Ordered shrimp and bro. with garlic sauce and shrimp tempura & tuna roll. The service was eeh, but the problem was that the shrimp and neocon was way way too sweet it was the sauce was honey, on the bright side the roll were pretty good.

South Ocean is one of my favorite Asian restaurants in the area. They have consistently good sushi when dining in. The fish and rice are always fresh. The food costs are definitely acceptable, not overpriced as some sushi restaurants can be. We have ordered take out Chinese food, eat in Sushi & Chinese food, and have never had a bad experience. The service is great and the staff are all very friendly. I put them on par with Umai in Fairmount and other similar spots for sushi. If you’re in the area & craving some good sushi at an affordable price, stop in and enjoy!

They made a mistake on my take out order and when I drove back to get it fixed, they told me how I was wrong when I placed the order… the actual menu description was wrong, or at least they didn’t make it the way the menu described… no biggie. thanks. Rice was overcooked, a bit mushy. just ok, nothing to get excited about. just wish they didn’t get so defensive when I brought back my incorrect order.

Quite poor even for cheap Chinese. They can’t even make fried rice that isn’t bad. The sushi counter also has a really strong fish odor which it never should.

I’ve been searching for a great sushi place in the area and this place is it! Great sushi for reasonable price and it’s BYOB! It’s a nice place if you want to grab a quick meal and not have to worry about over crowding or loud guests. The staff are nice and friendly, and the sushi is freshly made to order. You can even sit at the small bar and watch it be made. Overall I’m very pleased and will be back to my new found sushi place

My first time at South Ocean was a week ago. I’ve been back twice since then. First, their customer service is top notch. They are so friendly and welcoming. I felt at home… and I was taking mine to go. Their food is like a cloud wrapped in a rainbow dipped in angel tears. I can’t even begin to say thank you enough to everyone at South Ocean. I prefer sushi rolls and did their lunch special today. The spicy salmon was a great balance of flavors. Miso soup wasn’t too salty and the California roll was very fresh! I highly recommend South Ocean to anyone interested in delicious sushi and Asian cuisine.

Just discovered this gem, tucked away in the Acme shopping center. The staff aims to please, giving me tea while I waited for my Takeout(a mere 10 minutes). This is the BEST Chinese restaurant I have been to in a long time. The space is small but beautifully appointed, one of those feel good places to sit and sup. We enjoyed out Takeout at home this time. But I plan to visit in future. The Wonton Soup is a fantastic broth I cannot get enough of. The noodles are supple vs rubbery. The flavor is perfect. The Chicken Corn Soup was like an Egg Drop with sweet corn and bits of chicken. Where’s the Chicken? The Shrimp with Mixed Veggies — I always ask for the sauce separate. Wonderful brown sauce. Shrimp were large. I can’t get over the clean, light taste to all the food and the beautiful presentation of it. Highly recommended!

This place just re-opened after strip mall renovation Looks real nice inside, good job. however it was an odd choice to go with red and white checkered table cloth like the stereotypical Italian-American cliché. Service was good,(was a Tue eve at 6) 5 other tables eating We had the Tom Yum Goong Thai soup: Very good, I suspect a tad above many folks preferred heat/spice limit. I liked it. Good blend of flavor, not overly acidic as so many can be. Only negative comment is if you list«prawns» as an ingredient, dont use the some of the smallest shrimp available. Prawns imply big shrimp(in this country) Won Ton soup was very nicely done. Basic Pork Goyza(fried dumpling): was also good. These seemed to be steamed first then lightly fried. Green salad with ginger dressing Very basic, but good The SO Special Duck: (crispy duck, jumbo shrimp, chicken, pork, beef, Peking sauce) I’m a fan! Great flavor. Duck a little fatty(as often is the case) Jumbo Shrimp were medium large, but tasty. Very balanced. Sweet and sour chicken: Good, very basic(sorry to me this is the chicken mc’nuggets of the asian world) We will return to try more of the Thai and Japanese offerings FYI: They do not offer the combo dinners listed on take out for dining in

Really inconsistent. Sometimes the food is pretty good. Sometimes it’s terrible. The service is consistently bad. They seem like decent people, but without any experience running a restaurant or providing good service. And no air-conditioning! What’s up with that. I hope they get their act together.

This is my go-to chinese and sushi take-out place in the area. I’ve tried a handful of other places nearby and this one is the best I’ve found. Their Chinese and Thai food isn’t too greasy and their sushi is pretty good. Everyone is friendly too. I’ve never eaten in, it’s usually very quiet in there with only a few tables occupied. It is nicer in there than most Chinese restaurants though. I think they do most of their business in take-out. I just wish they delivered!

I am a visitor of this area and not a resident. The sushi was good, just not the best I have ever had, which is why they get 3 stars. The service was great and next time I will just stick to the Chinese food which was pretty good!

Yet one restaurant find that’s in a strip mall — I love what that happens! Specializing in both Chinese and Japanese cuisine, there’s much to choose from! There was one item on the menu that got me intrigued to the fullest — edamame dumplings. Because this meal was planned ahead of time, I decided to look up edamame dumplings, and it’s not THAT farfetched, but it wasn’t like I thought it was. Why, though, had I never seen it on any menu thus far in my life? MUST. TRY. NOW. I must say that, well, it was different. A surprisingly good different. But they didn’t trump the GIGANTIC tofu teriyaki bento box dinner: P Not that I expected them to… but it would have sealed the deal on how I generally felt about South Ocean. I would like to come back and try the Chinese food and(more) sushi, though ;-)

Best sushi ever(although I am vegetarian and do not eat any fish. But vegetarian sushi is still called sushi, right?) I always get the avocado roll, sweet potato roll, and inari(bean curd) roll. And it fills me up everytime! I’m still trying to figure out how they cut the oranges the way they do at the end!

South Ocean’s website is most definitely deceiving. It gives the impression of a lush Asian Experience. Reality is much different than the Matrix… I would call this dive sushi in a Chandler-esque manner. This place is not for the faint of heart… or even the local food inspector. While the Lexis Roll really is a fantastic creation(tuna, salmon, avocado, spicy sauce and an exotic presentation, the rest of the really sushi is just passable… if you can’t get sushi anywhere else. The staff is courteous. The clientele is amusing. Don’t come for the sushi. I’m still on the hunt for good sushi in suburban Philly. I may have to break down and actually head into the City. More to follow…
