I remember when the TCU bookstore was being rebuilt and that time it caught on fire. Then there was a trailer. Those two experiences alone earn this store four stars because of the major upgrade this bookstore was the day it opened. This store is a hybrid of a college bookstore and a Barnes and Noble. There are books downstairs(novels, memoirs, Bibles, etc.) as well as tons of TCU swag from shirts to hoodies to holiday ornaments. There’s also a Starbucks which is great for reading, meeting up with someone, or just taking advantage of free wi-fi. Upstairs you will find tech accessories, purple TCU scrubs for nursing majors, and textbooks. You used to be able to go back and search for your books. Now that area has been closed off. You can also rent textbooks. Needless to say, lots has changed about that part of the bookstore. Overall, this is a nice bookstore and serves many purposes, mainly being the place for students to pick up textbooks and students, alumni, and visitors alike to pick up some TCU paraphernalia.

It is a misnomer to call this a bookstore in the traditional sense. I went in looking for Supreme Court Justice, Stephen Breyer’s new book and expected a feature of it on an end cap or something, as it is a significant piece of current contemporary writing, but they didn’t have it at all. They do have, on the other hand large sections devoted to pop culture, and about 100 different kinds of Bible for you to choose from, as well as the aforementioned flood of purple and white cloths for you to drape over your torso, head, hands, and feet without abandon. So if you’re interested in the appearance of learning without the work, this is the place for you.

Echo what has been written; there isn’t much to annotate here honestly. It’s a Barnes and Noble, so you have your typical overpriced Starbucks drinks which save me from succumbing to sleep during class. The baristas are friendly as well as the rest of customer service in Barnes and Noble. Unfortunately lines can get pretty long here in the beginning of the semester because the rush of getting your books. And sometimes… they even run out of the books that you need for class! Yikes. At least they are courteous enough to let you special order the book through them, or they will go ahead and order the books if they have yet to be on the shelves. So, my advice? You better get your books early; I know it’s a double edge sword but honestly waiting in line for a long time and receiving my books is much less stressful than trying to scramble and order a book. Or you can completely opt out and order books online. Though… some professors like to custom make the books for the course… so you can’t get them anywhere else. Just try to order early/buy the book early. The first floor consists of Starbucks and your TCU apparel and the second floor is composed of books, random articles of clothing, school supplies, and dorm room supplies. It’s a nice eclectic mix for all your needs if you don’t feel like driving out to Target or something. What can I say? I’m a fan.

There is one thing you look for in a good college bookstore, and it’s definitely not books, it’s apparel. This bookstore is absolutely loaded with TCU apparel. If you’re looking for a hat, jersey, or shirt they have you covered and you will have plenty to choose from. I’m sure they sell text books here too, but that’s a waste of beer money.
