Avoid wasting your money on, and following the advice in, their publication Independent Living. The advice is stupid (Soon it will be financially impractical for people to have a dog? Even in the poor economy the pet industry did not suffer) and their facts incorrect. One issue said «And if we ever experience a long-​term power grid interruption, your solar panels will be the best investment you ever made.»
We had solar panels installed recently and our installer said the following:
«Your solar system is connected through the grid, if we experience a power outage your power will go off. Your system can not continue to run during a power outage as you can not have live wires going during a power outage for safety reasons. »
When I contacted Independent Living about it, they said they’d get back to me but never did.
I also purchased a book «The Ultimate Survival Manual» with a 1 year guarantee. I read it and it didn’t seem like it would be particularly useful but I decided to give it the year and see. Then when I sent it back, they said I was 4 days over the 1 year guarantee. I said by my estimate the book had been in my possession a year, counting from the time I received it to when I sent it back. However they refused to give me a refund and the customer service rep TaMara McSwain was particularly rude.
So do yourself a favor and steer clear!
