Ate here while visiting Fort Lauderdale. Fried catfish was really good and so was the Mac and cheese. Ribs weren’t bad either. I’d go back when in town.

Totally legit bbq. Went here based on the Unilocal rating. The food confirmed it. The locals love this place as it was non stop. No table service. No alcohol. No problem.

So I been randomly coming to this place for at least 5 years & with the increased in customers, they need a better way to get customers in & out the door. Seems to be a conflict on the fast speed of pickup vs. us walk in customers. 44 mins today. And the restroom needs a major facelift. Hands Down The Best Ribs &BBQ Sauce in Florida. Great Customer Service! And Highly Affordable Prices!

Really nice, cool little place. Surprisingly clean on the inside when judging how it looks on the outside. Wasn’t busy until after we left. We got our orders very quickly, and we new it was too good to be true after reading reviews about long waits. It was very good, but tasted as if it had come off the grill before we arrived. I think it’s better for lunch if you can get it fresh to avoid the rush and wait, but if your feeling BBQ, then it’s surely worth a little taste.

Just stopped at Tom Jenkins Barbecue on the way home from work been there about 6 times unfortunately I don’t think I’m going back. These guys must still be on vacation because I ordered a chicken sandwich Fry’s and collard greens, collard greens were great fries were sparse and the chicken sandwich was absolutely not there when I opened it when I got home I found 3 little pieces of chicken that barely covered the bun they must have just ran out or something very disappointing then almost $ 12 and I’m starving still and I’m not a big eater. Maybe it was just a fluke but I’m not a big eater and I’m still hungry.

You smell the hickory coming in, enjoy the ribs, partake in the ambiance. You realize you’re in the USA and proud of the fact that places like this are in your own backyard

Ordered two meat combo pork and spare ribs with a side of mac and cheese and beans. Order comes with homemade BBQ sauce and cornbread. I had to wait 10 – 15 minutes for my food but worth the wait. The spare ribs were fall off the bone good. BBQ sauce was a little spicy but robust and flavorful. Mac and cheese was very creamy and the beans were alright. Cornbread was very good, not dry but also not too sweet. Sometimes corn bread tastes like dessert. At Tom Jenkins they found the proper balance. My only complaint was the pork. Tasted good but was pretty dry. If I didn’t layer BBQ all over it I wouldn’t have been able to swallow it. Overall it was a good BBQ joint but I’ve definitely had better.

Tom Jenkins B-B-Q is flipping delicious, if you say otherwise there is something wrong with your mouth. The BBQ sauce is savory the meats have always been perfect! The place gets busy and you have to wait for a seat from time to time, but it is worth it. If you get your food to go, don’t wait to get home to eat… Eat that food right there in the parking lot. Just thinking about the Ribs, Chicken, Beef Brisket, Pork, Mac & Cheese… I’m out. I’m going there today.

The best collard greens in the state of Florida. BBQ is amazing — the sauce is magical. They’re always hella busy but always worth the wait.

What an incredible lunch! Found this gem on Unilocal while staying in ft Lauderdale this week. The smell outside the restaurant of smoking meats is awesome! If its your first time, dont be intimidated. Its a loud fast paced ordering process, but its a lot of fun too. Study the menu before you’re on deck. I had the brisket dinner with mac and cheese. Absolutely awesome! Plenty of food and great value. After i left, i noticed my rental car smelled like smoked meat, Love It!!!

Y’all know I’m extremely stingy with my stars and this place gets all 5. This place smokes there meat perfectly. I had the baby backs, chopped pork, and some hot sausage all the meat was perfectly cooked! Better get there early I got there around 6:45 p.m. had to wait in line and by 7:30 a place was out of baby backs, onion rings, and they had three or four order is left of pork ribs. You do have to wait in line, place your order, and then you can either eat in or take out so be prepared to wait… it’s well worth it. There was One reviewer recently and I read his review. He had eaten in some of the same states I’ve eaten in so I figured he gets it so I better try this place. Definately go there… Rock on!

Went here for the first time this week and was extremely excited after reading some of the reviews and hearing great things about this place. The minute you pull up in the parking lot you can smell that great mouth watering barbecue smell. We ordered ribs, chicken, pork, mac & cheese & baked beans. I must admit I’m in love with their sides. The mac & cheese and baked beans were absolutely delicious! The meat however was much greasier than I would’ve liked. Personally, it’s a turnoff to me when I see a puddle of grease at the bottom of the container. I rate my barbecue the same way I rate my steaks. If I need to put sauce on it in order to eat it I’m not impressed. And that was the case with Tom Jenkins. Although the barbecue sauce they give you tastes great, the meats all tasted pretty bland to me. Had I not had the sauce, there’s no way I would’ve eaten it. Unfortunately I could tell I didn’t get the freshest batch. We ordered to go and had to re-heat our food when we got home(approx 10 minutes drive) which was extremely disappointing. I give them between 2.5 and 3 stars. I have no interest in trying them again, unless it’s just to pick up some sides.

