Sombrero’s is no longer open. The place is empty and all of the signage is down. It’s out of business!

I would rather eat a bologna sandwich. Worst tacos EVER. Four tacos $ 14 wasted on inedible food. The tortillas where hard, uncooked. The meat was tough. Fish was brown not white. The restaurant was dirty. The workers creeped me out. Bad part of town. Need I say more? I would not think this place would make it much longer. Maybe it’s just the native Texan in me though since this is supposedly San Diego food.

I was so excited when I heard Somberos was out here in Texas. I was born and raised in San Diego, moved out to Texas 2 years ago. My husband and I have tried so many soo called Mexican places, it just ends up being tex mex or just very bland. Of course a group of us Californians went, there was about 10 of us, we took up their entire dinning area. The guy working there at the time was very accomdating to our large group. He was friendly and professional, it helped make for such a pleasant visit. The food is great and will help you get your fix of real California mexican food. The rolled tacos were great, of course they are fried but no greasy, great crunch and great flavor. Salsa bar, yet small is awesome, great authentic flavors. Spicy carrots are great. It’s great a taste of home!

I would give this 5 stars but the owner is very rude. The man at the drive thru window was delightful. I think he was new and I probably didn’t help with how I ordered but he was super helpful. I asked for carrots when we first pulled up and he gave me them, I’m sure he assumed I didn’t want any other salsas since I didn’t ask at the time. I forgot to get salsa(in SD they just throw a few in the bag, not ask). So I waited patiently at the window while he was taking another order. When the owner saw me and asked what I needed I told her, she very rudely, while looking at this sweet guy, says«we usually ask first thing, ugh» and gave him a dirty look. I made sure to tell them both ITWASFINE as he was apologizing. She just seemed so bitter. I LOVE Texas people because they are so much friendlier than your average Californian, which I am one so I can say that. There is a reason I won’t go back to San Diego and I wish she would leave her taco shop but go back if she won’t adapt to the friendliness of Texas. The first time I went in she was rude as well but I did get out of her that they owned it. I will be back but only because I love the food, not the owner. The hot carrots are AMAZING and I am so glad I found this place. It’s my definite fix for San Diego Mexican.

I just wanted to let people know I am the Duke here. Come at me bro. Actually don’t. You are probably bigger than me. I know how to wrestle, though. So… take your chances. Taco Tuesdays, $ 1.99. Love it. Free cheese quesadilla after 2 pm if you order a burrito or bowl. Love it. Healthier than most places. Love it. More expensive than most places. Don’t love it. But I live it. La vida pura. Sombrero. Go.

I drive 20 minutes just to get some carne asada fries. All I need after that is some tasty waves and a cool buzz, then I’m in SD again!!! Service staff is nice, food is close to home and the price is reasonable for the amount of food you get. If you’re out drinking and get hungry, get some asada fries. You’ll never go back.

Menu is confusing. Overpriced fast mexican food. No napkins in the dining area or at the counter. You have to ask for them and they are not fast to respond to someone standing at the counter where you order. They don’t serve people in the order in which they come into the inside area. In other words its not«first come first serve». They just fill orders based upon when they have«whatever» ready. Very confusing menu. No help from staff to organize or to explain what is what. I waited 15 minutes for my food(I ordered a platter for $ 8.99) and they brought me my food without the rice. Brought the rice out 10 minutes after I received my food. At no time did they offer to replace the order or the rice(side item) with another menu item that they may have had ready at the time. I asked the cashier what they had as far as sodas as they don’t have it on their menu and she pushed a small plastic flyer(encased in clear plastic) about 1 inch from my nose without saying a word. Staff seemed very unorganized. This location has had about 6 businesses in the same spot over the last 5 years. No salt or pepper on the tables. The condiments are in a very small self serve area and consists of 4 choices(1. red salsa 2. jalapenos and carrots 3. non existant unknown condiment 4. a green chili sauce.). very tiny dispensing/condiment area. In summary, I would avoid this place and spend your money elsewhere. My total was $ 9.73 for a tiny chile relleno smaller that the size of a breakfast burrito at McDonalds and an enchilada that was about the same size as a breakfast burrito from Mcdonald’s. Tiny portions of beans and(the late) rice they include in their«platter» which consist of a small 8″ round plate of food. Save your $ and go elsewhere unless you like giving up your greenbacks for crappy food.

Just like I remember San Diego. This place brought San Diego to Texas. Carne asada fries were very good. Don’t ask for ground beef, they don’t do that here.

