Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth

I love this museum! it’s wonderful and educational and fun to look at. They have some really great exhibits here and when I teach, I like to take my students here. Also, it’s free for everyone on Sunday. I think that’s great they don’t charge on that day. The regular price for an adult ticket is $ 10; however, giving a free day on Sunday, let’s everyone who can’t afford to go, have a chance to.

It is a very beautiful location well architecturally build. The only thing I was not happy with was the customer service! Calling for information about an art work they were unprofessional over the phone and did not provide me with anything! The only thing that was said was I have to google questions I had. This experience was very disappointing!

It’s Art inside a work of Art.
I absolutely love the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. I don’t always get the art, but the building is so cool I always come out dripping of culture. My recent visit was for the Kehinde Wiley exhibit which was fabulous. I love the flow of the museum with all the different rooms it is like a natural progression of whatever exhibit you are there to see. There’s more to see of course than a limited exhibit. The Modern has a pretty neat permanent collection of art.
From the upstairs you can look at different visual art either up in the ceiling or down below on the floor. One of my favorite things to see at the museum is the reflection pool. I love looking at the outside of the building which looks to be held up by giant «Y’s».
The prices are more than reasonable and on Sunday’s it’s free and Half price on Wednesday but it’s worth the $ 10 admission. There so much to do and if you get hungry or plan ahead to visit Café Modern. If you love art you can’t miss a trip to the Modern.

This is the coolest museum building in Ft. Worth. It’s a work of art, itself. The first time we were here, the upstairs was closed because they were preparing an installation. This time, it was open. I loved about 80% of the art. Abstract Expressionism isn’t greatly appealing to me. But to each their own, right? Each room was well laid out and different. I loved the flow of the museum. Banksy’s «Tidal wave» was on exhibit. Several pieces by Robert Motherwell. Very interesting pieces by Glenn Kaino, Philip Guston and a Picasso. Will come back for the exhibit «Frank Stella: A Retrospective» in April.

The museum building itself is very elegant and enjoyable to walk around, but the art was less impressive than expected. I felt there were mostly paintings, and not many other types of art. More of a variety would have been nice. My friends and I found ourselves in and out of the entire museum in an hour.

This museum is gorgeous!
The staircase was grand, the views of the water and parks were beautiful, and the exhibits were excellent. I was happy to see the amazing pieces they had in their permanent collection and the Glenn Kaino exhibit was incredible!
I’ll definitely come back when I’m in the area.

The Newest Exhibit At The Modern, Is A Showing By The Artist Glenn Kaino Titled: «Focus» The pieces on display are conceptual works of art. I found the works to be very thought provoking as well as surreal. Do Not miss the animatronic display of the moon interacting with a song and speech. There is another work of art where I thought there was glass going from the floor up to the ceiling. Well there wasn’t any glass at all. Mind bending for sure. The Exhibit runs through April 17^th. I found a greeting card recently that cheekily describes my love for the Modern. It goes like this:
«Why do people choose art museums for first dates?
1. So you don’t have to look at or talk to each other.
2. To pretend you’re cultured.
3. To get a sense of how bad the other person’s tastes actually are.
4. It’s a public place with at least two exists & clean toilets.»
You caught me, card! I love taking dates to the Modern. Is there anything more fun than strolling around in a clean space, looking at beautiful things, holding hands with a cutie, and talking about ideas? The experience is wholly changed by who you go with, too. I’ve gone twice in two weeks with two different people and has vastly different experiences. Cool as fuck, and tons of revisit potential.
The Kehinde Wiley exhibition that’s about to wrap up (January 10!) is without a doubt the best I’ve seen anywhere. The sheer size of the collection is amazing, and the collection is not only gorgeous but hella thought provoking. What can I say? I love good revisionism and race politics.

I’m not a huge fan of museums but I really liked this one. ITS MODERN. So it had a lot of things that I could relate to or identify. I really enjoyed seeing the different celebrity art and different ways they would paint different logos! It’s just a very good way to spend your Sunday’s especially since it’s free on those days!

