Pretty good. The pan fried soup dumplings were actually really good. The soup dumplings are pretty small, so don’t compare them to nan xiang. But not bad at all, this place surprised me. The only thing I wish they had was better hot sauce.

The food was okay. Giving a one star based on waiter’s terrible manner. We gave 10% tip and he wouldn’t let us go unless we pay 15%. Don’t go there unless you wanna get rubbed by the waiter.

Continue to be impressed with their small cakes. Their meat ones are just as good as their turnip ones. Also tried their fried rice cake with Chinese chive, curry beef soup(a Shanghainese specialty), and chilly pepper and beef soup noodle. All are authentic and delicious. Their drunken chicken was too light in flavor.

Tried the soup dumplings here. There were two types: one with thinner dough that was steamed and another one that was fried with a thicker dough. The steamed version was not bad, but not the best that I’ve had. The broth was not as hearty as the one from Joe ginger. I only ever tried the fried version here, so can’t compare it to other places. Since the dough was heavier it was more filling than the steamed version, but just as flavorful. It is worth trying, but will fill you up quickly. Service seemed to be lacking and the waiter ignored us when we tried to get his attention to redeem the Unilocal check on offer. Probably won’t be back since there are better options not too far away.

In comparison to other shanghainese places I think this place is just ok but I gave an extra star because I like my carbs cooked QQ and this place does it well. The good Carbs in general — I like their dough — noodles, pancake, dumpling skin Soup dumpling — soup is okay, meat filling is good. Steamed veggie dumpling — I personally like this but I know a lot of people who don’t like it in general Pancake w sliced beef — It’s good but salty. Needs less sauce. The bad, what you should avoid Sirloin Noodle Soup — tough meat, bland soup The mediocre — mainly the cold dishes Chicken in Shanghai style Marinated Gluten Spicy Beef & Tripe Fried udon in Shanghai style Cold noodle The damage including tax/tip $ 75 so it’s pretty fair

This is a hidden gem! My bf and I ordered soup dumplings, sirloin noodle soup, noodles with peanut sauce and beef tripe. Allergic to peanuts so couldnt eat the noodle with peanut sauce. Ate the beef tripe and thought it was too spicy. Soup dumplings was super fresh and if youre like me who likes the soup dumpling skin thing you will love it here! Sirloin beef noodle soup was on point! Beef was cooked to perfection. Cant wait to come back and try more! Oh i got a chocolate popsicle for checking into Unilocal!:) I also got the soy milk. Loved how it was super cold and it came in a bowl. Super asian ^.^

This place is a bit off the beaten path, located on Kissena Boulevard on the southern tip of Flushing. But if you have high standards for Shanghainese food, and don’t care for the generic-non-Shanghainese-run Shanghai places that serve dishes like Shredded Beef with green peppers (小椒牛肉丝) and Sliced Beef Pancakes(牛肉夹饼), things which you won’t ever find in any Shanghainese restaurants in the actual city of Shanghai, then it’s definitely worth the drive to this place, where you’ll find authentic items like Spicy Pork Noodle Soup(辣肉面),Eel Noodle Soup(鳝糊面),Crispy fried rice cake(粢饭糕), and the most authentic Pan-Fried Soup Dumplings(生煎)(not the steamed variety) I’ve tasted in the US.

This is more for their customer service. I ordered their food thru . I am never a fan of take out, but felt lazy that day. Food itself was fine, probably a solid 3 stars(most likely would have been 4 if I were dining in). One of the fish dishes I ordered, it was so hot that the plastic cover half-melted along with the fish. I phoned them. Being an easy person like I am, I did not demand anything, but kindly advised them to be more careful next time. The phone person was very serious about my advise and gracious enough to offer me full refund with a free entrée even I insisted not necessary. Good customer service.

The Department of Health arrived a little after I did when the waiter took my order of Crab & Pork Soup Dumpling then added Deep-Fried Rice Cake(粢饭糕) which I have been searching for it thee longest time as a childhood memory visiting Shanghai when I was a little girl. I looked over the menu again and found Crispy Little Pork Moon Cake(鲜肉月饼) which is something that I love eating in Shanghai. The waiter told me and my parents that the waiting time might be longer but I really wanted to cross this off my list of To Try. He gave us free popsicles as we waited but I was assuming it was Chinese ones but Weight Watchers #bummer Finally got my order and devour the food, omfg everything was soooooooo amazingly delicious! If you check in with Unilocal(Dining in), you will get a free popsicle. Definitely a come back =)

Two words: soup dumplings. I love soup dumplings so much. I’ve had soup dumplings before in Chinatown but Flushing, Queens is where it’s at. Yu Garden Dumpling House to be exact. I ordered the pan fried dumplings which were really good. I also ordered the crab and pork soup dumplings. Oh man, it was so so good. If I could eat them three times a day for the rest of my life, I would be a happy man. I also ordered a bowl of soup. The broth was ok but the pork was on point. But like I said before, crab and pork soup dumplings. Get it.

