New owner! Everything changed, and they gave us undercooked rice. Terrible Chinese food. I would never come again.

My favorite Sichuan Chinese Resturant so far in Flushing!!! I’m not a huge fan on that Karaōke thing, don’t really like people singing very loud when I’m eating but except this, everything is great!!!

My friends and I often come here. It’s the one of the best Northern style restaurants in Flushing. The dishes r tasty and there is great amount of food. We like the beef(lamb) with cumin and diced chicken with peanuts. It made us very very full! Wonderful place!

My grandparents moved nearby so literally our entire family comes here every week for dinner, and it’s amazing. Definitely some of the best Chinese food in Flushing. The portions are huge. Three dishes can feed 6 people comfortably. Not to mention the prices are pretty cheap considering the portion and quality! I would 100% recommend the cumin lamb and the fried eggplant, along with the walnut shrimp. Very delicious! They can get pretty crowded and the place doesn’t look super fancy, but it is very authentic. Contrary to their english name, they also have non spicy food, like the fried eggplant that are amazing They also serve traditional chinese breakfast here in the mornings… those are rather mediocre compared to their lunch/dinner. They do serve yo tiao(idk what white people call these, crullers?), pork buns, leek dumpling things(jiu cai he zi), corn/rice porridge, tea leaf egg, soy milk.

Finally, after 10 months of waiting for my left leg to recover from my accident last January, we returned to Flushing to continue our quest to try all the great variations of Chinese Cuisine… and there are alot! The streets and sidewalks leave alot to be desired and I needed to be very careful so as not to take a flop on a dip or break in the walking surface. With BG holding my hand we carefully crossed Main Street to try Spicy House… No sign in English but from previous reviews I noted it was next door to a big RED sign… And there it was. this very basic and non pretentious restaurant basically across the street from HLY and Grand Sizchuan. We were received by friendly staff and I double checked on the BYOB as a small sign on the door said NO Alcoholic beverages allowed. We had two bottles of wine and they had no problem with us bringing it in. What happened after that was both interesting and entertaining. As we were seated a waitress approached and told us that this restaurant is not American Chinese and did we want to be here. We told her we knew that and we had chosen this place because of that. Then she reminded us their food was prepared very spicy and again we said thats great bring it on. That being said we were on to the menu. What she said was true, the menu is really ethnic and included many items we have never tried. For Appy we got the Chefs Special Tofu. it was mashed with spices and hot peppers and tasted wonderful but there was so much we took it home and had it with crackers the next day. They are not Sezchuan as they had none of the items like Dan Dan Noodles et. al… We understood the entres were very large so we went straight to them next. Our favorite was the Dry Wok Spicy Oxtail. full of meat on the bones and the sauce was outrageous! Really a great choice… We also got one of our favorites… the Sliced Fish in Hot Chili Oil. This was really good. the fish was firm and the oil was HOT. I always try to eat like a soup but its too damned spicy to just spoon it into your mouth… its a throat closer! I was glad I had the great Bedell Cabernet Franc to cut the heat and numb me to the burn. This nondescript restaurant on the corner of Dahlia and Main St deserves a visit just because they are so different from the more lightly Americanized places in the area. Their English was just OK but we had no problem communicating our wishes. We could have been in China so it was a trip being there. We will certainly return to try more of their extensive menu.

We would give this place 6 stars if we could. Just like what Roger H said, yes, we totally agree with him that this place is absolute gem! The food, the portion, the price, & even the service were absolutely fantastic! Most of the Chinese restaurant that we went, the service were mostly below average. Spicy House’s staff were all very polite. Excellent service! Now let’s talk about the food. This place serve northern style Chinese food. The food is simply delicious! Mind blowing! Flawless! We love the food so much, we were here back to back for dinner. Everything that we ordered were just super delicious! The xinjiang beef, the shredded pork in hot oil sauce, the shredded pork with garlic sauce, wow, they were all so good. If someone asked us which one we like more, we just simply can’t answer that question. They were all equally delicious! So much flavor! As for the price & portion, it’s super cheap for the amount of food that you get. Don’t get too excited ordering too many because the portion for each dish here is like twice or more than the average Chinese dish. Let say, if you have a small appetite, three people can simply share just one dish with three orders of white rice. The décor is nothing special. It’s simple, clean, & bright. Don’t expect anything fancy. It’s also BYOB. We love this place! In our opinion, this place is the best Chinese restaurant in Flushing when it comes to the food quality, the portion, the price, & the service. This place can pretty busy around dinner time. If you are not familiar with the neighborhood, this place is located a minute away from the Queens Botanical Garden. It’s the«bright white» restaurant next to another Chinese restaurant with red lighting. If you love spicy food or food with tons of spices, this place is a must to try. You definitely won’t be disappointed. *** CASHONLY ***

