U-Haul Moving & Storage of Flushing

I reserved an enclosed trailer for Flushing pick-​up a week in advance. Three days before, I called the local agent and requested a trailer when they opened at seven am. I was told my request would be recorded and would be called the day before the rental. That day, in the afternoon, I was told my reserved trailer would be available at ten am… in Bensonhurst Brooklyn! How enyone thinks that is acceptable is beyond my comprehension.

I would not come back to this UHAUL location. I would not reccommend this location to a friend.
While the counter and the gentleman that gave me the rental were excellent, JOHN, the person who checked me out was beyond terrible.
When I returned the vehicle John (that’s the name on the form he checked me out on, honestly, he didn’t have a name tag) walked towards the truck with no acknowlegement towards me whatsoever. I honestly didnt know if he was a mute. He pointed at the door to ask me to open the door for him. After I did so, did I get a thank you? I’ll spare you the suspense. I guess UHAUL has a policy of not thanking the customer. Ever. He yelled at me for closing the door after he inspected the back. I thought I was doing him a favor because clearly he wasn’t interested in doing anything today.
I don’t think my experience with John is an isolated incident. I’d bet other customers have gotten the same level of service from John.

We placed our reservation for a 10′ truck the night before. There were plenty available at this location. Upon receipt of the confirmation email we were sent a link for express check-​in. This basically allows you to input your license and credit card information in advanced to speed up the process once you arrive. I don’t think it sped anything up because they still ask to see your card and they verify all of the information that you provided a second time. They also call your phone on site to verifty your number so be sure to have your cell phone handy. There were three agents handling the pickup process. We waited about 10 minutes before we were attended to. The rep assigned to us was Raquel, she wasn’t particularly cheery but neither am I at 8 o’clock in the morning on a Saturday (especially if I’m working) so I get it. She did however get the job done quickly, efficiently, and accurately.
We waited about another 10 minutes before our truck pulled up. We glanced over it for damage with an nice older gentleman by the name of Mr. Amoroso. He was very friendly, easy going, and had a great sense of humor. We signed on the dotted line and pulled off headed to the next part of the moving job; loading up the truck. As I hit the first of many potholes on College Point Boulevard I soon noticed that my drivers side mirror was broken. Not the mirror itself but the housing that keeps it steady. Every time I hit a bump of two it moved further and further to the left until I had no line of vision of the cars approaching to the left and behind me. This was very frustrating because I kept having to roll down the window to reposition it thus loosing all the cool air in the truck. On a breezy day I likely wouldn’t have minded as much but it was hot and sunny. The truck itself was pretty beat up, lots of body damage. I didn’t mention the mirror because I did not want to get blamed for it. The inside wasn’t very clean either. The windsheild was disgusting. It was evident this truck had not been washed in months. It got us from point A to point B and did the job, so I was glad that we didn’t experience any other issues with breakdowns and such.
We told the rep that we would like to have the truck for 10 hours just in case. However we could have kept it longer. They don’t charge by the hour only by the mileage so when they ask you how many hours always tell them more hours than you expect to need it. If you tell them 2 hours and don’t have it back in that time they charge you a $ 50 convenience fee because someone could have rented the truck after your expected return. Even if someone doesn’t they can just say they did and charge you the $ 50 anyway so to be on the safe side again always overestimate. If you plan on going over a certain amount of miles they have a deal where you can just rent the truck for the day instead of the mileage and the average for that runs about $ 120. Anything over 40 miles and that is the best deal for you so make sure you ask about the different types of packages they offer for exactly the type of move you are planning.
Upon return there was massive amounts of traffic on the surrounding blocks as well as in front of us on the equipment return line. The reps assigned to that area wanted to get the trucks checked back in as soon as possible so they handled all the customers with a sense of urgency. There were likely other customers who had reserved these trucks upon for later in the day. the return process was quick and simple. I handed over the keys and was directed inside to get a partial refund since I had put down a $ 100 deposit but my bill came out to less so I had some change due. The wait wasn’t quite as long but the shifts had already changed by 3pm so we dealt with a different crew. This time I was greeted by Hafsa who was polite and trying her best to handle the customers on line while answering the phones at the same time. She printed our receipt and handed us the cash and we were done. Overall the experience was mostly painless, the truck could have been better but there were no issues with any of the employees.
Of course no move is complete without a loss and a break. Yes a few things did break in the process but that’s not U-haul’s fault. At some point my spare lithium cell phone battery fell out of my purse and is likely sitting in their truck. I called back to see if anyone had turned it in but they said the truck was currently out on a job and they would check when they got it back and call me if they found it. They didn’t call so I guess not. At least they tried.
I would definitely use this location again but lesson learned I will make sure everything is working properly before pulling out of the lot and request a better truck if I am not satisfied.