Rumored to have amazing xiao long baos — I have to say… it’s pretty darn good(not Din Tai Fung level) but it’s pretty freakin’ delicious! While in most other xiao long bao places I’d prefer the mixed crab meat ones over the regular pork ones… at Yu Garden I think the go-to would be the regular pork xiao long bao! They’re soupier(this is a good thing) than their crab counterpart and I can’t explain why, but the broth is just more tasty in comparison. Take a chance on the taro puffs — they have a nice«golden» taste, and I was pleasantly surprised! The pan fried soup dumplings might be another staple that people get, but I could probably pass on that in the future, it didn’t feel like anything special to me and I’ve definitely had better elsewhere! Lastly, if you’re there early in the day, and you’re open to it, I’m a fan of sweet, warm soy milk. YEA. I said it. I love it. This place does it well. do it. #soybeanmilkFTW After visiting this establishment, I would go back purely for the xiao long bao and soybean milk — it’s a small establishment, its not a fancy shindig of any sort — you literally sit down and it’s all about ordering the food, but if you’re in the area(and you don’t want to go all the way down to main st. flushing) this might be a good alternative! ~Chow!

Yu Garden Dumpling House, where have you been in my life? Seriously, I am no dumpling expert but this place makes some awesome dumplings! I love dumplings, I have always ordered them from the local Chinese restaurants as well as gyozas from Japanese places but I never had true authentic Chinese dumplings. For the first time trying, I have fell in love and will never look at dumplings the same again! I tried the pan fried soup dumplings as well as the crab and pork soup dumplings. Although I enjoyed the pan fried, the crab and pork soup dumplings were divine. My husband had to give me a crash course on how to properly eat soup dumplings but after the brief training, I was off. Both dumplings have a balanced amount of succulent juices and meat within however the crab and pork was true to the title of soup dumplings. The meat and broths were well seasoned and the presentation was appealing. We also had the marinated pork soup. Although it’s no Ippuddo, it is definitely worth getting. The pork was so good and melts so easily in your mouth as you chew, you can tell that it’s been slow cooking for a long period of time and that it was marinated in heavenly goodness. Although I wasn’t a huge fan of the broth, it was still rather tasty. It is definitely something I would get again on a cold day like this one. But be warned, they give you a humongous bowl so come with a huge appetite. I had to depart the place with a doggy bag. The staff here is friendly and welcoming, our waiter was very polite and professional, the dining room is quaint and intimate. Not a great place for large groups but a party of four would suffice. Cash only. Will be visiting again in the future.

I have been craving for some Shanghaiese soup dumplings but didn’t want to deal with the crazy traffic to/on Main St. I found Yu Garden through Unilocal and the pictures convinced me to give it a try. We decided to come here on a Friday night after work. Parking was easy, there’s metered parking right in front. We entered and was immediately seated since it was still early for dinner. First thing we noticed was two ladies making fresh soup dumplings in the back. We were hungry so I put in our order right away. We ordered the pork & crab soup dumplings, pan fried pork dumplings, ¼ drunken chicken and rice cakes with vegetables. Food came quick. The drunken chicken was very good. Our order of pan fried dumplings got a little messed up, instead we received 2 orders of pork & crab soup dumplings but no complains from us cause they were delicious! The rice cakes needed a little bit more taste so I asked for some hot sauce.(I love spicy food!) Overall, service was great! Definitely recommend if you’re in the area. Next time, I really want to try the pan fried pork dumplings, scallion pancakes and the soy milk.

The noodle soup here is pretty good. We got the spicy pork noodle soup & the eight treasure spicy noodle soup. The eight treasure spicy noodle soup came with tofu & some beans. When we first saw the food, we were like, wow, this is going to be very spicy! Just look at the red color soup! It turns out that it wasn’t as spicy as we thought. It definitely look spicier than it taste. The bad thing about it is that the soup has way too much oil. Definitely not something we would eat often. For $ 6.75, the portion is definitely pretty generous. It will definitely fill you up. As for the place, it looks pretty clean & the service was decent. This place is definitely worth stopping by!

