Had Mother’s Day brunch here and was impressed with the food selection!

Wonderful southern home cooking! Service was awesome. If we lived in the area, this restaurant would be one of our go to spots.

Went to this restaurant based on local recommendations. First, the location is cute. The interior looks ok– clean and definitely country. We ordered fried green tomatoes, a personal favorite. They were ok. I have never had them served with pimento cheese on top and Ina tomato sauce. Seemed a bit much. Their fried chicken, I will say, is outstanding. Amazing. They should focus on that alone. The sides were municipal, like what you expect in a school or hospital meal. The chicken was the best. Service attentive. Fills you up, but there may be better choices if you want more than fried chicken.

This was our first time here, and Sunday brunch could not have been more delicious! This is by far the best food we have had since we moved down here last year. Everything was fresh, the wait staff was courteous and kept our drinks full and table cleared. The restaurant itself was clean(old, but clean), and had a very homey atmosphere. I am giving this 4⁄5 stars only because the host(the man at the desk who took our names when we walked in) could not have been more arrogant. He prefers reservations and will hold tables for up to an hour prior to a reservation being made. The other hostess attempted to seat us twice during our 25 minute wait, but he would not let her because there were 2 reservations expected in 45 minutes. He was not trying to be polite or quiet when telling her no, he was talking down about fellow co-workers who were late, and was just an arrogant man. But once we were away from him, our restaurant experience could not have been any better! We will be going back for sure!

When I walked in, I noticed that the environment was an old fashioned. The menu had very southern style selections as well. Everything was decently priced. I ordered the Monterey Chicken, and it was delicious. We also ordered the fried green tomatoes and the hanky panky as appetizers. They were also very good. The reason I’m giving this restaurant two stars is because we had to wait 20 minutes for appetizers and 45 minutes for entrees. Also, for the majority of time we were there, our glasses were empty. Good food, poor service.

I’ll start with the positive… The food was very good. The service was very very inconsistent. We got our appetizers pretty quickly but we waited at least 45 minutes for our dinner. No check backs on drinks. Two entrees were not correct. We had considered having a banquet here and the service changes our minds!

We ate here Saturday morning for brunch. This place is huge, so there is rarely ever a wait. The service is always excellent and very professional. Saturday we had the chicken and waffle, eggs benedict, quiche, and their version of the hot brown. The chicken and waffles were delicious! They are known for their fried chicken and this dish is all the explanation you need as to why. It was a large bonelss breast with perfectly fried breading on it — peppery and salty. The chicken was juicy and very hot when it came out. The waffle was also perfectly done and a large enough portion to eat with the chicken. Everyone at the table really loved their meals. The cheddar grits were just ok. The flavor was very garlicky and they were pretty stiff. The one thing about the chicken and waffles that I did not like — they served it with one of those single serving maple syrups that you find on the breakfast buffet at like a Holiday Inn Express. Seems like the effort they put into the chicken and waffle deserves house made syrup and maybe some hot sauce? That part was disappointing. The portions here are really good so expect to leave full! The coffee is ok, not spectacular, and the bloody mary is very spicy!

Visited for lunch around Thanksgiving and really loved the atmosphere. Cosy, welcoming and friendly staff. There were quite a few things on the menu to tempt me, but as a major onion rings fan, I opted for those and a club sandwich. The sandwich was huge! I could only eat half of it before admitting defeat. It was really good though and they offered to box it for me to take away. The onion rings were so big you could wear them as bracelets. They were tasty but not exceptional. 7 out of 10 onion rings, I’d say. The rest of our party also enjoyed their lunch, it was pretty good value and quick to be served. Would call in again.

The tavern has a great atmosphere for all ages. I have had their world famous brunch on Sundays and their Fried Chicken on Mondays. This Fried Chicken is the best I have ever had. Accompanied by green beans, slaw, and some homemade delicious biscuits, all I can say is, GODISGOOD.

Decent Fried chicken and lots of grand parents can both be found here, however the prices exceed the quality of the experience. Time for this place to upgrade both the menu, and décor.

