Flowood Public Library

Okay, so even I have to admit that for Mississippi this is probably the nicest public library I have seen after the Mississippi Library Consortium, which is beautiful but there aren’t many tables for studying and it can be too loud (no study rooms).

I love this library. It can get a bit talky with the younger folks around but the librarians handle it quickly most of the time. Very nice facilities, great selections, but best of all are the people who work there. They are the nicest and most helpful people around. I am working on my master’s and they never seem to run out of articles and ideas to keep me going.

I know libraries aren’t really the *thing* nowadays thanks to eBooks and the world wide web, but as far as libraries go, this is one of the best I’ve seen.
When visiting MS, I’m constantly on the search for places with free WiFi so I can go sit with my MacBook for a few hours. This is one of my favourite places to do just that.
They have lots of tables and chairs set up, so there’s never a problem finding a cozy place to plop down for a while.
This library is fairly new and it’s a really gorgeous building, both inside and out. Everything is so well organized and it’s kept spotless.
Of course you’ll find books here (duh, it’s a library), but they also have tons of CDs, DVDs, and video games (for the Playstation, XBox, and DS) that you can check out. Thanks to the great people of the Rankin County Library System, they let me use my parents’ address to get a library card. This allows me to check things out (I like to listen to the CDs on my laptop sometimes while I’m here and I need a library card to get the CDs) and it also allows me to use one of their many computers and the internet if I happen to not feel like bring my Mac with me.
The entire staff are very friendly and helpful. They will go out of their way to help you find what you’re looking for.

Great library with friendly, helpful staff. I probably come here too much as one librarian pulls my reserved books out when he sees me coming and greets me by name. I also enjoy using it to study for my actuarial exams. Fast WiFi, although ALL streaming is blocked. This means no viewing online lectures. My one complaint is the noise level sometimes. People seem to forget libraries are quiet zones and I’ve not noticed any librarians correcting this when it happens.
