The Book Ranch

I arrived in town and was in need of a vibrator (as one often is…)! After some internet searches, I came across the book ranch. While the initial concept of the booths in the back was a little sketch, I decided to give it a try all the same.
All my misconceptions were completely displaced as soon as I walked in the door! This little sex shop is well lit, clean, and friendly! I found a wide selection of vibrators and other toys despite their small space, and the guy working the counter was knowledgable and made me feel very comfortable. He even turned on a few of the vibrators I was interested in so that I could make a knowledgable purchase. The back room booths didn’t even register, so don’t be intimidated by them!

Because of its inherent creepiness I wouldn’t have normally reviewed such an establishment, but I was surprised at how clean, organized, and well-​lit it was on the inside. There is a large bottle of hand sanitizer at the counter, but I’m still glad that it was winter and I was wearing gloves when I entered the store.
I had a family (very far extended family) white elephant gift exchange and I needed something fun and provocative that cost around $ 10. I checked Dr. John’s first, because it is far less creepy/​shady-​looking than this place, but all of their adult products were crazy expensive, like $ 10+ per inch crazy.
The Book Ranch (I shudder a bit typing the name of this place) had much cheaper versions of all the products at Dr. John’s. The friendly tattooed man working at the cash register was happy to recommend the buttplug over the black dong for the gift exchange. The large buttplug was too robust, the small one was downright unimpressive, but the medium one was just right. It ended up being a hit at the holiday party. Grandma really loved her new paper weight!

Ah! The Book Ranch! Don’t let the name fool you as to what this place really is. It is an adult novelty shop. It is far from a book store in a conventional sense but don’t hold that against it. Sex is good!
The Book Ranch has been around as long as I can remember. My cousin first went here and went to the adult arcades and watched adult films with a friend. He could hardly control his outburst of laughter as the loud sounding projector drowned out any sound that may have been coming from the amateur… ahem… film.
He made the whole experience sound quite scandalous. So for many years I did not go into the Book Ranch. After all I looked up to my cousin… he was like a big brother to me. Many… MANY years passed and I became more worldly after experiencing earthly delights in bigger cities that I inhabited and visited. I became quite desensitized to the whole thing of being shocked. Very little shocked me that much anymore.
So after moving back to the bedroom community of Fort Collins I still didn’t go in there. The lingering comments of what my cousin said still hung to the back of my mind.
Finally I decided to go in there and take a look. The inside of the place is very clean and orderly and the salesperson was quite nice. Although the place is geared mainly towards straight people there is also merchandise that is accessible for the gay crowd as well. Even Denver’s gay rag, the Out Front could be picked up here which is relatively hard to find here in Fort Collins.
I did not partake the arcades… I just was never into them very much. Who knows what happened there before. Nope! Don’t wanna think about it! Still the only skeezy thing that seemed to be going on in the Book Ranch was the clientele. One guy was trying to sell burritos to the salesperson and to my partner and me. Uh. Where has his burritos been? We politely declined. Still the Book Ranch was not nearly as shocking as my brain and the hype wanted to tell me. I have been in far… far sleazier places.
Again don’t be tricked by the name… some of our friend’s parents wanted to go in there and book shop… not having a clue as to what laid inside.
The Book Ranch is fairly small but it is loaded with naughty merchandise and if you are into kinky boots they do have some and I believe that you can order more through a catalog with the salesperson.
I can’t believe that I am the only one who is posting a review for this place. Too timid Fort Collins? Give it a try, stop being discreet! Sex is good! If nothing else it can be hilarious! LOL!
