A Matter of Time

I would not recommend A Matter of Time to a friend. I wish the other review had been up when I was looking for a watch repair shop. I think I have to take my watch to get worked on by another shop, because I feel like I can’t trust the work that has been done on it (and it now leaks– see below). Rex Foster is the owner (only technician?) of the shop (which is now located near JoAnn Fabrics); I’m not sure who «Carlos» is from the first review.
Pros: Mr. Foster was a friendly guy who was happy to try to get my watch working again under his warranty policy.
Cons: The watch still lost time after he performed an overhaul. The minute hand was «loose» and would move up to 3 minutes back and forth. It didn’t shift as much when I got it back the second time, but it did still seem «loose.» Maybe that’s how it is supposed to be, though, so I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.
Mr. Foster had a poor sense of how long a repair would take. If it is going to take a week, that’s fine, please say so. Don’t tell me «tomorrow» only to tell me «tomorrow» again the next day for a week.
My watch band now reeks of cigarette smoke.
The caseback wasn’t screwed on all the way when it was returned to me, causing the battery to fall out of place and the watch to stop. I probably should have taken it back at this point to make sure it was screwed on properly, but I didn’t want to bother trying to work with Mr. Foster again so I screwed it on myself.
Moisture appeared inside the crystal after showering (my watch should be water resistant to 100m). Maybe I didn’t screw the caseback on correctly, but it certainly would have leaked worse if I had showered with it in the condition that I received it.

I’d been searching for a watch repair guy for a while. I had a few watches that needed new batteries and some that needed service.
Carlos replaced my two watch batteries no problem, while I waited. One of the broken watches he fixed within 1 business day, the other two he wasn’t able to, but one watch was a expensive watch that could only be serviced by the manufacturer. The other he referred me to another watch repair place that could fix it.
Very friendly and polite, will patronize again when I need a battery replaced or another minor repair.
$ 10 for a battery replacement is a good deal.
