Very good! We took our order to go, the service was great. Everything we needed was included with our meal. Chowder amazing and very responsibly priced. Definitely worth the stop.

Meh. Fish was good, but hubby got a really small portion. Wings had strange flavor. Coleslaw was ok, almost sour. Fries were yum! Staff was not exactly friendly. A disappointment for our first stop in Ft Bragg. Should have looked at Unilocal reviews first. Haha

Seriously this place totally deserves 5 stars! The food is excellent, the environment is rustic yet clean, and the people who run this place are super nice! Came to FB for a weekend getaway and was craving some good clan chowder and was let down at some other restaurants this weekend but alas on our way out of town, stopped at The Q and their clan chowder is the bomb!(They had me convinced even before I tasted it considering the ample sprinkling of bacon on top!) It’s the best chowder in town in my opinion. Also had their Q sandwich with brisket and the meat and slaw were super flavorful, and well-balanced. You gotta stop here either on your way into or outta town!

Good place for BBQ. Restaurant wasn’t too busy when we visited on a Saturday evening. You place your order at the front desk and pick it up when it is ready. We had the salmon special with a choice of sides and also a combo meal with fish, ribs, and other meat with two sides. Note that the sweet beans is not vegetarian, but the chili is vegetarian. I received the wrong information from the cashier. My husband liked the ribs since the meat was tender. He usually doesn’t like to deal with bones. Tap water is available for a $.75 charge. Was surprised to hear the fee for water. Overall, we enjoyed the dinner, and the sauces on the table were delicious.

Our standards for BBQ are probably much higher than the locals considering we are from the South but it’s as good as any in Cali(that’s not saying much though). The pulled pork was just ok. It was obviously not fresh. It was in a puddle of water and chewy like it was a few days old. The Baked beans were more like bean soup. The flavor was good but the beans were way undercooked. Mac’n’cheese was kid tested and approved! Potato salad was fairly good. The pulled pork platter was considerably over priced for the serving size that didn’t include any breads. But the overall ticket for 2 adults and 2 kids was $ 36 and that pretty good for Cali.

We were vacationing in Mendocino and needed to grab dinner. Eating in Mendocino was a bit tough since the Unilocal reviews scared us away. Instead, we elected to go to this place given the good Unilocal reviews. After a short 11 minute scenic drive up Highway 1, you get to Fort Bragg. This place is an order up front, sit where there’s room type of deal. As a party of 8 on a Tuesday night, it wasn’t hard for us to find a seat. The place was practically empty. We ordered 2COMBOS and 2 chowders bowls($ 5) to share between the lot of us. The COMBOS came with 2 sides and, either Pork Spare Ribs or Meaty Beef Ribs, and 1 or 2 Q «Plates». Q «Plates» include your basic BBQ foods: pork shoulder, beef brisket, kielbasa sausage, shrimp, chicken, grilled veggies, rock fish.($ 20.50 for 1 Q «Plate» or $ 23.50 for 2 Q «Plate») items for your COMBO. It was surprising sufficient due to the fact that some in our party don’t eat much. We had lots of different choices, as is suitable for a good Southern BBQ place: SHRIMPONTHEBARBIE – large prawns cleaned and grilled to perfection. I’m a stickler for cleaned, peeled, and non-mushy shrimp. This place delivered. PORKSPARERIBS – they were OK and oddly tasted a bit like the honey-baked ham you eat during Thanksgiving, so I had mixed feelings about this one. MEATYBEEFRIBS – they were OK as well, nothing special. I prefer my beef a bit more raw, but nothing to complain about. ROASTEDCHICKEN – a bit on the dry side, but it was seasoned well and was sufficient. GRILLEDVEGETABLESKEWER – I’m not a veggie fan but all of the veggies – red pepper, zucchini, mushrooms, squash, were well cooked. MAC N CHEESE – definitely not Kraft, nice and thick, topped with cheese sprinkles. It was decent. GARLICTEXASTOASTSLICE – hard as a rock and not my cup of tea. They might consider toasting it a bit less, but it was well seasoned with garlic and oil. I don’t recommend getting this. CHOWDER – thick and creamy just as I like it. I’ve had one too many watered down chowder nonsense in the past so this was satisfying. I highly recommend getting this. SAUCES – they had three bottles of sauces for you to try. The best was the Memphis Sweet. I love sugar, so nothing can beat a good honey sweet sauce. The Spicy Hot was all right. But the Caroline Tangy was a bit odd so I didn’t touch it again. I think there was a hint of Tabasco and I’m not really a fan of that. Bottom Line: This place is OK. Chowder was decent. Mac and Cheese was pretty good. The meats could be a bit softer and it was different from the Southern BBQ food that I’m used to, but it’s worth a shot if you’re up near Fort Bragg or Mendocino.

I got the pulled pork sandwich. It was great . I love that is is pilled mile high with cole slaw. Sauces are great. I like that you get the choices. 3 sauces. Meat was flavorful and cooked to my liking. My only complaint is that it was a little cold. Other wise amazing.

The service was friendly and quick. The mac and cheese had a huge pool of grease which was nasty, but it WAS cheesy. I added hit sauce to it and it was great. The coslaw was fresh and crunchy, the best! The bbq was good, ribs were greasy and the chicken was half cold. The brisket was a little dry, but it was flavorful. Overall all of the sauces were great. I would come back, but I think I’ll try the pulled pork. That is what everyone else ordered.

Great find in Fort Bragg. Delicious food, although not gluten free, you can order anything without bread. Bathrooms are clean, service is fast, fries are homemade. The ocean is right across the street… perfect.

