I would rather give them a 3 ½ but can’t. Love the organic and local aspect, it’s what I’m always hunting for and this place has it! Encouraging to find vegan options, the scramble comes loadded with veggies and they offer tofu. Coffee service was lacking, only offered a refill after our meals were finished. Also one of my biggest pet peeves: cold toast and frozen butter… Nothing bums me out more! They offer some great local organic hot sauce, you can try it with your meal and purchase a bottle to go.

Amazing organic lunch. Hippie hash is my favorite. I love supporting this local business. :)

Café One, you rock!!! Finally, I have had the pleasure to experience a restaurant in Mendocino county with such high standards to meet a culture and environment with the same standards. This restaurant serves breakfast and lunch with brunch on Sundays(the only day of the week where you can order Eggs Benedict and biscuits and gravy.) We were very pleased with the variety of organic breakfast options from omeletts and ‘Hippie Scrambles’ to divine waffles and granola. Their food is focused on organic, pesticide free and fresh!!! The food tastes so delicious! My fiancé and I both ordered the hippie scramble(his topped with cheddar cheese and a side of wheat toast, mine topped with feta cheese and a side of sourdough toast.) The only complaints I have is the feta I ordered was not feta, it tasted like some sort of gorgonzola or blue cheese crumbles(which I do not like.) Luckily there wasn’t much of it atop the scramble or I wouldn’t have eaten it. The waitress did a great job of labeling our to-go orders and making sure we had napkins, forks/spoons, butter and jam for our toast… yet I was missing jam for my sourdough toast! Also, my fiancé’s portion was quite a bit less than mine. Overall, I give Café One four stars for their excellent food, comfortable ambiance, organic menu, focus on detail and attentive, friendly staff. Clearly, the owners of this restaurant have worked hard to make this restaurant what it is… thank you! We will be back!

My wife and I were visiting Mendocino and this place was the best restaurant of the trip. We ordered the Huevos Diversadero(Rancheros) with tofu instead of eggs. The potatoes in the dish were well cooked, and the entire dish was very flavorful. Make sure you ask for hot sauce if you enjoy a bit of spice; we were given three different kinds to spice up the meal. Great value, fresh organic ingredients, and vegetarian friendly!

I had the turkey sausage omelette. It looks like they either steam the entire dish or microwave it. I didn’t see any char at all on the eggs, the sausages or the potatoes. Anyway, I just ate the egg part. The turkey sausage was inedible(to my taste). It smelled really gamey, maybe because it was not fresh or under seasoned. Two stars for good fresh squeezed OJ and good service.

I went for lunch and sat outside at the one table they have with my dog. I had the warm maggie with salmon. It wasn’t cheap but it was generous with warm grains, lots of greens and vegetables, almonds, miso dressing, beats, and green beans. The salmon was cooked well. I also had the iced green tea which was great.

The food is ok, a bit bland but healthy. The service can be extremely slow and somewhat unprofessional. The last few times the salad came out with veggies that were slimy and withered up, like they were cut a week ago and the cook thought I wouldn’t notice. When I complained they re-made it and I could see the freshness and was satisfied but disappointed that they had served me old yucky food to begin with. Good over all food, very pricey but supposedly organic.

It’s a café so there’s no host or real system for seating tables, so I waited about 10 minutes. Our server waved me over, but to my surprise was gesturing for another guest who was a regular. He asked if I was with her, I said no and i had been waiting longer. She was sat immediately after me and proceeded to talk bad a bout me loudly. Our server was inattentive. 15 minutes later the regular received her meal, we waited another 15 minutes for our food to arrive. Just as I was about to leave my 17 $ crab benedict arrived with over done eggs(it was sitting in the hit window«dying»). 30 minutes for a toasted English muffin, and 2 poached eggs. The food tasted good but I was very disappointed with the service.

Weird atmosphere sort of hippy diner meets local Mexican joint. Food was really good. Some of the best bacon I have had. Place moves very slowly just like everything in Ft Bragg.

Ehhh mixed review. My husband’s was great. He got the corned beef hash special and the aloha waffles. I got the groovy potatoes. They were edible. A little undercooked. They weren’t even made with all ingredients listed in description. I had to ask for them.

The food was good, but they serve the water with no ice due to it being in a little bucket I guess it is used sparingly. The restaurant was hot in need of better ventilation or AC. I noticed the front door and back screen door are left open to help, but this is why I was shooing the flies. I feel they need one or two more to help due to staff being very busy.

