Awesome BBQ place. No frills just killer BBQ. It’s like eating at an indoor family pick nick or BBQ competition. Simple place with awesome BBQ and sides. The brisket was awesome. Sliced to just the right thickness juicy and super tender. Just the right amount of smoke. The side are awesome. The baked beans are totally unique with little chunks of apple in them really good. A must try place!

The ribs and burnt ends were extremely dry. The brisket was better. Loved the corn casserole and mac ‘n cheese. Didn’t feel the price matched the quality.

This place could be a 4 star BBQ place but so many easily fixable problems go on until they are chronic. In the midst of numerous awards on the wall you’ll find a dining room that is unremarkable, not inviting, cozy or stylish. Aloof, obviously uninterested staff will take your order and in a fairly short amount of time your food will be ready, a staff member will scream it from the pickup window. The food quality is good, all the sides I’ve had are tasty, the pork ribs and brisket are a little dry but an addition of sauces will remedy that. A closer look at details and a passion for what the customer needs and wants will bring this place to the top of BBQ places I’d recommend and frequent.

We really enjoyed this place. The meat was cooked excellently and the atmosphere was fun yet extremely clean. The variety of sauces was nice and the sides were delicious. I would highly recommend the baked beans, green beans, and the corn spoon bread. However, we found the green chili Mac and cheese tasted more chili than Mac and cheese, and therefore was not our favorite. Overall fantastic meal at a great price and would definitely eat here again!

I have to admit. I wasn’t sure about this place… at first. With a name like«Shigs in Pit» I couldn’t help but think(and I’m sure the owners were quite aware of the name) that it sounds like«Pigs in Shit». As in «Happier than…» But please, don’t let the name fool ya! I noticed the sign as I passed the restaurant…“Shigs in Pit”. I thought to myself«What the???» Curiosity got the best of me, so I turned around and had to give this place a try. It was a good sign when I noticed a bunch of marked and unmarked Fort Wayne police cars parked outside the place. It was just pass noon, so I assumed the police force stopped in for a bite. This place has to be good if the Fort Wayne PD was eating here. Found out also that the Fort Wayne Fire Department patronized this place. Figured I start small and work myself up. I ordered the PULLPORK sandwich for $ 5.99, a side of their macaroni & cheese along with a soft-drink(Mello-Yello). RESULT: OUTSTANDING! I’ve heard people complain about the meat being too dry. Well, not me. The prices may be a bit on the«expensive» side, but… what are you going to do? If the meat is too dry, drown it in the BBQ sauce that’s available in a squirt bottle on every table. I can’t elaborate enough about how awesome this sandwich was. You’re just going to have to try it for yourself. TRUSTME… you will NOT be disappointed(unless you forget to bring your wallet). I’ll definitely be back!

The ribs and cornbread is great but extremely expensive for what they’re offering. Nothing else is worth talking about.

Another top notch wonderful place to eat. Clean and neat. Absolutely wonderful food. My mouth waters as I even think about it. Hang on gotta grab a napkin I’m drooling. Stop looking and just get in there and enjoy. It’s soooo worth it.

There food is great. The BBQ sauce sometimes I wonder if it’s the best or not, but overall great food. The down side it is kinda expensive. Not oh my, I just got ripped off expensive, but I understand business expense and they probably pay a lot to pay for employees and what not, to ensure a good experience. We look forward to our visit there. The spoon bread is famous.

Great BBQ! The floor plan is simple, clean, and efficient. The offerings are simple, and simply delicious. Great smokey flavor, but not overdone.

First time here the BBQ pork is seasoned perfectly. The hot sauce is not too spicy but very flavorful & the baked beans are on point.

Some of the best barbeque I’ve ever had! I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and it didn’t come with any sides. I ordered green beans and coleslaw. The green beans were the greenest I’ve ever seen at a barbeque place and they were delicious! The pulled pork came on a buttery bun that tasted amazing! The coleslaw was a bit spicy but I still enjoyed it. The best part of the meal was the free slice of cake they gave out for their anniversary!

They NEVER disappoint! Ribs and burnt ends are the best. Cooked well, soft and delicious. I’ve visited other area BBQ and none come close.

Came here for lunch on a Monday and was disappointed. I get the theme but the music is so annoying that you can’t even enjoy your food in peace. Food quality was really bad and old; i don’t understand how this is the«Best» BBQ in town. Definitely won’t be back.

We have been here several times over the last month and our experience has been consistently the same regardless of whether we have eaten the pulled pork, cubed chicken, brisket, etc. The sides are always good, the place is always busy and remarkably stays clean and tidy, but the prices are expensive and the meat is always way too dry. When the place first opened there were not many places that directly competed with Shigs In Pit combination of good BBQ, unique sides, and a warm and inviting inside dining option. However what has happened recently is the restaurant itself still has a great and warm atmosphere, and as noted above the sides are mostly always fresh and tasty, but the focus needs put back on the BBQ. The last time we were there they featured a smoked salmon sandwich. The piece of salmon was about half the size of a deck of cards and was so dry it was inedible. It should have never been served. Good salmon should always be flavorful, moist and juicy. The pulled pork sandwich was nearly $ 6 and does not come with anything. Sides were $ 2 extra and by the time you order a beverage you are around $ 10. Note that they do not offer any«combo» pricing that might include a sandwich, side, and beverage — everything is a la carte. During one visit the cubed smoked chicken sandwich was not at all moist and the portion size was very small. The ribs on the sampler platter were also on the dry and tough side, which was disappointing considering it was nearly $ 25. In past years as noted earlier this was the default go to place for good BBQ — not anymore. When your signature foods are no longer a major focus people will start to take notice. There are some notable contenders in Fort Wayne that have larger portions, juicier meats, and are much less expensive.