Stopped by when driving into Fort Bragg for a quick visit to Glass Beach. It’s a quaint little shack with boar heads and cow skulls hanging on the wall, with about 12 tables in a covered, enclosed patio with heaters, and 4 – 5 tables inside by the counter. I ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich, and for $ 2 more, got a can of Pepsi with a side of Mac N Cheese. The sandwich came with coleslaw(pink!) piled high inside the bun, and had a little of(I believe) the Carolina Tangy sauce already on it. They’ve got 3 sauces on the tables that you can squirt on. I did a nice mixture of all 3(indecisiveness at its finest!). That Mac N Cheese though. Holy moly. It was so good — almost like the cheese sauce had a white sauce(flour-based) at its core to make it nice and thick and peppery. Mmm mm! Thank you, come again? Yeah, I’d stop by again if we’re back in the area.

My bf and I went to the Q and I’ve been there previously with positive experiences. He absolutely loved the hot bbq sauce and the pulled pork! He’s not easy to please when it comes to BBQ too!

We passed this place heading north into Fort Bragg and had to stop on the way back out. I’m so glad we did! We had the ribs and«The Q» with mac n’ cheese and cornbread. Incredibly delicious and flavorful(my bf commented on the pro smoke ring on the rib meat). OMG the mac n’ cheese!!! We sat on the enclosed porch under a heat lamp and it was perfect(even for me, and I’m highly sensitive to cold). We ordered a full rack, pint o’ mac, and brisket to take with us for dinner after the long drive home. YUM!!!

We must have passed this place a million times while visiting Fort Bragg, but nothing ever screamed out for us to want to try this place. We ventured to the Noyo Harbor, looking for a lunch spot and somehow, everything seemed crowded, so we headed up the hill, to the main drag in town. Although it looked a little sketchy, I suggested that we try out The Q. Inside it’s an order and pay-at-the-counter type of spot. The menu has a variety of both BBQ and some seafood choices. I opted for the brisket with a side of mac and cheese. The brisket was moist and tender, just as I appreciate good BBQ to taste. The sauces on the table paired nicely with my meal. The mac and cheese was flavorful but a bit dry. My son had grilled shrimp, which he said was tasty and satisfying. My husband opted for the fish and chips which was blackened, not fried and he really enjoyed his dish. My son’s friend had the pulled pork sandwich and for being a picky eater, he said it was very good. While eating lunch, in the nearby field, we saw two deer wandering around and grazing. It was a nice additive. Lunch for the four of us, drinks included was around $ 50, but I felt like we got satisfying meals and some bang for our buck. We will definitely be back.

We grabbed take out to bring back to our hotel room. The gal who took our order was quick and friendly. We shared a two item combo and added a couple of additional sides. It was the perfect amount of food for the two of us. The baby back ribs peeled right off the bone and the sauces were each unique and delicious. The chicken was moist and flavorful. The Mac and cheese had a perfect homemade taste, creamy and gooey with pasta that wasn’t mushy. We also tried the fries, potato salad and bbq beans. My least favorite item was the potato salad only because it wasn’t the type I like, it was an herbed mustard heavy version, while I prefer a classic picnic style with hard boiled eggs. The salad was tasty and the potatoes cooked well.

First time to try this place today. I gotta say me and my fiancée have never eaten so much in one sitting. half a rack of beef ribs, pork ribs, slaw, corn bread, onion rings, 16 oysters, coke and ice tea! Everything was really good!!! We would definitely come back here next time we’re in town! Oh yeah, freddy and jason, yup that’s their names, were really great! Keep up the great work and we can’t wait to come back again!!! :)

The Q is right off the road in what looks like an old Dairy Queen. It is pretty sweet that there is BBQ in Fort Bragg. I was impressed with the sauces on the table to accompany the bbq meats and sandos. I had the blackened fish sando and it was tasty. I actually didn’t get any of the bbq but it smelled good. Does that count? Probably not. SO this is not a review for the meats. I would skip the chowder unless you like super creamy chowder with bacon. Don’t get me wrong bacon is everyones friend. In this case the cream takes the over and the bacon is lost. Can you imagine a dish where you can’t taste the bacon. Well try… Yup that is what this was creamy clam chowder with lots of cream. Did I mention it has a lot of cream in it. Well it does.

Well, the absolute best food in Fort Bragg and Tara, cashier, made our visit memorable. Seriously, before I get into the actual review of the food, Tara performed the best customer service I have seen in a long time and I work in the customer service industry. Don’t lose Tara, give her a bonus or a raise, she creates return business. I will be back to eat there because of her customer service, well and for the delicious food, hat off to the cook. Great taste. Now to the review of the food. There were 4 of us and ordered 3 boar burgers, brisket, onion rings, fries, baked beans, bread pudding, corn bread, and a sampler platter of oysters. Btw manager and owner, Tara was so fun talking to, we ended up ordering two of your hats. So we decided to eat our food at home and I wish we didn’t because we would bought something else, so good. The coleslaw on the boar burgers were outstanding. I don’t like oysters but my wife said they were the best she ever ate. Oh Ya btw, we ordered our burgers medium and they were actually medium, thank you cook. I will definitely push as much business to The Q as I can and visit it every time I visit Fort Bragg. Thank you Tara.

Do NOT leave Fort Bragg without stopping at The Q. I ordered the blackened rockfish and it was absolutely the best fish and chips dish I have ever had. Everyone surrounding me at my table agreed. The slaw was just blah, but the mac and cheese was thick, creamy, and even a little spicy. You order at the front desk and they deliver it to you. The service was friendly and fast. They have a decent beer selection and it’s reasonably priced. They are very accommodating for large groups and it’s easy to split tabs because everything is ordered separately. Love this place!
