Being born and raised in The Bahamas has instilled some weird notions of dentists in me. For one, dental insurance does not exist, therefore dentists need to keep their costs low to get people in the door… which means most of the dental offices are your standard no frills places. Don’t get me wrong, they get the job done and everything is handled professionally, you just won’t be looking at any orchids while getting your teeth drilled. So naturally, this is how I judge my dentists here lol. The more orchids in the waiting room, the more BS charges I assume they’ll be adding on, and getting lied to about imaginary cavities just isn’t for me lol. I’ve had the same dentist for quite some time now, but alas insurance changes at work meant dentist switching. I did my research and selected Dr. Patel purely based on the fact he was close to my office and not in a very fancy strip mall. I was able to make my initial appointment with ease and was pleased when the actual day came and I was in and out quickly. As with any new dentist x-rays were taken, but seemed to be quite minimal. I was also pleased with the digital x-ray machine, which meant I never moved from my chair, and x-rays were displayed immediately on a giant tv screen in front of me. After a quick look around my mouth Dr. Patel gave me the A-OK and scheduled me to come back for a cleaning. CLEANING Came back for my cleaning… and was a little surprised when Dr. Patel himself started to work on my teeth instead of the hygienist(who helped by holding the suction tube). But Dr. Patel only did the«water pick»(I’m guessing at the dental terminology) and then handed things over to the hygienist. She got to work polishing my teeth and then I was done. The whole thing took about 7 minutes, pretty sure I waited longer in the waiting room lol. I’m still bewildered over the whole thing. Are my teeth extra clean and that’s all the needed? Or is this the standard cleaning here? I’m used to much more scraping, flossing, wondering if the hygienist is paying attention to the water I’m about to choke on, panicking over why they don’t seem to be using the suction tool properly lol etc. I guess I shouldn’t complain, but I’m knocking off a star for this cleaning which seemed too fast. I guess overall I’m «happy» with the treatment here. A bit quick and lacking perhaps, but fine for someone like me with great teeth.
