Haven Hotel

This is another classic dive hotel. The bonus with this one is they have continental breakfast in the morning. Our room had a little bit of an odor, bed wasnt super comfy, and it’s price was still high. Right behind it is another dive motel that gives you a comfy bed if you wanted to compare prices. Really close to the airport and Port Everglades with rental car companies right by.

I really wanted to like this place, because the guy who checked us in was so nice. BUT, it’s gross. I don’t even judge it for the neighborhood, which is mixed but mostly rough. You can run a tight business in a dodgy neighborhood. No, I judge it for the brown gunk on the bathroom wall, dirty floors, shower that doesn’t drain, toilet that won’t flush (despite plunging and talking to the front desk), and roach that ran across our bed on the last morning. Also, only replacing linens one out of the two nights we were there without a stated policy regarding laundry frequency. Going back to the bit about the neighborhood being dodgy, the person who checked us in said it’s actually pretty safe. I believe him but was not too thrilled about what people were up to in their car in the motel parking lot. I won’t go into details, but it’s a sign that people consider this a safe place to go about their business without being disturbed. Thus, no security and not much staff presence at night. We were told the office would be open 24 hrs, but there was no one there in the morning to check us out. It’s our fault for not calling to wake them up, I guess. It’s very convenient to the airport, and there are lots of amenities nearby, but they need to hire 1 – 2 extra staff to cover odd hours, bring in the exterminator and the plumber, and wash the whole place down really well. After that it might be a perfectly fine place to stay.