My experience here was simply abysmal. I’m not one to complain about poor customer service, but to call the treatment I received at this location — and from U-​Haul overall — «customer service» would be a farce. I was guaranteed at 17-​ft truck at 10 am. I happened to call at 9:15 asking about my reservation, and they said the truck wouldn’t be available until 11:30. Unacceptable, because I had to be out of my apartment by noon. This «guaranteed» reservation quickly spun out of control. I inferred that I’d be looking for a discount because U-​Haul didn’t hold up its end of the bargain. The representative at the store argued back that, U-​Haul hadn’t yet actually defaulted on its agreement, so why don’t I come down at 10 as planned. Fine. I went. When I arrived, I was told the truck wouldn’t be there until after noon. Now we have a huge problem. The store clerks said well, the customer who currently has the truck said he’d be back at 9, and he’s delayed. I said, that’s not my problem, it’s yours. They offered a 17-​ft truck at a location 45 minutes away — I live in New York, I don’t have a car, that wasn’t an option. I said because the truck isn’t here, you are defaulting on your agreement, I’d like a discount. The instead offered me two 10-​ft trucks for the same price as the 17-​ft truck. No discount. If I had gone to the other location 45 minutes away, THAT would’ve counted as a default. Thank goodness I had my boyfriend in town to help me move/​act as a second driver. Otherwise I would have been DOA at the U-​Haul location in Queens. I confirmed with the manager that my drop-​off would be a stone’s throw away from my new home. However, a text message came in later that day saying the drop-​off would be elsewhere. When I called corporate, they said the location I requested reached it’s limits for one-​way 10-​ft trucks. Again, this shouldn’t be my problem. U-​Haul is the one that gave me two 10-​ft trucks instead of what I requested, so they should’ve accommodated my situation. Throughout the process, the store clerks, store manager and representatives at the corporate number gave me an attitude and placed the blame everywhere else but on their company. «The previous customer is delayed» «Those trucks are only local» «That lot is at its limit for one-​way trucks.» They were rude and unaccommodating. They gave a one-​hour cushion for the truck I requested. That seems absurd. If I didn’t have that second driver, I don’t know how this would’ve turned out. Needless to say, U-​Haul lost a customer this weekend, and I’ll never be using their services again.

I had a hitch installed in my suv with the electrical connections so my boat trailer will have brake lights and turn signals. I took the 2 year warranty also. The electrical system went haywire I returned to uhaul. Install team said bring it to the dealer. I did the dealer said I had voided the new car warranty and that uhaul burnt the wiring harness and fried 2 control modules. The uhaul insurance said they will fix it bring it back to them i called the uhaul manager he said they didn’t have the tools or ability. So I paid the dealer for the repair they reinstated my warranty. Out of pocket for the initial hitch installion, the GMC service center totalling $ 2000. My advice don’t trust uhaul to install electronic devices in your vehicle. They were refered to as «Butchers…» the insurance agent doesn’t respond to emails or calls anymore. No refund or compensation is offered or expected.

After reading some really disappointed reviews, I was pretty nervous to rent a van for my move. I should not have been. Overall, the experience was great.
Arrival: There is parking around the back of the building. After entering the main building, we had to stand in line for a LONG time, since there were only one or two cashiers working.*
*While we were waiting in line, one of the cashiers was taken up having a very loud 30-​minute argument with a customer. The customer insisted that he had been told over the phone that he could return his van late. The cashier (and manager) insisted that this was not a policy of theirs. It got pretty heated, and made for a suuuuuuper long wait.
We eventually signed our contract with a friendly cashier. She gave us all the information we needed and was really helpful.
Pickup: once you get your keys, you go out and wait for someone to bring your truck to you and help you inspect it. From the time we signed the contract and got the keys to the time we left was 10 minutes, tops. Very speedy and friendly.
Return: there’s a special space to pull your van in when you return. An attendant will come back, check your van, and bill you. The entire return process took us 5 minutes.
Overall, I really recommend them. They were fast, competent, and professional. I’m knocking one star off because the wait to speak with a cashier was really excessive. As other reviewers mentioned, it wouldn’t hurt them to put another person on staff.