Two of my favorite exhibits in this museum were the psychedelic room and the 80’s Polaroids from NYC.
First, the psychedelic room was by far one of the most detailed exhibits I have ever encountered. You step into this time warp with black lights and thousands of perfectly placed artifacts that created a colorful carnival for your eyes. Every bit of space from floor to ceiling was plastered with creative art. I didn’t want to leave this place because I kept finding new and interesting things to adore. For a moment, I got lost in time.
The Polaroids from NYC in the 80’s exhibit was also enjoyable for me. Every snapshot told a different and somewhat heartbreaking correlation between addiction and the party nightlife. While I was young during this era, I still find it extremely interesting.
This museum is absolutely wonderful. The floor to ceiling glass allows you to adore the landscaping outside. With well manicured lawns and a wonderful water feature, I felt very relaxed here.

This is by far, my favorite museum in good ‘ol Fort Worth. I have been plenty of times but recently went to a networking event and was able to get a private tour of the Kehinde Wiley exhibit. The exhibit is absolutely FABULOUS! I am not artsy-​fartsy by any means, but the depictions and colors are so vibrant and lively. The artist is crazy talented and I love seeing the hues of brown and all of the florals used throughout his work.
Beyond this exhibit, the building is chic and screams to be used for swanky events. I love stepping into this museum and definitely need to take better advantage of the free Sundays in 2015. I suggest checking it out on a Sunday afternoon with family and friends. You can grab brunch and look at all of the interesting artwork.

Fort Worth is truly #blessed with three, count ‘em, world-​class, small museums all lined up in a row on the city’s near west side. I think the very best way to experience each of the museums is through membership.
At the Modern, even the basic membership grants you many wonderful perks, including free admission (for you and a guest) to all of the museum’s galleries and special exhibits, discounts in the Café and gift shop, plus access to many wonderful special Member events throughout the year. I recently attended a terrific Art 101 class and always look forward to Modern ‘Till Midnight. Yep, free for Members!
The Modern Art Museum houses an incredible rotating collection of international modern and contemporary art. Warhol, Pollock, Rothko, Judd, Sherman? They got it, and then some!
Of course, the building, designed by Japanese architect Tadao Ando, is a work of art itself. Constructed using only concrete, steel, aluminum, glass and granite, the space is a case study in simple geometry. Pure art zen!
And I almost forgot to mention Magnolia at the Modern. Truly the best spot in Fort Worth to see critically acclaimed independent films and documentaries every Friday — Sunday. Remember to present your membership card for discounted tickets!

A Kehinde Wiley painting cannot be ignored. That’s my feeling. If I step into a room that features one of his paintings, I’ll get sucked into his canvas at the expense of anything else that hangs on the walls.
Most known for appropriating images of the powerful, wealthy, and religious from old European masters then replacing them with the modern-​day disenfranchised in an explosive sign of affirmation, the works in this exhibition show the breadth of his talent and include works in stained glass and bronze, too.
Indeed, when I walked into the room featuring his large-​scale bronze sculpture, titled ‘Bound’, I was surprised. This resides at the Brooklyn Museum so I was glad to see it visiting here because it features three beautiful sisters from myth whose braids tangle upward into a medusa-​like epiphany. It’s a celebration of black hair. Sitting in the center of the gallery, it’s like a gorgeous tree.
I had never seen his stained glass works so with these, his triptych, and a host of other wonderfully lush and colorful paintings, this exhibition, the first retrospective of his work, is an incredible introduction to Kehinde Wiley.

This museum was wonderful. The building alone is just beautiful, I loved it as much as I loved the art. They have many interesting pieces and the layout is easy to follow, definitely worth a visit.

The building itself is gorgeous. I love the silver tree sculpture. The landscape is amazing. The installations everywhere. The most recent exhibit we went to see was mostly photography– loved it. The grounds are meant to be enjoyed so come and spend a leisurely day here. They do a lot of film evenings, be sure to check the FB page to keep up. They also have a lovely café you can eat a fancy brunch at or just score a light lunch during the week. There’s some great pieces in the permanent collection as well and that just re-​opened August 22^nd!

