-the-top frozen yogurt place. Come here and enjoy a fun treat!

Ice cream is wonderful anytime of year but especially on a warm spring day! Trowbridge’s has a lot of yummy flavors from which to choose! I had birthday cake and it was great! Tasted just like a moist white cake with sprinkles. My hubby had the«famous» orange-pineapple. He liked it and a lot of people do too. I’m not big on dreamsicles or orange push-ups so… But if you are give it a try. Ice cream was my lunch on Saturday and it was sooooo worth it! We’ll be going to Trowbridge’s the next time we are in Florence.

One of my favorite places to stop in the shoals. My order typically consist of a hotdog with chili, bag of chips, and coke from a glass bottle. If the kids are with me we usually top it off with homemade milkshakes.(My wife loves the chicken salad sandwich). Getting a table around lunch can be a headache, but this place is worth the wait.

Fun atmosphere and great service! We set at the bar and ate our ice cream cones. I ordered strawberry and it was delicious! The come was a little dry, but I didn’t go there for the cone!

Very neat restaurant with a retro feel to it. If you’re looking for amazing food this wouldn’t be your first choice, but if you’re looking to have a throwback lunch that is mediocre, cheap, and takes you back to the 50’s come here. The sandwiches are very basic and they are known for chili hot dogs. The best part about this place is their ice cream! This place is usually always packed around lunch due to the history that runs deep here

Trowbridge’s is certainly more of an ice cream shop that serves food rather than a restaurant that serves ice cream. Excellent milkshakes and reasonable prices. The chicken salad is worth a try. The old-time atmosphere does as much for this rating as anything.

My husband took me here and I immediately fell in love. It’s the cutest little ice cream parlor with sandwiches served. And man, are they quick! No more than 1 minute(literally) after ordering, our drinks and sandwiches were out. Chicken and ham salad were both very tasty. I prefer a little more texture in my chicken salad, but I still enjoyed it immensely. If you’re passing through Florence, this is an absolute must see!

This place is extremely overrated. I stopped here with my kids because of the great Unilocal reviews. The sandwiches are of the quality I had growing up in elementary school, but worse. I had the peanut butter and banana sandwich. First, why in the world would you assume people want mayonnaise on their pb sandwich? That should be an option, not the norm. Second, I asked to not have mayo on my pb sandwich, but they put it on there anyway. They flopped up a new sandwich for me though. I give it two stars for the ice cream. It was all pretty solid.

An amazing sandwich and ice cream shop that is just around the corner from its 100th birthday. Homemade everything and everything was delicious.

An absolutely adorable turquoise chrome diner that exists on a beautiful downtown main street in Florence, Alabama. Everything about this soda shop is trapped in time: the prices, the signs, the waitresses, even the tiny sandwiches themselves remind one how supersized our food has become. Grilled cheese, tuna salad, chicken salad… they taste exactly like little old lady tea sandwiches. You might need three to fill up, or a bowl full of chili. But save room for ice cream. Like, the best housemade ice cream I’ve had in awhile. Their orange sherbert is world-famous(Garden & Gun magazine loves it) but the salted caramel really knocked my socks off. I could eat this ice cream until I contracted diabetes and fell off the diner stool. Truly worth a stop to experience small-town southern charm.
