Love this restaurant! We have quarterly meeting and holiday parties here and the food is always delicious! We are treated like family. My staff would not go anywhere else!

Good fried chicken and consistent food. The Roast Beef option, I do not recommend, but everything else is very good to excellent. A plus, no meals tax! That pays your tip if from Roanoke, Cburg or Bburg.

What a beautiful and quaint find. We were thoroughly pleased. The owners have done a beautiful job updating and renovating a 1927 lodge. We had a king suite 2 nd floor. It was clean and comfortable. Nice quiet evening! Hope to return soon

First time here yesterday, moved here from Austin and I could say I have never experienced something like it, it was a simple little house, not particularly fine dining maybe back in its day it was but I have no complaints about that, love the«family style» dining they offer, it allows you to get a second serving of everything you like so it gives you that at home feeling! You get a little bit of every side they have on the menu and as much as meat as you like, you get four choices, ham, pulled pork, fried chicken and roast beef. Their fried chicken is yummy! It’s not greasy for it being fried, you bite into it a the first thing you’ll taste is the chicken not a blob of grease that was trapped in it, now I also picked The Roast beef and it was a little on the salty side, loved all the sides! My fav were the potatoes. You also get green bean, cabbage, pinto beans, chicken dumplings and biscuits, the peach cobbler was so freaking good!!! Although I wish it would’ve come separate from the ice cream they put on top, I like to taste crust of the pie and how crispy it is. But otherwise very good. The service was good. She attended to us everytime we needed something and never let us sit there with empty stomachs the whole time! I will def come back, but there hours are a bit weird so good luck catching the place open! But it is worth it!

«Where did Cat go?» Alec asked me several times. Our server loved to drop in, ask how we were, and practically disappear before we could answer. That aside, the food was plentiful and tasty. I could have eaten a bowl of those green beans and called it a day. But the chicken and roast beef kept distracting me. Families would find a little something for everyone. Definitely recommend

Could use a good cleaning, spider webs and ceiling fans covered in dust. They have family style food. Food was good but could have been warmer. Peach cobbler was yummy!

First, as a self-proclaimed ‘foodie,’ I must warn you this is not high-end dining — but if you’re in this area you’re there for the beauty and unique good-old-fashioned Southern feel to the area. I went here after researching restaurants around Primland in Meadows of Dan, VA. It was perfect for what we wanted!!! Casual, easy to get to, friendly and had great food! My husband and I rented a cabin and spent a long Labor Day weekend in the area. There is a place in Boone, NC that has a similar setup: old/historic, simple, friendly and unlimited Southern food served family-style. That place is called the Daniel Boone Inn, and we have found the food quality at the place in Boone has fallen a great deal. With that as our benchmark, we optimistically came here for a late lunch on a Sunday. We fully expected to have to wait — especially expecting to hit the church-crowd — but were promptly seated. This place is so very unassuming and you can tell it’s a loved local gem! There is indeed an Inn next door, and the building is simple and quite old. However, the inside was spacious with old-timey knicknacks and old pictures on the walls complimenting the post and beam exposed interior. You have the option of ordering plates/entrees or sides, but we decided to go all out. For about $ 15 per person, my husband and I ordered the 2-meats family-style meal choosing fried chicken and country ham for our meats. All the sides were included. First, I must tell you, my husband likes fried chicken — I typically do not. BUT, I honestly loved their fried chicken. I even ate the crispy skin(which I’d normally peel off). It looked pretty simple and thinly breaded, but what a great surprise! Crispy, well seasoned and juicy on the inside. The country ham was fairly lean(which I liked) and was very thinly sliced and plentiful. You can get as many extras as you want when you order this way, we asked for some extra chicken wings — yum! The slaw was great(thickly cut cabbage, sweet & savory), as were the beans, potatoes, gravy, cabbage, biscuits and other sides. Our meals included a drink(he got the sweet tea, which I felt was steeped a little too long and not sweet enough — I got a diet soda), as well as a desert. The desert choices were strawberry or chocolate cobbler. My strawberry cobbler was disappointing — but everything else was so good I didn’t mind. It was quite literally strawberry sundae topping in a bowl with ice cream — blech. Literally, that’s all it was. He got the chocolate cobbler which was really just a fudgy brownie with ice cream and syrup. He liked it ok. The meal was great, and so was our server! I didn’t care much for the desert but I would(and will!) go back every time we’re in town. We loved it! I have no problems saying, this place put the Daniel Boone Inn to shame. GIVEIT A TRY!!! Good food!

An Awesome place to eat. I almost go here every Sunday with my parents after church. They have tasty biscuits, and I love their Family Style Eats. I so glad that Pine Tavern came back to Floyd!!! Great food, warm hospitality, great service, good times!

Not my favorite in Floyd. Neat old atmosphere but I am not a fan of family style dinner and not many healthy options. My husband loved it!

