Great pupusas! And great tacos too. You just really need to come with patients because each order is made to order and by scratch. So it takes time, maybe 20 — 25 mins. For me it is worth the wait. You can really taste each ingredient in the pupusa. You can make out the cheese, the chicharron, the loroco, or any combo you order. The pupusaas are thicker than most other places and fluffy and not dry. So you are well off ordering their combo dishes which comes with two pupusas and Salvadorian rice and beans on the side. Their tacos are really good too. They use the same pupusa masa for the tortillas, which gives them great texture and warmth since they serve them fresh off the griddle. The Asada was seasoned well, which was my favorite and the Lengua was ok. I am happy this place is down the block from work! p. s. they serve Hanger 24 bottled beers…

I was really looking forward to trying this place. Many friends had great things to say about the restaurant and authenticity of the pupusas. I am conflicted. Part of me wanted to give it a high rating for potential and the experience friends had shared. However, I experienced a completely different restaurant visit and it was not good, it was not horrible either. The service was slow. It was obvious they were understaffed. It took a while to be helped. Finally, our server/cashier/cook/hostess/busser/etc came to help. We ordered a sope, a pork pupusa, a pork and cheese pupusa, and two carne asada tacos. I was hoping to try the al pastor but they were not serving it today. She said she would be back with our drinks along with some chips & salsa. I was surprised at how staggered our order was brought out. First came the sope, a few minutes later the tacos, five minutes later the drinks. Fifteen minutes later came the pupusas and finally the chips & salsa. The food was good. This is where I do not know if it’s part of the Salvadorian authenticity: EVERYTHING was dripping in oil. I understand it is comfort food and all is fried; it’s definitely not a healthy option. Either way, I do not care to eat excess oil. So, it took about nine napkins to pat down the oil off the pupusas and whatever chips we ate. I added a picture, but I do not know if it photographed well. After removing as much oil as possible, it WAS quite delicious. The tacos were tasty, the tortilla was thicker than I care for but it was good and homemade. The sope was big enough to be shared between two adults. Lastly, the pupusas were good and the cabbage garnish was perfect. We did not interact with our jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none waitress except for the initial order and when dropping off our food(in stages). So, the service gets a two — I’m not high maintenance anyway. The food gets a three — it would have been a two if I didn’t remove the oil; It would have been a four if it wasn’t greasy. Overall, I give the restaurant a three because I am certain that something was way off today and it can’t be the norm. There’s no way so many people I know could have an experience in such stark contrast from my own. Will I try it again? Yes. I want to like this place. Perhaps, I have to make sure to request my food not be served in a bath of Mazola… or whatever they use. I want to have the same experience my friends have boasted about. I will probably try it after burning off all calories from the oil… yeah it was that bad.

I finally found a great pupusas place! The owners are wonderful and very helpful. The food came hot and well worth the wait! I got 5 pupusas, beans, rice, chips, salsa, and a jarritos for under 20.

Called in my order before arriving and they had my pupusas fresh and ready when I arrived. They were perfectly round and great ratio of filling to masa. If you dine in you can peek behind the counter to see the women forming the pupusas by hand. The pupusas were delicious. I will be returning :)

There is this place in Mesa, AZ called Old El Paso Tamales. They crank out the best damn tamales ever. and when my sister and bro in law visit me in AZ, we hit up Old El Paso for Tamales and Menudo. Tradition. Hangover remedy. Breakfast of Champs. While visiting their home in Fontana, California I turned to Unilocal in hopes of carrying on the tradition in their hood. I typed in TAMALES. Sweet! A place pretty close. open now. good reviews. Menudo too! Fuckin A bish, I am gone. The fam is still asleep. They are gonna wake up and be like, «is that fuckin tamales n menudo? Did my favorite brother provide our family with fat and corn surrounding luscious meat? Is that a bowl of tender hominy and stomach lining submerged in a savory red chile broth?» So I am having self-righteous, Christmas Story style daydreams in my head on the way to Café Las Papusas. but it didn’t take long before those dreams were shattered like an icicle over a young man’s face. I walked in. Ok, looks um. lame. but so does Old El Paso back home. It’s the food that matters! I am greeted by a pretty girl, and asked what I would like. Excited, and prepared(because I looked at the menu online already on the way over) I began to list my needs. «half dozen sweet cor – « –Ms. Thang interrupted. «we are out of the sweet» Me: «ok half a dozen chicken, half a dozen pork. and do you still have medudo, or am I too late?» –Ms. Thang: «leme check.(runs into kitchen. then back) YES we have menudo!» Me: «Sweet!.. one order of menudo, and 2 breakfast burritos» The young girl read my order back to me, but before I could confirm, the phone rang and she left me in limbo as she took down the caller’s really long phone order! I was a little thrown off by that, but whatever. Take my money cuz Tamales! So I sat and waited. and waited. And waited for what seemed like forever. I watched people come in, sit, order, eat, leave. Then the girl approached me and informed me they were out of menudo! I played it cool, though inside I was a wreck. She gave me 9 bucks back and apologized. So I waited some more. The guy who called in and interrupted my order came in, and explained that he had just called. The girl ran back into the kitchen and grabbed his food. A few tamales and wait… is that? Menudo!?! Oh em gee. that bitch put me on hold in person to complete his order over the phone, and he got the last MENUDO! Fuck I was pissed even more now, but remained polite, and quiet. My order was finally ready. The time of order on the receipt was 9:03am. The time when I received my food was 9:52am! 2 big bags full of tamales, and burritos. «2 burritos right?» I asked. «yes» she said. «they are both in there» «Thanks!» and I was out. Drove back, and everyone was awake like, «where the fuck were you for an hour?» Getting tamales :(yay. Burritos for the kids… wait only one burrito! As I was figuring this out, my sister complained that there were shards of bone in her tamale. Super lame. I ran the tamales, and burrito back to the restaurant, and got my money back. Time with the fam = wasted. Hopes and dreams shattered. Stomach, growling. Ef this PLACETOHELLLLLL!

You know that feeling when it’s Christmas and you’re anxiously waiting to open presents? That’s how I feel about this place. Christmas. And through the door is delicious goodness. I have not been disappointed with anything I’ve gotten here. The pupusas are delicious and that cabbage mix they give you is awesome. I’ve had the salvadorian tamales too. Oh and the habanero salsa is my favorite! My eyes are definitely always bigger than my stomach every time I come here and after I always have amazing leftovers afterwards. Not only is the food awesome(can I emphasize awesome enough?) the gals that work there are really nice too. I think Nancy(I went off the name on the receipt) helped me out today, and she was super nice and helpful. Anyways, great food, nice employees, what more could you ask for?

Went there today and thought the Papusas were good. Had the Pork/Cheese. Place is decent with good service. Only complaint is the Curtido, it totally sucked. Curtido is what really makes and breaks a Papusa. Their version is not very flavorful and is the worst I’ve ever had. Price was decent, $ 2.50 a Papusa and it’s fully loaded with cheese and meat. Sadly that Curtido was no good, so I’m not going back

Came back for Cinco de Mayo. The service and food was great as always. Again, we got a very warm greeting and immediate service. We had Sopas and pupusas, and for main dish; carne asada as well and tongue. Amazing! No complaints about the food here. If you’re looking for a hole in the wall place with great authentic food, you must try this place