The food was good, but the service was seriously lacking. I have a hard time enjoying a meal when it takes 45 minutes to actually get my food. But I have to say, the tempeh ruben was absolutely delicious. The side salad came with chickpeas, radishes, pickled onions, and sesame seeds. Yum! However, it took 25 minutes to get an apple juice and we were served our food with no silverware(which then took another 5 minutes to be delivered to us). The staff just didn’t seem to have any sense of timeliness. They did have some unique items on the menu that I would love to try, but sitting at a breakfast restaurant for over an hour is just not my style. Unfortunately, I won’t be returning.
Food was very good and fresh. But they seemed very overwhelmed. It took a bit more than 30 minutes to get our food, and we had to ask for things like coffee/water several times before they finally would get them to us. Other guests seemed to be experiencing similar frustrations. My fiancé had the Hippie scramble which was very good and fresh. I had the omelet which was also fresh, but was not exceptional. We did end up buying a bottle of the hot sauce which was quite tasty.

Food was delicious, if the service was a little slow. The coffee was surprisingly tastey. I think this was a good deal for the price, and they’re right around the corner from the glass beach. They were pretty big on the organic and vegetarian stuff, and they may have had vegan options but you should call ahead to double check first. Pros: Good food, turkey and ham were the meat options, they could substitute almost every egg plate with tofu option, had ice cream and delicous soup. Cons: The coffee mug was a bit chewed up, and the service wasn’t bad but I think ‘hesitant’ would be a good descriptor.

I did not want to eat here. I was craving a burger, but the only place that sold burgers and was open was Jenny’s. But sitting in the parking lot of Jenny’s, it looked like they sold burgers with no personality or flavor. And I had the feeling that the ingredients would not be fresh. At 2:30 in Fort Bragg, there weren’t many other restaurants open either, so I drove to Café 1 because of the reviews. I parked in front and then I just sat there. From what I saw sitting in my car, it didn’t look like it was going to be much good. But I was starving and after weighing the reviews, I decided to give the restaurant a chance. Looking at the menu on the door, they only served breakfast and there was no meat other than chicken. I was actually surprised that they had any meat at all considering the other types of meals they offered.(I found out after I ate, that they did actually sell beef products as well… they had a «reuben» type sandwich as a special. Also, looking at the photos on Unilocal, one of the menus shows that they served a beef sandwich, though it wasn’t on my menu.) When I walked in, the place was old. It hadn’t been remodeled since the 80’s, including the bathroom. It looked as though it had been a diner that probably once sold very mediocre food. However, everything looked spotless. Though they don’t spend money on the atmosphere, they keep the place very clean. The diner did have kind of a hippie vibe as well. In fact, while I was there, two tables away sat three«fer real» hippies. Not old long hairs or modern day wannabe hippies, but actual hippies. As I waited to be seated, I was told by a server that they closed at 2:30 but that I could go ahead and order. I asked what time it was. He said 2:35. My reaction was«Very cool». Nobody serves food after the restaurant closes and some places won’t even seat you if you aren’t there at least 15 minutes before hand. There were no hours posted anywhere that I saw, and at the time, there were no hours posted on Unilocal, either. So I sat down and put on my thinking cap trying to figure out what I would be happy ordering(I was still craving the burger). I ordered one of the specials on the menu, which I believe, was the chicken omelette(it’s been a couple of weeks, but I remember it had chicken, egg and veggies). My food came super fast, which was a surprise considering that some of the reviews stated the service was very slow. Maybe my food probably came quickly because I was the only one ordering and that I had ordered after closing. My omelette was incredibly good. Every ingredient was fresh and the blend of ingredients was perfectly balanced. I usually hate eating anything avian for breakfast, save for their fetuses, but this was really good. I also want to note that the two servers were very friendly and attentive even though the restaurant was closed and they were busy cleaning. The restaurant and the food was a very pleasant surprise. I walked away satiated and happy. I do recommend«the hippie» Café 1 for breakfast.

SUMMARY: Lots of yummy stuff for all tastes and diets on the menu. Good service. Good value. Family friendly. We were first-timers here and we’ll definitely be back. Tried this place for the first time on a very busy, long holiday weekend(Valentine’s Day/President’s Day). We liked it so much, we came back the next day. And the next! I enjoyed my omlettes and my GF loved her various gluten-free items and eggs Benedict. We also ordered yummy lunch sandwiches to go and then we were set for the rest of the day. Located at the north end of FB, this a perfect place to eat if you’re spending the rest of the day up north. After our third breakfast here, I noticed there were other«regulars» — including several waiters we’d seen in restaurants for dinners earlier in the week. Definitely a local favorite, as well as a sure bet for tourists.

I get the«Hippie Scramble» whenever I eat here. It is absolutely delicious and wholesome! The price is right as well! My very picky significant other who is hard to please, really loves the food here too! If you are on the road and in this area I highly suggest eating here! You absolutely will not be sorry!!!

Nice place, we go there early, and were the only people, but it filled up really quickly. The single waitress was very busy, but didn’t seem overwhelmed — although our food did take a long time to come given that we where their first. They had soy for coffee, which was good, but like most breakfast places, the vegan options are somewhat limited. I had the hippy scramble, which was perectly fine, but there wasn’t a whole lot else on the menu which was ok, or appealing. No beer though. Probably best — it was too early.
