Man, I feel like a heel only giving Matter Bookstore four stars instead of five like everyone else has but that is the way it goes. I gave them a higher rating than I would have because they are a non-profit merchant and the proceeds go to help literacy for children. The Matter Bookstore is relatively small and is located in the same area as The Bean Cycle coffee shop. There is two stories if you want to call it that of books. Much of the fictional books are upstairs while the rest is mainly comprised of non-fiction. The Matter bookstore sells used books and has many different categories of topics that you can explore which is great. I was looking to see if they had any books by Christopher Moore and while the volunteer was eager to help me to see if they had any of his books, she didn’t really seem to know who I was referring to. She helped me the best she could but alas they had no books by this author. She said that they could special order any book by him that I wanted but I really wasn’t looking for a specific title, just curious to see what they had. At one point and time the volunteer got a little frustrated I think because she noticed several books were not in their proper genre. I don’t know if the customers are to blame for that one or the other volunteers but she said it happens quite a bit. While I didn’t find anything that I wanted on my first visit to Matter Bookstore I would recommend to everyone out there who are bookstore lovers to go in and check the place out. They are there for a good cause, and get some coffee while you are at it!

Awesome little bookstore full of great titles. I was in green reading heaven. Books on horticulture, biodynamic gardening, homesteading, brewing… it was amazing. I could have spent all day perusing the little alcoves, not to mention a small fortune on all the great books i found. Luckily, i escaped with only a minor dent in my wallet and a couple new books I had to find room in my suitcase for!

Awesome selection of progressive-lifestyle books. Organic gardening, feminism, LGBT issues, and all kinds of other community activism books plus literature. This is the kind of bookstore where you find a perfect book for almost everyone you know… your best friend who loves photography, your ex who has major problems, your neighbor who raises chickens. They also don’t judge you for just flipping through books without purchasing. Grab some tea or coffee at the café, browse, and leave with a book for yourself and a great book for a friend.