Our first time at Greyhound, we couldn’t help but notice that the décor is very old-fashioned. Long story short, old fashioned décor is no issue when the food is that delicious. It’s pretty much the best you can find.

My extended family had reservations for 25 on Saturday evening and were seated approximately 30 minutes after arrival. To be fair, the tavern was extremely busy that evening and a party of 30 was seated 15 minutes prior to our party arriving. Drinks took a considerable amount of time to come out but were quite good. My wife ordered the bourbon slushie and could not stop raving about it. We then had the fried green tomatoes and onion rings for appetizers, both of which were fried to perfection and delicious! Dinner salads arrived only 10 minutes before the entrees and our split tables were constantly on different stages of the dinner, however we could not complain too much with the size of our party. For our main course I ordered the fried chicken(yes — more fried food!) and my wife had the filet. The chicken was seasoned and deep fried to perfection. The filet was delicious and cooked to the perfect temperature — a small miracle considering the table sizes! Overall we enjoyed ourselves. Sure, the restaurant was incredibly noisy and we had to wait a bit. The staff tried their absolute harvest to uphold their reputation and we will certainly be back when in Florence, y’all!

I’m going to split the difference here. This is not my place. But It’s a great place to go with older relatives. It’s established, classic, known for fried chicken and steak. The service is casual midwest, but attentive and on point. It’s American traditional, comfortable. People will often go here after Church for brunch, so you’ll see people dressed up and people in very casual clothing. There’s not much for vegetarians and it’s not exactly light or heart-healthy. The dessert was a flop for the group unfortunately. We had the cobbler and the bread pudding.

Came for lunch on a Saturday. It was only about a quarter full. Everything was fine. I had the chicken and Waffles. They were good but not great. The décor is a simple southern inspired and in some cases looks like the pattern you would find on your grandmother’s couch. The price is good for what you get.

This place was very unassuming and a very local kind of place. There’s a joke that they cater to the«blue-haired» crowd. Lots of senior citizens and the matching floral wall paper! This place has a history that is a little convoluted. I first heard it used to be an old greyhound station but then our server told us that it used to be a trolley stop in the 1920’s and there were pictures supporting it. Apparently, this place was the last stop where the trolley turned around and they made a lot of money. Fast forward to the future… I order a double decker burger that was made from scratch that was delectable! I also order a half order of onion rings and they were literally the largest I have ever seen in my life! I found myself thinking where they would have found onions that big. The batter was not as full of flavor as I would have liked but the portion was impressive. Very inexpensive as our bill was $ 36 for three people. You really can’t beat that at a sit in and dine kind of place. It was quaint with all types of memorabilia from its heyday and I thought it was great. If you are seeking diversity the menu is great for it the restaurant isn’t however. A bit too homogenous for me.

So I’m kind of torn. The food was very good. I had the open face roast beef. Delicious. The roast beef was much like a pot roast with a thick brown gravy. The potatoes were delicious as well. They also start you off with a bowl of cole slaw. Also very good. They are very proud of their fried chicken so I ordered a single wing to try. It was fresh hot and very tasty. The interior is dark and dated, even if they were going for the colonial era look. The average age of a diner was likely in the 60s. So I felt a bit out of place. My server Kate was great and very helpful. So in conclusion, if you don’t mind hanging with the older generation, good place to eat some dinner.

Nice variety but a little bit pricey. Food was good but nothing spectacular. The chicken cordon blue sandwich was huge, tasty and fresh. The tomato served on it had an odd taste and I suspect the tomatoes are pre-sliced and stored next to something in the refrigerator, therefore, taking on an odd flavor. The others in our group thought the same and removed the tomato immediately. One of us had the BBQ sandwich, it was decent.

