On our way one morning along Vickery Boulevard to, where else? Vickery Café. Slammed by regulars as usual. Now just before arriving, I’d almost turned to early at *another* café, that was practically empty. So we figured, hey, why not? We just want some simple diner fare and coffee. Let’s get this out of the way: you want a ridiculous, crazy, five-star bells-and-whistles breakfast, go somewhere else. We knew what to expect going to Vickery, and what we might get here: some eggs, some toast, some bacon, ’nuff said. It’s a diner in a strip mall, folks. And a little different in that you order at an actual counter to get your order, sandwich shop style.(Crazy, right?) Being that we stopped in at breakfast, we didn’t get to sample any of the burgers, sandwiches, salads or tex-mex options talked about on their lunch menu. But a quickie breakfast? Not bad at all. Ready in a hurry, hot, affordable and not too greasy or burnt, just nice middle-of-the-road. They lean more towards a «breakfast sandwich» type menu, than what Vickery Café offers, so if I’m offering criticism, they need to try and offer one or two items off Vickery’s menu, like grits. Then they’ve got ‘em by the horns. As it is, they’re offering a lighter, cheaper deal that could let people come-and-go at breakfast, and maybe have a more substantial lunch menu. And here’s the deal: Vickery’s is over-crowded and uncomfortable. It’s loud, it bombards you with the TV’s and it’s just not that great to be in when it’s the morning rush. Railway actually had a great custom décor(go in just to check out the mural they have on their wall), plus freshly padded booth seats. So if you’re just wanting a stop in your morning routine, but Vickery’s Café is getting too busy for you? Maybe give Railway Café a try. At least once.