As other reviews had mentioned, when you first walk, the customer service reps are not professional at all. They don’t have a smile on their face and they are not ready to help with the services they are suppose to provide. They make you feel that you owe them something, almost like going to the DMV. Horrible service from the beginning, but they do warm up after 5 minutes into transaction. Long wait even if there are no other customers. (That was my experience, no other customers in store, and three people behind register, but they had me wait for about 5 minutes.)
The person that retrieve the van is quite friendly and explained the damages that he sees.
My return was a nightmare. It was snowing, and drizzling the day I returned the van. There was a little puddle in the van, but I did top it off with gas and vacummed at the local gas station before my return. It was not perfect, but it was not dirty as the worker taking the van had indicated. He complained that he has to clean the back of the van so he will charge $ 30. What a scam, You rent a car that is not clean in the first place, you clean it up, and they still charge $ 30 cause they feel that they want to clean it better for the next customer. They are in the wrong business if they choose not provide clean vans. They are suppose to check and clean the van regardless if I bring it back clean or not. Its their job to make sure the van are in tip top shape rather they make the sole responsible to the renter. I didn’t profit from the rental, they did, they should maintain their own fleet. Next time BUDGET Truck Rental will be my CHoice rental. Never had problems with BUDGET, so I should never had given uhaul a chance.

I was quite satisfied with uhaul.
Had to rent a truck to move a few things. They suggested the truck size and gave me the heads up what it would cost me with approximate mileage when I would return it.
Return was quite fast. Drop off. Sign a few things and they email you the confirmation.
Not sure if I got lucky with staff. But they were quite helpful and knew what they were doing.

Recently I rented a truck and a van for my move. The first time I was there, I got this lady named Rosanna. She was very unprofessional. She was chewing or eating something while talking to me and making a lot of noise. Every time I asked her a question she would roll her eyes. When it came to insurance for truck, I wanted the one that has liability coverage. She told me they didn’t offer any, and the customer service next to her said the same thing. She even said «I told you so after». Luckily I read the descriptions on the 2 coverages they offered and found out the Safemove Plus did have liability coverage.
The afternoon crew when I returned the truck was better. Everyone was professional and friendly.

When you walk into this location, the staff definitely do not give you a good first impression. They kind of ignore you for a very long time but they soon warm up to you. After purchasing a bundle of moving boxes, the staff assisting me asked if I wanted to have the boxes folded in half. He saraned wrapped the folded boxes making it easily manageable for a small Asian girl such as myself. Then he went out of his way to help me carry the bundle to my car. I really appreciated that extra service.
The store had tons of different supplies that you would need when moving. I was happy to see that they had affordable items and higher end items for people on different budgets. The prices for the moving boxes were comparable to other stores in the area. Overall, a good place to go when you are relocating.

My review is based solely on the fact that we came here looking to buy a pre-​owned 10′ box truck. The woman who helped us, Alicia, was extremely helpful, courteous, professional, and most of all honest with us. She answered all our questions and went above and beyond. We got to test drive the trucks with her, and she explained the bidding process with us.

I have rented from this location twice now in the past year, and each time, I have had nothing but positive experiences. It is well worth the drive up there from central, or even western queens just based on their customer service alone. Other locations have left me aggravated, with no concern for customer issues. Not the case here, all of the staff is knowledgeable, helpful and accommodating. Had the truck I want, at the time I want, and made everything clear as day. Would definitely use them again if I ever did have to move (let’s hope that’s not for a very long time!)

