I want to start off by saying that the above reviewer said this is a Japanese acupuncturist. It is not. The doctor and technique are Korean. It is a very different thing all together, I have been to many acupuncturists for many years though I have only reviewed one. The above reviewer said ask anyone in Flushing and they will tell you he is the«best» acupuncturist. My husband’s parents live there and never heard of him. I am having some serious health issues that I wanted to get relief for. So we figured we would try Flushing. My husband’s mom claims to have a birthday about once a month where she makes her children take her out. Pretty good scam she pulls off. But we had to be in Flushing anyway. We saw this review on Unilocal.I am glad the above reviewer is being helped but it is not for me. First let me start by giving some info on the difference between Korean, Chinese and Japanese acupuncture. Most sites say Korean acupuncture is not as effective, that it is more like reflexology and that anyone can learn to do it. I am not sure why the above reviewer thought it was Japanese as all of the signs in the office are Korean the doctor is Korean and the TV they had on was Korean TV. In any case as she says he doesn’t keep the needles in he pokes you with them. It is the only time I have had pain during acupuncture. I was sore and stressed when I left. I still have red marks and bruises. Which I usually do not get. The doctor was pleasant and on his wall it says he has a PHD in «Oriental Medicine» from Korea. He was certified in the US here according to the certificates on his wall. Korean acupuncture only uses the hands most sites say, but he does the hands and feet. He did not answer our questions and tried to get us to come back 10 times and buy herbs. I had to wait to post this to see if I might get better. As most acupuncture is cumulative. I do not think I will be going back. It did help my insomnia tremendously but not the other symptoms. I usually have an immediate response from, I did not have any immediate response other than pain. I have an on going back spasm and other issues which it did not address. My insomnia was helped but my back pain was not only not helped but seemed a bit worse. Not sure if it was connected to the acupuncture but I know it did not help my back. The worst part was his needles are NOT disposable! I did not realize this at first as my eyes were closed because it was painful. I did not realize that anyone used non disposable needles any more. They were sterilized but still not disposable. Unlike many others, I am not afraid of needles. I am used to them. Unless someone pokes me and draws blood then it is painful. He asked if I had acupuncture before I said yes, Chinese acupuncture. He said it’s not good, Korean is better. But I kind of disregarded that as ethnic pride as I have observed that many ethnic groups tend to judge each other. That is just silliness to me. But back to the acupuncture. I do not want to be mean or take away any business. Everything in his office is written in Korean and he has been there for a while so I think most of his patients are Korean. So this won’t affect the business anyway. Just posting my own experience. I am not saying not to go to him. It just did not work for me. On the plus side his office is a bit cleaner than many of the other acupuncturists I have been to. I hate the 5 star system, I will give 3 stars based on my experience. Not saying it is bad just saying it is not for me.

Dr. Yom is known to be the best acupuncturist in Queens, ask anybody in Flushing and you’ll hear the same thing. He may be an old man but rest assured because hes been practicing acupuncture for many, many years. It kills me when people claim acupuncuture doesnt work, trust me, it does. I know Western medicine shits on it all the time, instead they want to have you drugged up on antibiotics and antidepressants(dont get me wrong, I do feel antibiotics are necessary at times and I am extremely grateful for all the pills I had to take however, acupuncture can help the body and mind tremendously) Over the years I have suffered with pneumonia, insomnia, hormonal problems, dislocated shoulder, anxiety and the list goes on and on… Heres where Dr. Yom comes in… His english may not be the best but he knows whats wrong with my body before I even say anything. Most acupuncturists poke you with needles and leave you in a room for 20−30minutes, Dr. Yom practices what I believe is a Japanese style of acupuncture where he pokes you with a needle without leaving them in(sounds painful but its not that bad). He also does cupping, my previous acupuncturist never did that and its honestly the best thing ever!!! You feel like a thousand pounds of stress have been taken out of your body. He also has 100’s of herbs in his office and he always gives me some yucky herbs to take home and drink. Dr. Yom has helped me tremendously with my anxiety. When you talk to a Western doctor about anxiety they’re very quick to prescribe xanax, klonopin etc. Eastern medicine looks at the whole body and they believe certain organs such as the heart, liver and spleen can cause anxiety. I’m starting to believe thats true. Finding a parking spot in Flushing can be crazy at times, no worries cause he has parking in the back of his office. If you’re looking for a good acupuncturist look no further, Dr. Yom is your man!