Like previous review, many smokers dining there. They refused to take credit card even though they clearly posted amex/visa and mc on their glass door. Waiter was rude and just walked away when we question their payment options.

This place is an ABSOLUTEGEM! there really is nothing else i can say about this establishment. The food is delicious, the portions are ridiculously large, and the price is warehouse manufacturer cheap! this place has since become a staple which I regularly visit A combination of Northern Chinese cusine with some elements of Schezuan, an interesting combination, but the stars here are definitely of the«Dong Bei» variety. Some of the dishes I would definitely recommend would be the Cumin Lamb, done extremely well, fairly spicy with a hardy helping of cumin seeds, the lamb is extremely tender and pairs well with the peppers, cumin and spice medley Black pepper beef/steak, again the beef is extremely tender and moist, hard to explain how it tastes, but was incredibly impressed that it had a hint of sweetness to it which complimented the taste beef tendon with sea cucumber, definitely more beef tendon than sea cucumber, but that combination alone with the healthy helping of scallions and soy sauce really gave this dish an incredibly rich and savory flavor Last but not least my favorite, Fried eggplants in a sweet garlic sauce. I have never tasted anything like this before. Eggplant wedges were deep fried combined with peppers onions scallions and a sweet garlic sauce topped with sesame seeds which created an extremely sublime combination of sweet and savory with a great crunchy texture, This dish would definitely be in the mix for my last meal on earth. again truly a undiscovered slightly out of the way gem. its also BYOB so if that’s what you’re into try to keep up with the northern locals around here, they are serious about their drinking

This is what you call truly«DELICIOUSLYCHEAP!!!» The portions are SOHUGE that our party of 5 had to pack a few to-go boxes with just 3 dishes. The lamb in cumin was very well prepared and the spices weren’t too strong to the point where you’re just choking on it. The black pepper beef was very tender as well! And my favorite was the pork kidney. Okay, I know that sounds super gross but it’s really not! Be opened minded when trying some dishes! You could be missing out! Oh, and it’s BYOB! Woop woop~

Unless you don’t mind other customers smoking INSIDE the restaurant, then by all means this is the place for you. Never mind the fact that it is ILLEGAL to do so… management allows this to happen. I’ve been here multiple times with my friends and we witness it happening each time.
This is a review for the«new» Spicy House. Same location, different owner? Why come here? Twice the portion for the same price as «Flushing». It seems Flushing is moving out here slowly and this is a bit(a few blocks) out of the way from the Heart of Flushing, but the foods excellent, price is incredible, and the portions are HUGE. Our waiter messed up one order for White Sauce Seafood dish, he gave us a salty brown sauced Pork, Liver and Kidney dish instead and refused to take it back — but my parents explained that if he did he would be fired so we took one for the team. Would still go back though!

Good food, great value. It’s nice to find a hidden gem this side of main street, avoid traffic and easy to find parking at night.

