I think you have to know what to buy here: i was on an exploration, since there ar eno ‘WINN Dixie’s in LA that i know of and I found the clerks, especially Narisa to be very helpful and accommodating. They have a large supply of canned sardines(!)and the fresh celery was so good it practically talked back to me! I did not go to the Publix around the corner, as i was very happy with my ‘bargains.’

Totally unbelievable… I decide to purchase a bag of dog treats mainly because it had in huge lettering stating it was made in the USA. I take this along with other items and proceed to check out. There are two tellers working and one bag girl. There were three people in line combined. My teller scanned the dog treats reference earlier and nothing rang up. He asked me did I know how much it was and I said honestly I did not notice. Remember the USA thing. Then he asked the teller next to him what he should do and her unbelievable response was…“well if it doesn’t ring up we should not be selling it”. Really… are these the types of people representing you? As I saw it the bag girl could have easily walked down the aisle to check as the register was on the same aisle. I totally understand why your parking lot is so vacant and Publix seems to always be full. Your employees are your worst enemies.

Bought packaged fresh salmon and tuna, cooked them, gave me diarrhea an hour after eating them.

This store occupies middle ground between chain drugstore and mega supermarket. The type of place we all shopped in the 80s. Winn-Dixie is my go-to at the end of the street when I want to get it and out without walking a mile through the Publix on the other end of Cordova. Nothing impressive here. Sometimes that’s not what it’s about, though. Go here for fast, convenient shopping sans the high prices and small selection at the chain drugstores. The staff is friendly and rarely unprofessional.

Winn Dixie’s motto used to be something like«You can’t beat our meat.» Well, since I’m sure you already know my thoughts, perverted as they may be about that, I best not touch upon it. What I will say is that this particular store is really antiquated, rather run down and in serious need of some sprucing up. It’s a big store but the displays, particularly their meats seem to me somewhat of a jumble, certainly not as pretty, neat or as organized as their nearby Publix competitor. The parking area is ample but having stopped by here on several occasions, most only to restock my boat with beer when docked at nearby Southport Raw Bar for lunch, it always seems that somebody is there working on a broken down car or there with a begging hand and a hard luck story to tell you. The two good things I can say about the store is that their«Beer Town» section is good and their prices are also rather decent. However, since I’ve seen much better displays in much more updated as well as classier environment, the best I can go on this store is Two Stars. It’s ok for buying beer here when you are desperate but for food shopping, there are better choices.

for some reason they removed the self serve registers, but I still love it.

A general supermarket off of the busy 17th Street corridor, Winn Dixie has been supporting the local community for many years. The outside could use a little sprucing up — the parking lot is rather inefficient and the signage could use an update. However, the produce is fresh, prices are reasonable, and selection is great. There were plenty of staff around at check out and the store layout is logical. Winn Dixie should be able to cover most of your needs.

A little disorganized for my taste as I am a Publix fan when I am in Florida– but I have to say– this store has the friendliest staff around. I wandered in one night looking for bottled water and some fruit. Not only did the guy stocking shelves point me in the right direction– he personally walked me over to the aisle and made sure I had found what I was looking for. Now granted it was 10:30 at night and there weren’t many people in the store, but who does that? And when I couple that with another visit later in the week and I was remembered by this same employee? Well– that my friends is customer service!(that or he had some kind of weird crush on me! Ha!) I still can’t figure out how this store is organized, but the prices are reasonable, the store is clean and if you ask– you will surely find anything that you are looking for. .. .maybe with a personal escort as well!

I’m normally a Publix guy, but as regular Publix shoppers know, they can be kind of expensive if you buy everything you need there. I’ve found that you can save a lot if you only buy what’s on sale at Publix and then get the rest of your things elsewhere. Now, as for Winn-Dixie in South FL, I had a bad experience visiting some other WD’s in the area previously — the stores were filthy, staff was rude and they rarely had more than 1 cashier on duty. However, this WD is much nicer than others I have visited around Broward. Maybe it’s because it’s in the 17th St Causeway area, but the store is clean, staff is somewhat helpful, food looks fresh and of course, it’s cheaper than shopping at Publix every time you need to go to the store. They still don’t have all the good stuff Publix has or the abundance of cashiers, but I“m cool with shopping here every other trip to the store for the convenience and to save some $$.