Since there is a new soup dumpling joint opened in Flushing I had to try it. I already tried Joe shanghai and Nan Xiang soup dumpling so I am going to compare my experiences. Came here on a saturday night with my family. Once I walked in I was already hit when two very bad impressions. One is because it is cramped and two because there was a table that is extremely loud and drinking. I asked for water and they gave me a very freaking small cup of water. I am not kidding. It is so small that in one gulp I finished it and it is without ice. I have never went to a restaurant where they serve you a less than 8oz cup of water. Anyways besides that I tried out their pork soup dumplings, scallion pancake, pan fried pork dumplings. While others tried cantonese fried rice and brasied pork noodle soup(?). The part of the kitchen where the soup dumplings were made was outside where the dinning area is. So you can watch a chief makes it and prepares it fresh. It is just like how in Nan Xiang there is a show case area for the soup dumplings. The appreance of the dumplings looked just like Joe and Nan Xiang’s dumpling. Pretty good for a small joint. The soup in the buns didn’t break out, even though I don’t know if it is a bad or good thing. The skin of the dumplings weren’t very thin so there was no hot soup that bursted and burned your face lol These dumplings were a little smaller than compare to Joe and Nan Xiang’s dumplings. Flavor wise still can’t beat them. The scallion pancakes weren’t crispy enough. It tastes like a fried thick dough with very little scallions. It is suppose to be a little crispier. It is hard to explain but I know this scallion pancake wasn’t to die for or to order again. The pan fried pork dumplings weren’t that great either. The dough of the bun is very tough and the only thing that is decently pan fried is the bottom. Yes that is how you pan fry buns but the rest of the buns didn’t taste so «pan fried» enough. Maybe they needed to pan fried it a little more. Let’s just say I wasn’t impressed nor going to order it again. «The cantonese fried rice was good, but had better», said my brother. I didn’t get to try it so I apologize that I can’t give any review on that. Maybe my pictures will be of help. «This soup was very very salty and it is not suppose to be this salty», said my parents. I didn’t get to try this either. But I am quoting from what they said. Overall I like how this restaurant is opened right across from Gold City Supermarket. This restaurant doesn’t have private parking so you would either walk very very far from Main St. or park around the area which is filled with private homes with their cars too. The Gold city parking is always jam packed with shoppers so good luck finding parking there. Best bet is to take the bus and get off at Holly Ave then walk. It is only worth going here if you want to eat at a small restaurant, away from the busy parts of main st, and hungry after food shopping.

So this place is fairly new and located on a strip of restaurants, some of which are dumpling restaurants as well. The place is clean, spacious, but the English is kinda limited. It’s cool that there is this little dumpling making section in the back. The food: Spicy beef & Tripe– This is one of my fav dishes at Chinese restaurants, but the one here had this odd pasty/gummy texture, it was weird. The spice level was OK, but the gummy texture was apparent throughout.
Steamed pork soup dumplings– The soup dumplings were just OK. The skin was nice since it didn’t break, but then it also felt a tad doughy. The soup dumpling filling was salty, but once the black vinegar was added, any hint of salty was completely overwhelmed but the punch of the vinegar. I also had an issue with the pork filling as well, it just seemed like a lazy piece of ground pork that was rolled into a ball like the ones you get with noodle soup dished in broth. Fried dumpling– not sure if this was made in house, but it wasn’t anything special. The dumpling was on the greasy side, when I took a bite, juice shot out of the other end of the dumpling like a blow dart.

I have loved dumplings as long as I could remember. As a kid, I would order fried dumplings in our local Chinese restaurant. While tasty, I never knew the finer points of awesome dumplings: thin skin, moist and flavorful fillings. Yu Garden Dumpling House is all this and more. They have some of the best tasting dumplings and soup dumplings I have ever had. Now, while others are experts in the fine art of dumpling making and everything dumplings, this reviewer knows what he likes and he likes Yu Garden Dumpling House. The crab and pork soup dumplings had a nice mixture and ratio of filling. I could actually taste the crab. The broth was slightly salty, but worked with the overall dumpling composition. Absolutely delicious. Pork dumpling was just as good. It had a very smooth texture and flavors just exploded with first bite. I added some of their hot oil and the heat, saltiness gave added goodness. Now I have had hundreds, maybe thousands of fried dumplings, but the fried dumplings at Yu Garden Dumpling House were the best ever. Slightly browned on one side with a ton of moisture inside. This small amount of broth inside with the filling, skin was as good a combination of texture and flavor as it ever gets. Had to be the best fried dumpling I ever had. A pork and cabbage noodle soup was another example of a simple dish done right. Flavorful broth, tender pork and cabbage that added to the overall consistency of the soup. A very nice soup on a cold day. I also had a Shanghai Spring Roll. Moist inside and crispy outside. Not oily. While I am not a fan of spring rolls(I just love Americanize egg rolls), it was good, but a little on the bland side. I find most spring rolls to be either oily or bland. Yu Garden Dumpling House is a new restaurant in an area that is saturated with restaurants. They have a good product: soup dumplings and fried dumplings. Yu Garden Dumpling House will certainly succeed with their good cooking, friendly service and delicious dumplings.