Really a 3.5 rating but I’ll round up. I have to admit I am spoiled when it comes to BBQ after eating at the top BBQ joints in the USA, like Franklins in Austin and Little Miss BBQ in Phoenix. The BBQ itself gets 3 stars for being average BBQ. The sauce gets 4.5 stars and the sides(Corn Bread and apple baked beans) get 5 stars.

I order the rib & meat platter with spoon corn bread and green chili Mac, also a favorite of mine is the house pickles! Last time I went, everything was luke warm. Ribs were fatty and lacked meat, I was given a mangled mess of small rib ends covered in a wet spice rub. The burnt ends were just not up to par with what I’ve had here before. I didn’t see them using microwaves this time, but they still aren’t serving that days smoked meat, like other places in town. Shigs is great, but they are deliciously inconsistent. I’ve enjoyed them since before they went brick and mortar, but I think they’ll get one more try from me before I go somewhere else.

I only recently started to enjoy BBQ and I’ve heard great things about Shigs and Pit for a long time. I finally tried it and I was impressed. I had the ribs and my wife had the pulled pork. We shared corn bread and macaroni and cheese. While the food was great, I was expecting more of a table service restaurant than a quick service. Regardless, it was very good and I will be coming back soon.

On the way home from a recent business trip, my crew decided to stop by here for some award winning BBQ… so glad we did! Our original lunch plans had fallen through, so(on the fly) I searched Fort Wayne’s barbecue scene and stumbled across this place. We knew we hit pay-dirt when we walked up the back parking lot and there sat a smoker cranking away. Win! The inside was decorated fairly minimally, except for the huge pile of awards and trophys on display in the middle of the dining room… another good sign. ;-) You order at the window and then they call you up to get your food. Plenty of dining tables are available as well as an outdoor patio. I ordered a mixed meat plate along with two sides and a banana pudding for dessert. Let’s start with the meats… ribs and pulled pork. The ribs were firm and well smoked(had to work to get them off the bone which is my preference) and the pulled pork was moist with great flavor. As for their sauces… the«original» was thick but too sweet, «tangy» was thin but great vinegar tang, «hot» was thick with a mild kick… combining the hot and tangy was the best combo I discovered. The sides were excellent… smoky, spicy baked beans and a creamy, spicy green chile mac-n-cheese. The banana pudding was only real disappointment with my meal, as there were no real bananas in it(seems like an important oversight). All in all I really loved this place, especially since the meal(as a whole) was rock solid. Would definitely return, should I ever get the chance.

Stopped in here on my first trip up to Fort Wayne earlier this week. Being that it’s summertime, I was craving some good BBQ. And the numerous awards this place has won led me there. I already knew I was ordering pulled pork before I even walked in. They have many different sandwich and side options. You can also add coleslaw or pimento cheese(YUM) to anything for $ 1. This place is also super laid back. Your order and pick up your food and sit at a table of your choosing. So I got the pulled pork with coleslaw on top, green beans and the corn«spoon» bread. If you’re hungry. Go with 2 sides. The pulled pork meat itself was nothing special, it was everything you would expect from pulled pork though. The meat is served without sauce. This way you can control the amount and type of bbq sauce. They have 3 on the tables(regular, vinegar based and hot). I took some advice from a fellow Unilocaler and mixed both the hot and the vinegar sauce. The hot is HOT. And all the sauces were delicious! Next, the sides. The corn spoon bread was wonderful!!! Slightly sweet, spoonable(as mentioned) with chunks of corn. It was more like an Irish corn pudding. So delicious. The green beans, on the other hand, were not. I asked how the green beans were before ordering. The response was«Pretty good.» Then she went on to mention how there were brisket pieces, bacon and onions in there too. SOLD! So much nope. The green beans were obviously canned, they literally had NO salt or flavor to them whatsoever. There were brisket chunks, but nothing else. My friend did get the green chili mac and it was on point though. Another note. They serve Mad Anthony beers. Maybe I just don’t get it, but we each had a different beer and they just weren’t that great at all. I know this has nothing to do with the restaurant itself. They don’t make the beer. I would definitely return if I need my pulled pork fix!

I went to Shigs In Pit and ordered the two meat plate with two sides and a side of sweet homemade pickles. I had the burnt ends and the jalapeño cheddar sausage with potato casserole and green bean salad. I was going to give it three stars because the burnt ends were not very impressive, but the jalapeño cheddar sausage gave this location its fourth star. The name is cute and it’s a type of place where you order your food and pick it up at the window inside and sit down at the tables. It’s extremely casual. The potato casserole was really good too. They have t-shirts for sale and potato chips by the bag. I’d go back for the sausage, but I’d skip on the burnt ends next time, too fatty. Do be advised, it’s pretty expensive for BBQ. It was almost $ 40 for two — two meat plates w/two sides and a side of pickles, just FYI.