Before making our trip to the mountains for our 4th of July vacation I did some homework on where to eat. I read good reviews on the Pine Tavern so it was on the list. First of all we were warmly greeted and promptly seated(we arrived around 4 pm on Saturday since we missed lunch). Our waitress was very nice and explained how the family style meal worked. We chose to have the pulled pork with our chicken and I must say they know what they’re doing cooking the little porker. The veggies were great and well seasoned. The deserts were incredible along with the whole experience. The owner stopped by the table and made sure everything was satisfactory. If you are in the area you must try The Pine Tavern.

Nice restaurant, great atmosphere, great service but mediocre food. Have had better fried chicken at Ryan’s buffet.

We ate here last night. We got there right at closing and they let us in – the staff and service was excellent! I got barbecue that was rather dry without the sauce. The two sides I got were a salad — small and sans tomato — and green beans that were way overcooked and soggy but had a nice flavor. My husband got a steak and he said it was good. The main reason I graded this a three is because it was so hot in this restaurant! I got the impression it’s always like that and not that the AC was on the fritz or anything. One of our fellow patrons had a scary tough time with the heat at one point. We will definitely return, though, I’m sure at our next trip up to Floyd.

Despite my Labor Day weekend disappointment, I decided to give Pine Tavern Restaurant another try. This second experience was not particularly good either, but for different reasons. This time, the food was very fresh; in fact, the restaurant was so busy it seemed the kitchen could scarcely keep up with the rush of customers. The biscuits were hot from the oven, and absolutely wonderful. The starter salad was still fresh and delicious, though still marred by(another variety) of commercially-prepared dressing.(I just don’t understand why restaurants do this; salad dressing is, perhaps, the easiest thing in the world to make! Oil, vinegar, herbs, pepper, and a pinch of sugar — Voila, dressing!) The mashed potatoes, along with the green beans, were perfect, nothing could be done to improve them. However, the fried chicken was almost burned, each piece was dark brown-to-black in color(we sent the original plate back, and the server returned with more burned chicken). The roast beef was so salty it was nearly inedible(I drank water all afternoon), and the ham was mostly fat. The strawberry cobbler with ice cream was decent. Having experienced two sub-par meals from Pine Tavern, I am done with the place.

Food is serious business in the south, and recipes that are handed down from generation to generation are stashed in secret cupboards and furtively shared with blood relatives only. The meals that result from said recipes, however, are made in mass quantities that are meant to be shared with kith and kin alike. As Julia Reed opined, «Southerners can’t stand to eat alone. If we’re going to cook a mess of greens we want to eat them with a mess of people.» As the website attests, the historic Pine Tavern serves up delicious southern fare based on recipes from Mama Nell, the proprietor’s grandmother. Today their family style, ten-or-eleven course, traditional southern meals are a steal at $ 13-to-$ 14 per head(children 11 and under are priced at a sliding scale, based on age range, and kids under 3 eat free). For $ 13 you get fried chicken and one other meat(country ham or roast beef); served up with overflowing bowls of real mashed potatoes, dumplings, green beans, pinto beans, cole slaw or salad, vegetable or fruit of the day, and buttermilk biscuits; followed by homemade fruit or chocolate cobbler; plus a non-alcoholic beverage of your choice. For an extra dollar per person you get all three meats. If you’re one of those discerning types, you can also order a la carte(I recently tried the spicy grilled catfish, which came with two sides [I chose dumplings and squash casserole] and biscuits and homemade jam, for $ 10. You’re not supposed to share your family style meal with«those non family-style folk,» but when our waitress wasn’t watching I snuck tastes of everything. The squash casserole was a bit soggy and tasteless, and the green beans tasted canned. The fried chicken was a HUGE hit at the table(but a bit too heavily battered for my tastes). Everything else, from the flat-out amazing blackberry jam and airy warm biscuits, to the mashed taters and warm berry cobbler, was outstanding. The house white wine was light and grassy, perfect for the warm summer evening. The catfish was lightly fried and impeccably succulent. The dumplings were a mess of guilty pleasure. After stuffing ourselves silly, our table of four could barely stand afterwards, and we had three giant boxes packed with our leftovers. This joint is absolutely worth a stop to or from Floyd, especially if you want to indulge in a full-on glut of grandma-style comfort food and not have to do the dishes afterwards. If you’re too full to contemplate forward momentum, there’s a small hotel on site that is located down a slight slope from the restaurant, so you could probably roll from the restaurant right into your room, if you had to. Four solid stars.

The Pine Tavern is great food at a great price. We have a house in Laurel Fork, Virginia(about 30 minutes away) and every time we come up for some time away we make sure to go to the Pine Tavern! Their roast beef is perfectly cooked – slightly rare. It is in a great little town and it is awesome food. One of my top 10’s of all time!
