Several years ago, we took our young (2 yr. old) daughter here because she had fallen and injured her tooth (it had been pushed back UP into her gum). Dr. Duffy said the tooth had to be REMOVED IMMEDIATELY and that DD needed a fake tooth and some sort of a ‘bridge’ thing (not sure what it’s called but it was a permanent contraption to be placed in the roof of her mouth!!). The price quote for this was thousandS of dollars. It was outrageous!
The dentist also told us that NO parent could be with our daughter, but we could watch from a small window in the door! Really? This is a 2-​year old child who had been to the dentist probably 3 or 4 times prior.
The office caters to mainstream families so they have TVs and video games to «entertain» those kids who can’t possibly sit still on their own. It’s a shame, really. We were the only ones in the waiting room and when we turned off the TV, one of the nurses or office staff came running out to turn it back on. I prefer to teach my kids that there are times when they will truly have to sit still; that they do not have to be in front of a screen to sit still.
We took our daughter to a regular (not ‘pediatric’) dentist who di not pull the tooth, did not charge us thousands of dollars, and understood that a child’s (and parent’s) comfort was paramount to profit!
The tooth was saved. Our daughter loves going to the dentist.