There are three public bathrooms here. One near the movie theatre and restaurant that has two stalls and one near the info desk and gift shop that has about ten stalls. There is also one upstairs but I rarely go there. The one with ten stalls is super cool because it has two mirrors that face each other which is great for selfies (see attached photo). The bigger one has a changing table and I hear also has one in the men’s room which I think is rare. There is a custodial crew always working so very very clean. Just make sure you look when you sit down because I’ve plunked down in a seat where the lid is up a couple of times. At least I knew it had been cleaned recently.

I love this museum, and can spend hours here! Actually I have!
I have often said that if I don’t understand it, it must be art! If it is too weird, then it’s modern art!
However, many people forget that Fort Worth is home to original Warhol’s, Picasso’s, and Pollocks! The building itself is even considered a work of art!
Even if you aren’t into modern art, there is something here for everyone!
Do not miss this museum!

Awesome architecture great collection of modern art. Staff is friendly and very helpful. Love how they offer viewings of independent films and documentarys. I would return again no doubt.

My second home in Fort Worth. The building was designed by Tadao Ando (Japanese architect) and it is breathtaking. You can grab a drink inside and take a rest on the Teresa Margolles sculptures or enjoy the echoes of Richard Serras Vortex which is outside the building. Love, love, love this place.

Such a beautiful space that I wish I visited more often. As with most amazing art museums, this museum itself — it’s architecture and landscaping — is an impressive piece worth writing home about. Those windows! Seriously, even if you’re not into art at all, come have lunch here or just take a stroll. It’s a sight to see. Gorgeous venue space for any large party you’re looking to plan!
The Modern has a beautiful café, an amazing gift shop, first Fridays with live music and cocktails, the Magnolia — which screens amazing artsy films every weekend, an incredible, rotating permanent collection of nearly 3,000 pieces, and striking, educational, and invigorating exhibitions. You must go!
Now I’m not an art critic of any kind, although I did do very well in a contemporary art-​history course where I studied a handful of the artists and works that live inside the Modern. But, «modern art» isn’t up my alley really, although there are so, so many different styles and interpretations that one cannot truthfully say, «I don’t like modern art.» Really? Nothing made after World War II appeals to you? Maybe not.
There is something a bit more romantic, I think, about renaissance paintings, ancient artifacts, and sculptures that have survived for millenniums. Greek mythology, biblical scenes, historical and religious commentary, royally commissioned beauties. But, perhaps the kind of artwork you’ll see at the Modern has more to say. More to interpret? More to think about? It’s all in the eye of the beholder.
Here is a bit of my own amateur commentary on some of the pieces at the Modern that I haven’t tired of viewing… I’ll start with Martin Puryear’s «Ladder for Booker T. Washington» because it always amuses me. It’s whimsical and surreal and really makes you think about how we perceive the world around us. What is real? What is only an illusion? I love it. It’s almost child-​like; Dr. Seuss-​y. And that triggers your imagination, the way you used to use it when you were little.
A painting at the Modern that I’ve always enjoyed is «Jar of Olives Falling» by Ed Ruscha. And not just because I love green olives (which definitely helps). But I mean… this painting is just so oddly refreshing. It’s strange and new to see an inanimate object (that would traditionally be set up on a table with lovely lighting, fruit, and flowers) just falling in empty, olive-​colored space. And the olives look so delicious! It’s just a painting that makes me feel happy and revivified.
Something that is even more moving, but definitely not uplifting, is Andres Serrano’s «Klansman.» Absolutely haunting… ugh. Is it weird to be so captivated by such a simple and ill-​boding print? I think that if something makes you feel, no matter what those feelings are, it’s a successful work of art.
I’m also a fan of Gerhard Richter’s (I once did a presentation on him in college!) amazing paintings. See his «Nude Descending a Staircase» and «Ferrari» here at the Modern. They’re like huge blurry photographs. You can just feel the movement in them!
I’m not necessarily a big fan of abstract-​expressionists like Rothko or Diebenkorn (think blocks of color and texture), but I can appreciate their talent and dedication. I understand when people get turned-​off by modern art though, of course. You see these huge paintings of one solid color or what looks like paint randomly splattered («my child could make that!»), and you think they’re nonsensical and empty. But, to each their own. I recommend that you take the time to experience it all.
