Great anchor spot to hang out for the day on your boat! Swimming, wading, BBQing, drinking, making friends, having a great time! Can’t wait to go back! Only bummer, it seems there is no where in the general area including this spot where boaters can stay the night or a weekend at anchor.

No, the New River/Intracoastal Waterway Sandbar isn’t a bar, you can’t buy a drink here, there is no wait staff, there aren’t any fees or charges and if you want to enjoy it, you’re going to get wet because it’s nothing more than submerged pile of underwater sand along the Intracoastal Waterway. However, it is local favorite and one of the premier weekend hangouts where locals go to swim, wade, do barbecues aboard their boats, hoot, holler, drink and party it up. Since you have to designate a street address on Unilocal,I’ve given a close street address but if you’re going to get here, the only way to do it is by boat. Now at first you may think that’s bad, but actually that’s what’s so good about as it’s a lot more fun being boat only, and though it gets jammed, it doesn’t get overrun. Also though well known to the locals, generally unknown to tourists. We locals, especially we local boaters generally like to keep places like this under wraps, not letting everyone in our secret fun spots, but since Foursquares and others have posted about it( ), our cover up of this bucolic water spot has pretty much been blown away. And, one good reason I’m posting it is that we good Unilocalers never want to be outdone by «Squareheads;» meaning those who write and use single sentence reviews on Apps like Foursquare. The New River/Intracoastal Waterway sandbar is easily spotted by the navigational shallow water warnings posted at the confluence or juncture of the New River and the Intracoastal Waterway. In size and general description it is similar to the Haulover Sandbar for which there is a Unilocal posting( ), but less crowded since, because of its distance from Miami, doesn’t attract the larger Miami crowd. If you like great parties, like to meet fun people or have kids who like the water, you’ll find yourself quickly falling in love with the New River/Intracoastal Waterway sandbar.