I was skeptical about this place. The cheesy posters… it’s on Rosedale… I shouldn’t have doubted you Sombrero. The calamari tacos are amazing! The fresh salsa! The pickled hot carrots! My husband is from San Diego and is thrilled that there’s finally a place for him to get carne asada fries. He also loves the Calafornia burrito. Service is fast and friendly. P. S. taco Tuesdays =$ 2 tacos!

California burritos and carne asada fries are on par with San Diego burrito joints. They should have horchata by now too :) Staff is friendly and courteous. My only complaint is that the fries are a bit overpriced, and the fries in the California burritos seem to always be shoved into one side. They need to be evenly dispersed. Either way if you’re from SD, or were stationed there then this is the place for you to satisfy your craving.

Sombrero’s is fairly new to Rosedale Street. It’s a San Diego based chain. My husband always talks about how pretty San Diego is and how fun San Diego is. Take me already! While I wait for our trip to San Diego one day, I just look up what San Diego is known for. The food lover in me does that. Looks up what food the city is known for. Like New Orleans and their Po Boys, Tampa and it’s Deviled Crab, Philly and it’s cheese steak, Chicago’s pizza… You get the picture. So San Diego is known for it’s Carne Asada fries and rolled tacos. Carne Asada fries are just that. Carne Asada on top of fries with cheese, guac, and sour cream. I got the carne asada and carne asada fries. Sombreros is VERY small. Fits about 10 people or less. The carne asada fries were a nice concept, but probably would be better if it wasn’t from a fast food restaurant. Would I be back? Not to this location in Fort Worth.

The food was excellent!!! We had veggie burritos and bean and cheese burritos with chips and hot sauce. I love the fact that they use soybean oil in their beans. The beans have a good favor.

I don’t know what«San Diego» style Mexican food is but the food was not good. Ordered the cheese enchiladas and it was super salty.

Great place for anyone craving SanDiego style Mexican food. This will fill the craving until you can get back to the west coast. Carne Asada burrito and fries area must. As are the jalapeños and carrots on the salsa bar.

Highly disappointed with this restaurant. Menus do not disclose as to what ingredients come in the food that one orders. Case in point: Beef Enchiladas. Typically made with hamburger meat and chili sauce on top. Not so with this restaurant, nor did they disclose that they make their enchiladas with brisket and cover it with mole sauce. Horrible. Absolutely Horrible. And for the price that I paid for it? Should have been charged ½ price. Oh, and don’t order 1 extra enchilada –that will set you back $ 2.50. Employees were not professional when contacted by phone. The three employees working were horsing around thinking that my husband’s phone call about the food was a prank. Needless to say, my husband was quite upset and irate at this point. The menu doesn’t explain what’s in the prepared item — they need to. Otherwise, one might now know what they are getting when they order. I WILLNOT be recommending this restaurant to anyone that I know.

Just been open a couple weeks maybe. Saw them building it, and then heard it was a chain out of San Diego thats supposed to be real popular. I’m over in this area several times a month and got a chance to try it out for lunch. Got the Carne Asada Fries, and the Cali Taco. Placed my order, and grabbed a table. Not real big inside, but there were about 6 tables or so to sit at. Most 2 seaters, but a few 4+ seaters. They have a small salsa bar with verde, smoked, chunky, and pico. I tried the smokey and chunky. Both were good, the chunky(not really that chunky) had a slight zip to it, but nothing I would call spicy. First advice here, get the half order of the carne asada fries. The cashier asked when I ordered, and when they do that, it usually means a full order is huge. Must be, because the half order I got was pretty big. I got sour cream, and guac added to mine. I like the way they do their fries. They don’t douse, or overdo the sides so much that the fries are soggy couple minutes later. There was plenty of side stuff, plus a more than fair amount of carne asada. While they didn’t have the seasoning taste of others I’ve tried, they were better because everything seemed much fresher, and had a better taste to it then others I’ve tried. Added the two salsa’s to it, which livened them up a little. The Cali Taco was good, although I was going off the picture, and what I thought was fish were actually fries. That was my mistake, not theirs, so while it was good, I was on carne asada overload. Next time I’m going to get a couple different things. The soft taco was filled with fries, meat, sour cream, and pico. Not sure, I think it might have had guac to. You might want to check yourself. Good stuff, fairly reasonable. my food and drink was about $ 11. It was plenty. The carne asada fries and Cali Taco are some of the higher items on the menu. Most of your other tacos are around $ 3. The also do enchilada’s, chile relleno, tortas, burritos and more. They also serve breakfast. They have a drive thru.