Fried chicken… that is what this is about! This is hands down the best fried chicken in the area. Some tips for new folks: If you are in a party of 2, come here on a Monday or Tuesday night and sit at the bar if there is a wait. You can split the family-style fried chicken dinner between two people. If you have the choice between the Saturday morning breakfast offerings and the Sunday breakfast buffet — wait until Sunday. For southern style breakfast in this particular area, it is good. With that being said, I don’t believe this establishment to be a top breakfast/brunch place. That’s fine, don’t treat it as such. Focus on dinner time and come in on a Monday or Tuesday evening for a more intimate meal.

Had a very decent time and meal this evening. Originally didn’t have plans to visit, but turned out to be a good choice. My mother-in-law wanted to treat my wife and I to a dinner for helping her out. After trying a couple of other restaurants and finding the wait way too long, she had us give Greyhound a shot. I decided to call first. They went ahead and put us on the waiting list and off I drove. We maybe waited 20 minutes till we were seated. I had the Boursin Chicken,(which tasted great) along with green bean amandine. Other than wishing the portions were a bit larger everything was very good. Everyone else had nothing but good things to say about their meals.

Tired. Sad. Uninspired traditional, Southern fare. NOTE: They no longer have the $ 15 Brunch Buffet that the majority of these reviews are mentioning. It is now the«New Saturday Southern Breakfast» which is served from 9am-1pm from a standard menu which can be found here: . After waiting for around 10 – 15 minutes we were seated at this old timey booth with what looked like linoleum lining on top of our table. The Greyhound Tavern(originally the Dixie Tea Room) was built in 1921. Now there is a difference in historic décor(which I have come to appreciate) and then there is just old and outdated décor. This place just seemed like it needed some TLC. The atmosphere is not something I would come back for, and the patrons were all 80+. I did not see anyone under the age of 60 in the entire restaurant besides the servers who all looked like they were in high school. Moving on, we ordered: Breakfast Brown 8.95 Biscuits topped with homemade sausage gravy, scrambled eggs, sausage links, cheddar cheese, applewood smoked bacon, and tomato Chicken And Waffle 8.95 Belgian waffle topped with our award winning crispy fried chicken breast, powdered sugar and served with warm maple syrup This food seemed straight out of the 1950’s. Giant portions & no seasoning. I’ll be the first to say, I love simple food. But if you are going to do something as simple as this, it has to at least be seasoned. The Breakfast Brown was a greasy mess. There were only two small biscuits which were hard, stale and hidden under a giant portion of gravy. The sausage links were undercooked and the texture was extremely off-putting. I took one bite and set them aside. The tiny bacon crumbles tasted like they came out of the bottom of a burnt pan. All these flavors just melded into one big heaping soggy mess. The Chicken and Waffle had a bit more life to it. The chicken was cooked properly and was juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside, although there was again absolutely no flavor what-so-ever not even salt. If you would’ve thrown on some salt, cayenne, heck anything this chicken would have been great. The waffle was home made which I can appreciate, but was completely dry and served with a small pre-packaged container of Smuckers breakfast syrup. Ew. I feel like the entire dish was just bland and lacked any kind of flavor. The only hint of a saving grace was the fact that they have«bottomless brunch drinks.» This includes a Bloody Mary served with a bacon swizzle stick, pickled asparagus, & bleu cheese olives with a salted rim. Mine came out with no bacon, one olive, no salted rim, and again no flavor. They also offer a mimosa, & a sangria all bottomless for around $ 8 which is unheard of in Cincinnati. In shock we thought to ourselves how can they afford to do this? Then we looked around and realized we were the only ones in our sight who ordered a cocktail. The rest were sipping iced tea. Overall while eating here I felt like I was living what you would see in a 1950’s edition of a Better Crocker cook book. From the décor, the food, the drinks, the patrons. Everything just felt tired, old and outdated. I can’t imagine what dinner is like.