I’ve had BBQ in TN, TX, VA, NY, CA, MA and FL and this place is by far my #1. Seriously. Wow. I visit family in this area and so come here as often as I can and from the ribs, the pulled pork, the sides(potato salad, collard greens especially) and their peach cobbler, it is all VERY good. It’s so rare to find a BBQ place that does everything well, but they sincerely do. All for a great price and just the right portions. As far as service goes, it’s an order and pick up your food restaurant, so not much to it from that perspective. My only gripe is that they’re closed on Sundays, my favorite day for BBQ.

A friend who works near by took me to this popular barbecue restaurant in Fort Lauderdale. I have to say I don’t think Miami has anything to compare. It’s definitely better than Shorty’s. I had the combination barbecue chicken and baby back ribs and they were very tender. It was the lunch portion and might have left a person with a bigger appetite wanting more. This is an authentic barbecue joint. It’s small and my friend tells me they often run out of various items if you don’t go early for lunch. Also people lined up after noon so if you’re on a time schedule it’s best to arrive a bit before.

While I haven’t been to Memphis or Kansas City(yet), this was easily some of the best BBQ I’ve ever had in South Florida. When you see(and smell) the awesomeness happening from behind the restaurant when you park, you know you’re going to be in for a treat. It might be a little dark on the inside, and it might be few more calories than you were planning for, but as far as authenticity this has to be the most spot on BBQ place I’ve been to down here. You will not be disappointed as evidence by the amazing reviews on here & the line you can often find waiting outside the door!

Anyone that lives in S. Florida and loves comfort food, or just old fashioned Southern Style Cooking, knows about Tom Jenkins BBQ. It was always a special occasion to make the drive there and pig out! It’s like being at a picnic only indoors without the ants. I can’t say enough about the delicious taste. I’ve never had a meal I didn’t enjoy. I always dream about and crave the food afterward! If you love ribs(and Southern Sides to go with them) give it a try when you’re in the area. Be prepared to wait in line if you don’t get there early! I guarantee you will not be disappointed! I highly recommend!

Thank you. First BBQ experience upon moving to Florida. Plenty of food, actually smoked ribs and items. A real southern experience. Made me happy I had moved to the area. Communal seating at the park benches in the dining area. Friendly customers willing to talk and share their experiences while the line for food seems to never end. Portions are decent sized and the selection is good. I met a couple that claims to drive 15 miles from west Boca to dine here on regular occasion. I can understand why.

Is it «as good as it gets» in the whole United States? Not necessarily, but Tom Jenkins BBQ in Fort Lauderdale is as good as it gets in South Florida The fried fish was my favorite. It had a nice crunch from the cornmeal and wasn’t greasy at all. Just juicy fish. We recently tried fried fish from a «seafood company» and Tom Jenkins’ fried fish was significantly tastier. The ribs come pre-cut which is handy and they have the best slow cooked/smoky flavored ribs I’ve had here in Florida so far. The sauce is served separately in a cup and the ribs are a bit drier or leaner so you can really taste the meat without being overwhelmed with sauce or fattiness. The portion looked small initially, but combined with the sides I had enough for dinner and lunch the next day. The other two meat combo, $ 14.99, was also delicious. The spicy sausage and chopped beef were so good. The combo comes with two sides. The fries were crispy but nothing special. The collard greens were a bit too sugary for me. Loved my $ 1 order of hush puppies. They were crispy as expected. They forgot to give me the ribs, so check your food. I went back to the cashier and while she was skeptical at first, she checked the receipt and realized it was the kitchen’s mistake. She yelled at them. It made for good entertainment. When I’m in the area again, I’ll definitely head to Tom Jenkins BBQ. Tips– The wait to order or the wait to find a seat can be long. Limited seating. While we did eat in, a lot of people primarily took their food to go. There are about 5 benches and some seating that wraps around a corner of the restaurant. If you’re waiting for a «to go» order, please kindly do not take up a table where others could eat instead. Focus on the delicious smoked flavor. The whole place smells like smoky goodness and so will your clothes and hair :)

I’ve only dined at this restaurant a couple of times, and every time I leave the restaurant completely satisfied and stuffed. The best deal yet is the dinner combination, which comes with your choice of meat, corn bread, and two sides. So far, I’ve tried the chopped pork, chopped beef brisket, and the baby back ribs. Out of those meats, my number one pick is the chopped beef brisket. The only downside about the chopped pork and the choose beef brisket — is the amount of fat that’s served in your styrofoam container. It’s not all fat, but I tend to pick out the fat before I dig in. One tip — the chopped beef brisket tends to sell out quickly, so be sure to go early. My two favorite side items are the potato salad and the macaroni and cheese. I’ve had other side items such as the French fries and the baked beans, but the potato salad and macaroni and cheese are my favorite. While your dining at Tom Jenkins, you should order the sweet tea. It’s deliciously sweet. Overall: The food is delicious. I’d say the meat is great but the sides are pretty average. The service can sometimes be slow. The prices are pretty reasonable.
