I don’t know why this restaurant doesn’t have more reviews in this small town, but the food and service were excellent. This was our first time eating at this establishment, but it will surely not be our last. The fried pork chops with gravy and fried chicken were slap your momma good! The cabbages were fresh and the mac and cheese was tasty. An excellent choice for Southern cooking.

My mother and I stopped by there on our way to Cherokee North Carolina this past Tuesday. We chose this restaurant because we had eaten there the year before on our way to Blue Ridge. The food and service back then was exceptional! First of all The waitress was horrible! She acted as though she was doing us a favour by even taking our order. She proceeded to sweep the crumbs from the floor around our table kicking up dust as we dined. Other patrons complained and asked her to please wait until they were finished eating before she did that. We ordered iced tea with lemon, she brought the iced tea and never brought the lemon. When I politely reminded her of the lemon she brought back one slice for me and my mother to Share, slamming it down on the table rudely and walking away. Our meal comes– I ordered The daily special of baked chicken which was supposed to come with two sides. I opted for steamed cabbage and a tossed salad. My salad consisted of four chopped up pieces of lettuce, one slice of chopped tomato, a quarter cup of imitation bacon bits and cheese that I did not Ask for. I proceeded to scrape out as much of the bacon bits that I possibly could plus some of the cheese. The steamed cabbage tasted old and it was hard. It smelled of some kind of pork that must’ve been used in the cooking process. Needless to say it was horrible! As far as my baked chicken I could tell that the chicken in question was probably leftover from the Sunday before in a chicken and dumpling casserole. I could taste the dough sticking to the side of the chicken. If in fact it was the daily special, she failed to bring the cornbread or roll as advertised that went with the meal. I was charged extra for my salad. Moving on to critiquing the meal my mother ordered which was a fish sandwich, steamed cabbage and mashed potatoes. The fish sandwich was presented On two slices of white bread that wasn’t even toasted. There was no lettuce, tomato or condiments of any sort. We hated to bother the waitress to ask for ketchup but there was no other way this could be eaten without something. The steamed cabbage was the same as mentioned before. The mashed potatoes were slathered in the middle with butter. The waitress never once came back and asked us if everything was okay or give us a refill on our iced teas. The bottom line— the food was horrible, the service was horrible all for total price of 26.92. Needless to say, we will never leave the Interstate again to eat at a place that was the worst we have had in our lives. Steer clear of this restaurant unless you want a horrible dining experience. It was a nightmare!

Found this restaurant on Unilocal. We prefer avoiding fast food chains when on vacation. Traveling with Unilocal provides quality meals and fun times with family. We have not been led astray. Local community workers were dining when we arrived… I knew we were in for a treat. The whole meal took about an hour and it was worth every minute! There was not a morsel left on our plates. The main dishes ordered were fried fish, smothered pork chops, and crispy chicken. All were fresh and hot! The sides were homemade and delicious! The meal was so pleasant, we ordered dessert! After lunch… Who has dessert after lunch? The red velvet cake and peach cobbler were heavenly. What can make this meal better? Washing it down with fresh brewed sweet tea! Perfect southern cooking meal. The service was spot on with a delightful southern flair. Drop the microphone.

Passing through on vacation and saw the Unilocal reviews. We were looking for good southern food and this place really came through! Fried chicken was some of the best we’ve had, service excellent & the owner– cook made sure to come by our table to check on us! Don’t forget to enjoy the cobbler before you leave!

We were passing through this area and looked up a good comfort food place in Forsyth, GA and found this on Unilocal. It looked like just what we wanted and it was! I had Fried Catfish, mac and cheese and my husband had Fried Chicken, okra and mashed potatoes. It was all homemade, freshly made as we ordered it and so good. It’s a small and very clean restaurant with some sweet ladies running it. And best of all we had Peach Cobbler and ice cream for dessert. OHMY! The best we’ve ever had. Don’t miss it.

Raised in the south, from a southern family, mother that cooked every night… THIS… is the best southern food I’ve EVER had. Everything from the collard greens, to the fried fish, to the smothered pork chops were incredible. Worth the visit!

Homecooked vittles priced a little bit high. My hamburger steak was definitely hand made and was a nice size. Great tasting sides — mac n cheese, peas and a roll. My wife was disappointed with her chicken fingers and said they tasted store bought but can’t confirm this. Limited menu and a lot of fried items. Priced in line with the big city and not a small town. The person that I assume was the owner was very nice but needed at least one more worker helping because the orders stacked up quickly. Overall positive experience. I’ll be back.

Very good, simple southern country food in an authentic small town setting. The fried chicken was very good, the Mac and Cheese scratch made. The owner/server was delightful! If you are traveling through this town during meal time, this place is worth checking out. Don’t let the humble exterior or interior deter you from eating here.

Great stop! Fried chicken was freshly fried and delicious, the pinto beans were some if the best I have had, and peach cobbler worth the trip! Friendly staff as well… it doesn’t look like much from the outside but it’s a step back into home cooking when you sit down.

Great fried chicken and macaroni and cheese! She made the fried chicken fresh when I ordered it. Sweet lady running the restaurant. Fun, small town diner feel. Makes you feel as if you are home.

This little old café has about 15 tables, and really does not look like much from the outside. But it’s very clean inside. If you like comfort food like Mom might make, you’ll love Country Cooking! I got a hamburger and amazingly it was freshly made — not a once-frozen disc. Probably one of the best I’ve had in years. One of the others in my party enjoyed the Special(Beef Tips with Rice) and the other ordered Fried Fish ‘n Shrimp. All served hot, all tasty and made to order. Nice generous portions. I recommend it and will definitely go back. So much better than the chains down the street!