A number of locals raved to me about greyhound’s brunch so honestly I was excited to give it a shot. It was… meh. I probably wouldn’t pick to go there again but if someone REALLY wanted it I wouldn’t fight them over it and would accompany — you know that kind of place! The brunch is a buffet. Some people love this! I, unfortunately, not a huge buffet fan — unless it is a truly phenomenal buffet. The buffet was kinda vanilla — bacon, biscuits, carved meat, some pastries. The food was good by all means — just a little forgettable. Service was great and we had the sweetest southern waitress — who was probably the best part of the experience. The price is okay. I’d say a bit overpriced for what kinda reminded me of a dressed up shoneys buffet but I wasn’t overly turned off by the cost. I should note that I took my grandmother and she LOVED it. If she knew what Unilocal was she’d probably give it a 5 — so maybe it just depends on what ya like. Also the drink menu did catch my eye so hopefully we can check out a cocktail their soon and maybe enjoy dinner there more than brunch!

The Greyhound Tavern has a rich history in the NKY community and is known for comfort food traditions like fried chicken and pork chops. They boast several awards including Best Fried Chicken and Best Comfort Food from Cincinnati Magazine. We had a special event to celebrate at work and our soon to be retiree choose the Greyhound for our celebration. It was a a fun evening of food and festivities and we enjoyed ourselves! I arrived late but the gang didn’t hesitate to get started with the fried green tomatoes and Kentucky beer cheese. Apparently a good choice because there was not much left when I arrived! We were there on a Wednesday night so several guests choose the country fried pork chops– two big chops with mash potatoes and pork gravy(not something you find often but well worth the calories) two sides and blackberry cobbler, all for $ 15. They offer several nightly special including a decent happy hour and wine down wednesday with ½ off bottles of wine. I choose the fried perch with mash potatoes and green beans and portion was huge and seriously satisfying! We dined in the Tavern and our server was efficient and handled our loud and rowdy crowd with ease. I had the opportunity to visit their sunday brunch about a month ago and enjoyed that as well. Overall I liked the place and will definitely go back. It’s not an upscale or hip spot but a good neighborhood tradition worth a visit, especially if you are into comfort foods! The Tousey House in Burlington is their sister restaurant and I guess I’m going to need to make that next on my Red Pearl agenda. Until next time, Red Pearl

4:23 p.m., March 19, 1973. 11:17 a.m., September 23, 1977. 5:52 p.m., May 6, 1975. The times of Led Zeppelin album releases? The times when mood rings, Pet Rocks, and Space Dust were released? The times when Raj, Arnold Horshak, and Potzie first appeared on TV? Probably not. But give or take a ten or twenty million seconds, a few thousand hours, several hundred days, a couple of dozen months, or a year or two, any of those times could very well be when all the clocks at the Greyhound Tavern stopped cold. Only the Greyhound’s patrons have aged, apparently. Back then, they were around 50 or 55. OK, that’s a slight exaggeration. But on the day we were there, the crowd consisted largely of pairs of mothers and daughters having lunch together. The DAUGHTERS were 60 or 65 years old. (In fairness, I must concede that I am pretty old, too! And I must concede as well that at some point the Greyhound’s menu was updated with a taco salad and a Southwestern-style chicken sandwich, which pulls it all the way into the late 1980s or thereabouts!) Anyway, heading back into town from points south, we stopped into the Greyhound for pretty much one reason: to try the much-heralded fried chicken. But Sweet Jeebus, I was shocked and dismayed to receive the menu and find that the Greyhound charges SEVENTEENDOLLARS for a plate of their signature product. I don’t care how good this fried chicken is – and my quick glance at a plate of the stuff from halfway across the dining room suggested a very nice crispiness – I am not paying anywhere close to SEVENTEENDOLLARS for fried chicken. Sorry, Greyhound Tavern. So I ordered a Hot Brown. It was pretty good. But having had the original at the Brown Hotel in Louisville a few years back, I have concluded that all other Hot Browns are disappointing by comparison, including the Greyhound’s. My wife said her reuben was pretty good. On the plus side, our server was as friendly and attentive as he could be, and it looked like other servers were similarly on top of it. And the Greyhound has very fresh, strong iced tea. Probably won’t be back, unless my Magic 8 Ball scares me into going for the fried chicken despite the outrageous price.
