Another solid Massage value in Flushing. Derrick Spa is surprising. Walking up the long flight of stairs, the door opens onto a clean, spacious facility with 8 chairs for foot massage(often with 2 – 3 Chinese being attended to by men) and about 8 rooms with«accordion doors» for the 4 or so Chinese women available for massage. Rest room is fine, and there are even two fancy«pod like» shower stalls. But I must admit, cleanliness there is not at the level of the Hilton and the water is not exactly hot… so shower shoes and a willingness to withstand a bit of cold is advised. However, a shower in Flushing is indeed rare, and for no charge, it is quite a nice benefit. The English level of the attendants varies, but they are all quite nice, and based on Chinese clients, they must be good –competition in Flushing is tough. The gal who put my back to right was Lilly, who is sweet as well as diligent. No shorting of time here! The timer is brought in, the full 60 minutes is shown, and then a strong and accomplished massage begins. Chinese music is often accompanied by angelic voices of the massage girls… just go with it, avoiding Yanni is another benefit! I believe the rate is $ 30 per hour,(with the ubiquitous Buy 10 get 1 Free card) but I was so impressed with this facility, and particularly with Lilly, that I paid a whopping $ 150 up front for 6 hours… and after three times at $ 25/hour, I am hooked. I tip $ 20 per hour(don’t play Western 20% of the fee games, this is not Applebees tip structure) as the gals work basically for tips only. Besides, vs Bliss or some fru fru place again, is a solid value. Want heaven? Do two hours and tip $ 40. No better use of $ 100 in the universe. You even get your choice of post massage cup of water(eastern style: warm/hot or the foolish American style: cold –even in winter! Do your body a favor, go eastern! So, do something nice for your body. Derrick Spa is worth the visit, half a block south of Northern BLVD, on Main. It is right across from the new Starbucks on Main should you want to re-caffeinate. And if you get Lilly, you will know inner peace, no caffeine needed!