When I walked in today with my family and saw the« Unilocal loves us!» sticker along with a huge crowd of people, I groaned in despair because I realized the secret was up. Around this time two years ago the manager managed to snag one of the greatest and most famous chefs in TianJin after he immigrated and was looking for work. The Restaurant Formerly Known as Spicy House is without a doubt, THE best Asian restaurant in Flushing. A bold claim to live up to I know, but the restaurant really deserves that title. Spicy House isn’t exactly an accurate name for this restaurant now, because the name was changed from Spicy House to that of the new chef’s old restaurant in China. — Shi Hai Ju To sum it up: Cost — The pricing on the dishes match the prices throughout Flushing, but Master Gao gives you twice the portion considered standard in the area. To take the pricing into perspective, my birthday dinner with a party of 12, wine included, ran up no more than $ 140 in costs. Cuisine — The most authentic Lu(Northern) cuisine restaurant in Flushing, I’m looking at you Fu Run. The manager supplies the restaurants with spices from her own organic-grown garden, and the portions are hearty northerner sized. The presentation of the food is expertly done, usually arranged beautifully with rich, vibrant, glistening colors and symmetry. The flavors are powerful, intense, and will leave you singing in bliss. Chef’s Specialties — Seafood in general, but the regular dishes will kick the crap out of specialties anywhere else.(Fried shrimp and cabbage in butter) is Master Gao’s signature dish.

Really tasty food. Really cheap. Really good. They have some cheaper daily special dishes that are also really super good and I suggest you order them. Nothing super special or different from other local Chinese places in terms of choices(the restaurant is basically a Northern Chinese place). But, the food was really tasty so I suggest you try it.

This place has fastly become one of my favorite restaurants. I highly recommend the mapo tofu and the kung pao chicken(it’s authentic, not like something you would get from your corner take-out place). Unlike many Chinese restaurants, they don’t keep a tank of live fish swimming around, so if you order any seafood, they actually send a waiter out to the nearby supermarket to buy it for you. This can cause a little bit of a wait in your dish being served — a downside if you’re really hungry and/or all your other dishes have come out way in advance already. It’s clean, everyone who works there is friendly, the food is delicious. ‘Nuff said.

We went tonight expecting the old Spicy Road cuisine but realized it had changed owners when we entered. At that point, we decided to give it a try. Even though we were a party of four, they gave us a big table with a lazy susan. We were served tea immediately and given a small plate of peanuts. Our waiter was very attentive and recommended some dishes to complement the ones we had ordered. The cold appetizers are displayed in a refrigerated case so the rest of my dinner party went to look. Then came my husband’s choice… spicy, boneless chicken feet. Yup, you read that right! I have no idea how long it takes to de-bone the feet but what you’re left with is a slightly crunchy gelatinous thing(kind of like jellyfish) which has been marinated in a hot chili dressing. Not bad but I didn’t eat much. My daughter found it too spicy. Then our first course came: Seafood casserole. Since it was quite chilly out tonight, we opted for a hot clay pot of seafood. There were shrimps(with heads still on) displayed nicely in the middle. The casserole also included cuttlefish, squid, and sea cucumbers, together with bean threads and napa cabbage. The broth was quite sweet and tasty. I had two bowls sans sea cucumbers. Next, sliced beef with chili. We loved the one served by the old Spicy Road but now it wasn’t nearly as spicy. The beef had a gooey coating of flour or something and it was served with shredded celery and bean sprouts. There were plenty of dried red chili peppers which I didn’t touch. The sauteed vegetables() [hollow vegetable, «kong xin tsai» in Mandarin or on-choy in Cantonese] with garlic was ok. Can’t really go wrong there. The waiter recommended a steamed fish head which he swore had more meat on it than just a head skeleton. When it came, there was a layer of sliced chili peppers on top so I expected it to be super hot. It wasn’t, just mild. Not bad. The only other things we ordered were some steamed buns, flower style. My husband prefers buns to rice so he had that. He said it was alright. The meal ended with a plate of sliced oranges. The waiter and waitresses constantly refilled the teapot and changed our plates. So, the service was very good. Overall, we left stuffed and even packed some leftovers. We might go back, not quite sure when though.

Usually you go into a Chinese restaurant not expecting any service. Therefore, when the waitresses seem to ask you how things are every other second, then the experience here was quite pleasant. :) Mind you, i came in for lunch and it wasn’t so busy so that may have been a factor for attention too. I had spicy«dan-dan» noodles which usually comes with pork. They offered to make it without it which was good because i enjoyed every morsel of the noodles. I remember eating first in Beijing back in 2007 and i was so glad to eat them again. :) We also ordered this tofu but i didn’t like it because it was fried… so we ordered string beans which were really good as well. They were stir-fried to perfection! I will come again– next time i really want to try their hotpot!
