Big Bear’s Bus Café drove(literally) into Fort Collins at the beginning of July and parked next to Copoco’s Honey on North College. Owners Jeremiah and Anna Luce and kids traveled across the country from Maryland in a school bus converted into a café. There are 100-year-old church pews for seating, funky décor with license plates lining the ceiling and vinyl records on the walls. Jam band music plays while you eat(we listened to Jack Johnson, Phish and some reggae while noshing). Not only is it a traveling café, but it runs on vegetable oil and solar power. They don’t stop there with the eco-love. They are also involved in a meal for a meal, food sharing program. When you buy a meal they buy one for someone else in a third world country. They think outside the box when it comes to services, like catering. They offer to cater mountain trips and festivals, or are willing to drive you around pub hopping, calling it a «veggie-powered taxi restaurant service.» They are also willing to do public speaking and demonstrations on using vegetable oil as fuel and other socially-aware business practices. While eating here, I got the warm fuzzies. I totally support them and wish there were more cafes/restaurants/food carts like this in Fort Collins. It’s just a happy place to me and they are doing exceptionally good things. If they upped the ante and increased the creativity and quality of the food, they would be out of this world.
