This one start is for the two receptionist ladies because they are nice. Last Saturday I was here for annual check up and contact lens fitting. I think the prescription is little high, so I wanted it lower, the doctor said I should try the current prescription first and then if not comfortable, I can go back and get another 5 days’ trial lenses. So this Saturday I went back to get a slightly lower trial lenses and they refuse to give to me unless I see the doctor again. But I was in a rush so I could not stay, I requested a copy of the report for the exam they did last week, but they REFUSE to give me my own report, and told me that ITISTHELAW! What? It’s the law that the patient cannot have their own medical report? Do they even know what they are talking about? Not professional.

This is a review of the Manhattan office. I have seen Dr Tsai on an annual basis for about 5 or so years. My impression is she makes most of her income from performing cataract surgery on elderly patients, especially in Chinatown and Flushing… as many ophthalmologists do in those locations. I saw her for glaucoma followup and general exams. The eye exams were cursory and except for FOV and pressure testing, no special equipment I could recall for glaucoma. She did not review my records as she always suggests the goal of lowering my pressure to normal, when I have NTG. She also pushes for cataract surgery, which is OK if you need it; most elderly people develop cataracts but if there’s no visual impairment, surgery is not necessarily called for. My mom was the victim of one of these cataract surgeons; that surgery is not complex and generally beneficial. It appears to be a safe moneymaker for these eye doctors – unfortunately my mom obtained no benefit. So, I have refrained. Her staff is not helpful. I have asked them to call in Rx, and have ALWAYS had a problem. The last straw was when they finally told me they won’t call in a mail order Rx; BTW glaucoma drugs are long term and most plans require mail order for maintenance Rx. Worse, Dr Tsai wouldn’t give me a paper Rx so I could send it in; she said Rx pads are expensive?!#? WTF? Her padded bills don’t cover a paper Rx? Never again

Janet, the receptionist is super nice and always friendly. she’s only there on Saturdays though… Dr. Nancy Tsai is always a pleasure as well — very friendly, patient and thorough. Parking can be a pain sometimes, so i think the earlier appts the better if you’re going on a Saturday. The lady that does the fittings for glasses is also great at her job — she is patient about having the frames match the person’s face ;)

If I could give ZERO stars(or minus stars)… this place would rank at ZERO stars. I chose Dr Nancy Tsai with the main intention of getting refracted for reading glasses and why not have my eyes examined by an ophthalmologist(a trained medical doctor) rather than merely by an optometrist. My medical insurance plan includes a vision plan and Dr Nancy Tsai belongs to both plans. Dr. Tsai performed a very cursory eye exam; she didn’t even perform a comprehensive dilated eye exam HOWEVER, she submitted $ 660 worth of claims to my insurance for procedures she did NOT perform!!! Not only that, when the front office area ordered new reading glasses for me, they were so under-powered that I couldn’t see/read with the glasses; I could see better with my old reading glasses. Needless to say, I had to go back to get the reading glasses redone but they got indignant and nasty! The clerk said, what prescription do you want!!! — give me a number!!! UHHHH… isn’t that the job of the doctor to prescribe the proper prescription based on the refraction testing!!! I told her I wanted to be able to read normal and small print found on product labels. The clerk got angry and said if they ordered a prescription that strong, you’ll get dizzy! I told the clerk the purpose of reading glasses is to be able to SEE what I’m trying to read… the glasses will not be worn constantly so I’m not concerned about getting dizzy! With many rude remarks flung at me, they reluctantly re-ordered the reading glasses and I asked for a receipt showing that I returned the first inaccurate pair… what the clerk did was ripped a small corner of a piece of scrap paper and scribbled something on the sliver of paper and pushed it over to me so rudely!!! So UNPROFESSIONAL! I will never, ever go back to Dr. Tsai’s practice and would never recommend them to anybody! I have changed my vision care to Columbia Opthalmology located at 880 Third Ave., 2nd Floor, NY10022 — the doctors and staff here are top-notched and they are at the forefront of medical eye research and have the most technically advanced machines for eye exams, each machine checking for separate aspects of the eye.

Went in this weekend for checkup, never go on a saturday!!! super crowded and slow. I had an appointment for 10:30, didn’t see the doctor till 11:30. they must have overbooked like crazy, i hate having the wait so long even with an appointment! annoyed~ Doctor Tsai was nice, but the receptionists were not, they have bad attitudes.

I-C-A-N-S-E-E-! Dr. Tsai and Jiang are absolutely wonderful doctors! State of the art equipment and extremely thorough examination. You’ll be seeing 20⁄20 in no time. If you have a thousand questions, these people will take the time to answer all of them! I forgot to mention, they have other O. D’s practicing here as well, but Dr Tsai is a Ophthalmologist. As a patient here, you don’t feel rushed and the Doctors really put you at ease. They also have a nice selection of frames for men, women and children. Price wise, they’re pretty competitive with the other stores around the area, to be honest, the prices can get pretty steep. In general, frames and prescriptions lenses have always been expensive, what sets these group of people apart is the superb service! Wendy, one of the ladies who works the front end of the store is always very pleasant to deal with, she does a wonderful job filling your prescription and adjusting your frames. The seating is limited here and parking in Flushing is always a nightmare. There are two spaces in the driveway, but they are roped off. When you come here, just be patient, especially on the weekends, it could get a little crowded. Don’t forget people, get your eyes checked annually.
