Had my wedding ceremony here since we held the banquet reception upstairs at Mudan. For brides to be — Mudan will charge about $ 300 to put up some partition walls and chairs so that you can have your ceremony there. I spent a ton more in comparison to that — about 1100 to rent the space at Crossing Art, and spent another 500 or so decorating it.(but a bit more bc we hired musicians and had a light cocktail hour here). I wanted my guests to feel the transition to a different space so it was totally worth the money spent. I called up Sheraton and they were charging $ 3k to rent their space for the ceremony. Rebecca was a pleasure to work with — very responsive via email which is my way of communicating. She was able to have an intern assist on the day of the wedding as well. We communicated about the floor plans and the way the chairs should be set up. Although I met her just once — on my wedding day, it was just fine. I would recommend having someone who isn’t part of the wedding be a point person contact because the bridal party and myself were all running around. My fee included setup/breakup/cleanup. We were lucky that there were no active art showings during our wedding so they had everything taken down. We had just barewalls to work with. They’re able to provide up to 200 white chairs, and 2 – 3 plastic tables(came in handy). and about 2 – 3 partition walls that move fairly easy with wheels. They also have microphones for your officiant. I hired Melissa from Melissa’s Creation to decorate my space here — mainly the cost was the drapes in the front with the arch(that was reused upstairs in the banquet). Everything else was DIY in terms of the flower petals on the floor(free provided by my florist). and the bows on the chairs were all DIY in the pics. The reason it lacks the final star is because the space is super narrow. My concern as the bride was how the chairs are set up so that the aisle is wide enough for my father and I to walk down. It was just about enough but tight. Would have definitely wanted it to be even wider but I would lose a chair on one side of the room. The posts in the room also make it difficult to work with but we had about 4 chairs on the left of the room and 3 chairs on the right side of the room per row. about 20 rows back. But the runway is long for your bridal party to strut– perfect for a wedding!

There isn’t ever a dull moment at Crossing Art. While it’s neither the largest nor most impressive gallery, I can appreciate what it brings to the hood: another side of Asian psyche, in the form of eastern contemporary art in the heart of Flushing. Whether it’s just casual browsing or attending an event, I’ve had fun here. The gallery’s director Maria, is super knowledgeable and has made some stellar recommendations on pieces that would be perfect for any home. Plus, they have a Unilocal check-in offer for a pretty significant discount for some of their gallery items. I recommend checking out Crossing Art for a little bit of a diversion from the usual scene in Flushing. It is also a great place to kill time, escape the crowd, and appreciate art on a local, yet Asian scale.

My friend brought me to this gallery for an opening reception and I totally loved it! nice little gallery with some really good works on display. I don’t really know any of them but their works are awesome. quite different from the chelsea-like pretentiousness. but the down side is that flushing is too far for me. I live in Brooklyn and Flushing is like a 1.5 hr commute. guess i will only go there when I go to flushing for great Chinese food. Oh you can also buy artworks there… prices vary for diff artists. Will look into buying something when I get a job. Oh ya it’s FREE, so if you are cheap about gallery-hopping like me, you should go there.

A clean open space that can be converted into a venue for any event, from a wedding ceremony to symposium. If you want the artwork removed from Crossing Art for your event, additional charges apply. Personally I think the art is the perfect décor to liven up any event. The staff/owners are really friendly, and the space is well-kept.

Think Flushing is just about food? Well yeah, it mostly is. But now you can also catch a little bit of art. Usually Chinese contemporary art at that! It’s a small gallery space with just a dozen or 2 pieces at any given time. They have a cool photo book on the shelf about the dynamism of Shanghai. Before and after pics from the 90s/00s.

Had a friend who is a Chinese Contemporary artist and invited me to his event. Not a very big gallery but offering some culture in Flushing. The gallery mostly displays Chinese contemporary art. I’ve been invited here by several artists for openings. Not the best gallery but it does the job and central to Flushing.

Chinese contemporary art… one word: WOW! And it’s free. From now till April 26th, their theme is «Back to the Garden: Daily Life to Spiritual Vision». The one thing that stuck out in my mind is the Shannon Plumb film. GOSEEIT!!! I can’t spoil anything for you all, can I? Somehow I stumbled upon this place — empty because no one ever goes in here, probably due to the fact that this place is new. Surely, the emptiness created an outerworld vortex that only my friend and I enjoyed.