I used them to install a trailer hitch. I had no drama. Car returned in 60 minutes as promised.
They also refunded me for items ordered on line that I didn’t need

This place was so miserable. I had a u-​box (piece of s$*# wooden crate that you pack your crap in and it is then shipped across the country). I fill the box, bring it back to u-​Haul, and then the guy notices that it is missing parts and the latch is bad. WHY THE HELL DID YOU SEND IT TO ME IN THE FIRST PLACE… Wait this gets way better. So after the guy replaces the latch, he notices that there are no holes to bolt the door shut. So he does the logical thing, he takes a drill and makes some holes. But oh wait all my things are in the box… He drilled through part of my couch. Not even an apology, just tells me to file a claim. Avoid this place at all costs. While waiting to file a claim, I could tell that everyone around me was having equally awesome experiences with the staff.

I finally was able to speak to the manager who called me back after a week of constantly trying to get in touch with someone. The manager was very pleasant and offered me a free month of storage. I told her I only needed a month of storage in total so that didn’t work but I’d like a refund for the charge that was not properly explained. Eventually she conceded and gave me a refund but the amount of grief I had to go through to get anyone on the phone was unbelievable. I never received an explanation or apology but at that point it didn’t matter because now I’m just glad its over.

The worst experience ever!
This Asian woman (employee) was very annoyed to explain to us about storage options. Once we chose one option, she spoke to another employee to show us the storage room. This employee then decided to take the keys, left us in the office, and go out to help someone else. After standing there for good 10 mins, another employee (she seemed to be a manager. at least she was the only responsible employee there) told the Asian woman to take us to the storage room. And then it started.
This employee was complaining in front of us about every single thing. How bad customers were, how she hated her job, how she hated when customers held the elevator, how she hated the complication of the floor where she couldn’t find the storage room I was going to rent, how she hated the fact that she was told to show the storage room, how she hated when my friend went to the opposite direction to help her find the storage room after 10 – 20 minutes of basically walking around the whole floor, how she hated when I asked if she could provide me any map of the floor because she confused the hell out of us.
After she showed us the storage room, we came back to the main office. And you will love this part. NOT! She didn’t know what she was doing! She was messing up with my rent record and payment. Finally she asked the manager-​like employee to help, and it looked like the manager taught her so many times how to do things and she never learned. The manager decided to take over the task and was going to do it quickly so that she could send us quick, but then this Asian employee started complaining and yelling at her saying «You never let me learn anything!» and blah blah blah in front of us. I was so tired of her and said «Can we just get this done and leave already?», but I guess it wasn’t enough complaint for her. She was talking about how bad the manager was for the entire time the manager was helping us get out of the hell.
Now when I go back there, I don’t even look at that employee anymore. I don’t pay to listen to her complaints.
P.S: The storage was open during the hurricane Sandy, but the main office was closed.
P.S2: They have a deal: if you pay for 2 months upfront, 3^rd month is free!

I had a hitch installed and the service was great and price was ok. The service was performed relatively quick, but there inlies the problem. After further review they removed the rubber brackets holding my muffler but never replaced them back. Makesure to check work done. Other than that, GREAT

Me and my grandfather decided to rent a small truck to transport our belongings from our storage place. So, we went and made a reservation for a small truck from U-​Haul the day before the move. Everything was alright.
The next day, we took the truck out and moved everything out and transported everything with no problem. We head back to return the truck. This was when there’s a problem.
Heading into the office, we were told to wait outside and someone would be there to take care of us. Mind you it was very cold and windy outside, but we went outside and waited for a few minutes. No one arrived. We head back inside and asked the workers at the front who we were waiting for and if there was anyone that can take care of us in the office. We, again, were told to wait outside. We then went outside and looked around, and we’ve found the guy who was supposed to help us way across the parking lot. We tried to flag him down while he was looking directly at us, but somehow he just ignored us and went about doing something else. We went back inside and voiced our concern, only to be told that we have to wait outside again.
At this point we went outside and looked for the guy, and when we found him and expressed our concern, he told us that we could have just waited in the truck and he would’ve came over. We weren’t told that in the office! Apparently the people at the office wanted us to wait outside in the cold, and expect us to wait there instead of better alternatives. Lack of communication between employees makes me perturbed and agitated. They don’t even care. Way to go.
We also had other minor issues with customer service afterward. Not doing this again.

I’m only a fan because this place is very convenient for storage space if you are a Flushingnite. There is parking and they are open on weekends. My only complaint that the service is kind of slow. The facilites are pretty decent in the storage area.
