Texas Carpet Baggers

Texas Carpet Baggers is a small custom/​made-​to-​order bag business, but its proprietor Becky would not honor an order agreement with me when the bag sent was not as requested.
My only request was a specific pattern section and placement from a large repeating embossed design. I indicated a photo of another bag on her own website as a guide – its lower section covered about the same area as the size bag I chose. I asked for that same pattern on both sides of the bag as well and Becky replied by email: «I can do everything» requested. When I received it, neither side had that pattern section. When I explained my disappointment, she first replied that I now would need to purchase another larger bag in order to have that pattern section. (??!) I wrote that I was not looking to make another purchase, only to have the bag as ordered already! Becky then insisted that the pattern placement was correct on the one sent (it wasn’t even close). That did not make sense to me. She claimed that asking for «both» sides the same was «never mentioned». I then resent the content of my original email request and her response that it could be done. (Prior emails were already there in the thread.) She replied that I was correct and asked that I send it back for a full refund and that would conclude our business. She refused to redo the bag, which is what I asked for, not a refund. (I offered to send photos but she was not interested.)
After the bag was delivered back to Becky, I called to clarify what I thought might be a misunderstanding and salvage the transaction but was met with the same attitude as her emails: her tone was rather rude and said she wanted to cut her losses. She reiterated there was no mistake, insisting that the pattern was correct to what was asked for and was «literally only two inches off». (No, it was a completely different part of the pattern: a two inch difference would only push a pattern slightly off-​center. Also, each side was very different from each other –how could it be only a few inches off?) She wouldn’t redo the bag because, according to her, I «would always go around finding something wrong with it whenever I see it». Why would I if it were done as agreed? At one point Becky snapped, «I’m a bag maker!» for no apparent reason and hoped I can find another shop that will «meet my needs». Yes, because who wants defensiveness and drama from someone you’re buying a bag from.
I chose the pattern placed that way because it had nostalgic connotations for me and would make the item my own, which is the point of a made-​to-​order bag shop I thought. I have purchased within the past year bags/​accessories from other small handmade shops – two on the West Coast, and one in my home state of New York: I asked for a particular printed fabric placement from that one and it was done correctly, cheerfully.
In my experience, if Texas Carpet Baggers makes a mistake with an order it will not redo/​replace the item if preferred, then double down that the customer is in error and your time will be wasted. The returned bag can be resold in the shop. Usually merchants don’t refund return shipping too unless it’s their error and I received a refund for all my shipping costs.
