Fort Colony Family Diner

I so wanted to like this place. I like these old style diners and it has good reviews. Also I get so sick of fast food and the same old fare. But unfortunately the food was just bad. I had a prime rib that was almost inedible. It was so tough and had an odd flavor. Charged me $ 2 extra for a baked potato and even it had an odd taste. If you are coming from Nauvoo its not worth the drive.

Staying in Keokuk and came up to try the place out. Great Food — on all seven orders. Will come again. Easy access.

In town for the holidays, stopped in for lunch on Christmas eve with my family, the waitress was very good, and I had an incredible tasting patty melt. Everyone I was with enjoyed their meals and the price was good. I would recommend to anyone looking for a bite to eat in FM

Pecan waffle a la mode with whip cream and syrup. Yes, I just ate that for dinner at Fort Colony. No regrets; great tasty food that arrived quickly after order. Breakfast served all day and meals are all under $ 10. I docked a star because ambiance is a little too crafty for me but other than that great experience!

Our ONLY regret was eating so much that we had no room for PIE. Oh my gosh, the PIES. Clearly they were homemade and they looked so good. What I can vouch for, for sure, is the FRIED CHICKEN :)!!! Words can’t describe it.

This place is great! First and foremost, the prices are VERY reasonable. I was with a party of 4 and we all had entrees and salads or soups and the total was only $ 40. I had the popcorn shrimp, which was excellent. Usually popcorn shrimp is mostly batter, but this popcorn shrimp was just the opposite. My uncle had a whole catfish and he said it was great. The pork tenderloin was good as well according to another member of my party. What was also great about it was that it was only $ 9.00. such a deal! I also went here for breakfast with my family. It was good, although the blueberry pancakes that I had had way too much jam on the top. The wait staff is average and the restaurant itself seemed to be in good condition. One gripe that I had however was the open space between the kitchen and dining room. Typically, when restaurants show their kitchen area, it is impeccable organized and clean. Unfortunately, if you are sitting near the kitchen area, you can see that the kitchen area is a little disorganized. This can be a little unappetizing to some diners I can imagine. I would recommend that they close this area off from view. Other than that, the food was great and the prices were beyond reasonable.

I travel a lot for work and was tired of the big chain restaurants. Stopped here for dinner today and had the fried chicken. It was FANTASTIC. Skin was perfectly crisp and was incredibly juicy and flavorful. This will be my place of choice for dinner when in Fort Madison.

I am increaing my review to be 3 stars instead of 2 and this is all due to breakfast. While I do not find anything on their menue appealing for Lunch or Dinner, I do like their breakfast items. They do classic breakfast diner fare very well. On a recent visit, we split one of their HUGE Cinnamon Rolls. This delicious and decedent pastry was unforgetable. I highly recommend it. They do great breakfast skillets, wonderful eggs (any style), and fluffy pancakes.
