I have wanted to learn pastel painting for a long time but never really got to it. I am glad I found Barry’s studio couple of months back rather by accident. I have been Barry’s student for about a month now and have loved every single class of his. The studio environment is very laid back and relaxed. Barry himself is a great conversationalist and very jovial to be around. More importantly he is very patient, even with a beginner like me. He even lets the students use his supplies. He is pursuing and sharing his passion rather than running a business. I would highly recommend Barry for all skill levels.

No I am not just writing this because Barry is a great personal friend and arguably the most talented soul to arise from our mutually-​endured art classes many, many years ago. But Barry has developed a clientele of some very talented individuals themselves who have profited immensely from his advice. Heck even I learned something new from Barry after visiting his studio myself, and that’s saying something, since he has always been so much better than me, (as a painter) –and I’m a hard case, anyway. The studio is pleasant and everyone who’s come to learn gets a space of their own to work in, and it’s right thar on the main drag o’ the ol’ Mother Lode front. He’ll even play cool music whilst you work that will soothe your ears as well as inspire and spark your inner gift.
Make room for it in your life, it will reward you.

Been his student for over 4 years. Very relaxed, comfortable environment and accepts students of all levels. Small class is nice and cozy and lots of fun. If you are interested in painting in pastels or want to improve on your skills, this is the place to check out. Barry Jamison is soft spoken, patient, a good listener, and an excellent pastellist and instructor. Everybody is working on their projects at their own pace so there is always somebody doing landscape, portrait, cityscape or a random subject and you inspire each other and learn a lot. Highly recommended.
