So much nostalgia here… I grew up coming every so often with family or friends and I still have many great memories of coming in through the kitchen to the tune of glass bottles of Coke and the smell of delicious hot dogs. But does the place hold up still? Completely. Their hot dogs are still the best around, and that coney sauce is to die for. I also love their beans. Seriously, I drool just thinking about them(but be warned, they are fairly divisive — you’ll either love them or hate them). My only complaint is that, when they get really busy(which isn’t uncommon) the service can become slow. This is probably because there doesn’t seem to be much of a system for who takes your order and handles your group. Not a big complaint, but something to watch out for. And that certainly won’t stop me from eating these delicious dawgs any chance I get.

Coney Island is a Fort Wayne staple! Having been open for over a century, they’ve figured out the answers to the test of time: a friendly staff, unique atmosphere and simple but delicious hotdogs, burgers, chili, and pie! The best part? Coke in a bottle! This is a great family experience joint! Since the building is rather small seating is limited! Or get your dogs as carry out! Enter in through the back kitchen for an added touch of fun!

Not local to Fort Wayne, but was across the street at the PNC Building for a wedding. Food there was delicious, but my brother had heard about this place and was itching to try it. So as the night went on we decided to go over and see what the fuss was all about. Line was a little bit out the building… always good sign about the food, but I get impatient and hate waiting in long lines. Thankfully though the line moved very quickly. As I said, it was out the building, but we went through and had our food in under 10 minutes. No seats available inside, so we ate on the sidewalk. Not sure which was cleaner, but I think the sidewalk may have the inside of this place beat in terms of cleanliness ;) Don’t look at the floors. Who cares though, as the coneys were absolutely delicious. Best I’ve ever had!

Love visiting this popular Fort Wayne coney joint. Their coneys are inexpensive and good. Don’t expect much variety here.; coneys and burgers, chili and beans. Save room to try one of their slices of pie. This place has limited seating so be aware it gets full fast at peak periods and especially before games or big events downtown. Service is friendly and prompt, although when they are busy you may have to work to get your servers attention.

As a Fort Wayne native, Coney Island is a MUST have a few times a year. Classic weiner dogs with a nice Coke and chips always hits the spot. Recommend everyone going and experiencing the awesomeness of Coney Island

I had never had Coney Island before(hated hot dogs when I was a lad) and had lived in Muncie for the past 4 years(when I discovered I like hot dogs). My family always and enjoyed them and I never understood the appeal. Now that I moved back, I knew it was time to give it a try. Now, I had recently went to Powers and got a couple coneys there, they were decent but the customer service was a little«meh» and their burgers are plain bland and boring(their burger onions taste like splenda to me) but this gave me the craving for coneys. I went in their last night and immediately felt comfortable. It is a known and loved local eatery and you could feel that there. The staff was very welcoming and not in your face with awkward service. I ordered all the food and wanted to get a taste of their selling point foods. The staff was on point with receiving the order and processing the whole exchange. It was a very fast for my food to be done. Was almost just straight in and out done. I got some coneys a burger and the chilli. I was very surprised with how delicious it all was. The food was not very messy either! The coneys were outstanding and all the flavors combine very well. I kept thinking, what could I add to make this better and nothing sounded like it would be worth it to change the taste. The burger was cheap and wholesome. Way better than expected. The chilli soup came last and it initially just felt and tasted like a generic diner chilli, but the more I ate the better it got. I was fiending the last drops of the chilli by the time I was done. All in all, this was a very good experience with Coney Island. I will definitely be returning there for my coney cravings(plus they stay open later than most other coneys places around town!).

Fort Wayne’s Coney Island Wiener Stand delivers something that extremely few restaurants offer nowadays: absolute authenticity. From the clanking plates, chipped with age, to Coke in a bottle(ladies get a straw; men do not), the jukebox, and a pie case that’s been there at least since my legs dangled from the counter stool – over 40 years ago, this is the real deal. The fare is limited, the bathrooms scary, and the modest prices suggest a cheap date, but going to Coney Island is a grand affair and something to get excited about. BTW, the chili is Cincinnati style(but better) and, yes, the buns are steamed. ;)

Best dogs in the world! Seriously, oldest coney stand in America. How cool is that! Every time someone from out of town comes in, we try to make a stop by Coney Island for the classic coneys, coke in a bottle, and chili! MMMMMM The real tradition is walking in the back door. First-timers look at you like you’re crazy, walking through the kitchen and usually say«um are we allowed back here?“But that is all part of the coney island experience. Thank you Coney Island for 101 years of amazing coney dogs in downtown Fort Wayne!

Fast, delicious, and pretty affordable. Nice atmosphere and the coney dogs were great. We were in and out in under 15 minutes with full bellies.

This review is actually a little biased. As a child I grew up eating here all the time and loved it. It’s been 20 years since I’ve had my last Coney Island Coney dog from this location and the only thing that has changed is the amount of Coney sauce they put on the dogs.(Seriously, they could be a little more generous with the Coney sauce.) Hell, even Raj, the guy serving us tonight had served me over 20 years ago. Everything is classic about this place, just looking across all the pictures on the wall you can tell how Coney Island was a major part in Fort Wayne’s history. From the bar stools lined counter to the classic coke bottles served, it’s like stepping into the past. Top all that with fabulous coney dogs, to die for chili, and surround the entire experience with friendly people and staff. You have every reason to make Coney Island a regular visit.

To be true to the locals, nothing less than 4 stars is allowed even if this place isn’t my cup of tea. Being married to a native, the first time I visited this place, I refused to even try anything. Were there even any vegetables or respectable items on the menu?(Sorry, I’m a native hip Austinite). Besides, «I wasn’t hungry.» 7 years later with the native Fort Wayner, I’m more open minded. I gave Coney Island a full shot. I have to say the first thing that majorly impressed me was walking through the kitchen from the parking lot which was apparently procedural. The kitchen was beautifully spotless. You never get to see 99% of kitchens, but either way I was impressed. The service here was impeccable. The dogs and chili… hmmm…not the sort of thing I go for personally. However, for the memories, the old timey feel, I donate 4 stars.

Historic landmark, a must try if you are in the Fort. One of the few«real thing» left in town. Try one and you will want more.

This is like the hot dog version of Powers hamburger — it’s loved by loyal locals, but it’s just a hot dog place. They taste like hot dogs. Not ‘great’ hotdogs either. Just plain ol’ steamed hot dogs.

Coney Island is a Fort Wayne classic with many imitators but nobody comes close. The restaurant just celebrated its 100th anniversary. My wife and I love coming here. We get their coney dogs with everything(coney sauce, mustard and onion). Their baked beans are pretty great too! We highly recommend it! And they even just started taking credit cards so it is convenient.
