«All serious daring starts from within.» — Eudora Welty I have lived long enough to see how lines can become circles, coming around again to the beginning, before dancing away again into another line, another tangled loop, another arc, another tumble. In many ways my beginning began here. The memories are black and white, more memories of the photographs I took for the yearbook than of the events as I lived them. Observation usually trumped participation then. But living in nostalgia is a kind of prolonged death, climbing into the amber to be pressed against a mosquito, a spider, a speck of dust. So today I’m just visiting. Prep gave me a top-notch education and a colorful variety of formative experiences. I worked hard. Too hard, really(lesson of balance learned later). It paid off though. Full ride to a great school leads to grad school leads to high-paying professional job and home ownership. Gold star. Thanks, Prep. Now what? Line.
