Jim-Bob’s Famous Fish And Chips

Excellent fish and chips. Located at the Extended Hands Food Bank Warehouse (located in an industrial park), so setting is quite spartan but very clean. Picnic tables with checked table cloths, family style seating in very casual, cafeteria style setting. A great deal, $ 9.99 includes all you can eat fish and chips, hush puppies, ice tea and dessert. Best of all, all profits go to a great cause — the Fountain Hills Extended Hands Food Bank. Once you get your first order at the kitchen, if you want more it’s brought to you at the table. Also, if you can’t stay and eat, you can call in your order and take it to go.
This fish fry is very popular and the first time we went, about 6:30, they were already out of fish. Just went this last Friday and really enjoyed it. Fish was perfectly done, and the line went out the door. The mood is jovial, I think everyone’s in a great mood enjoying good food with their neighbors in a very casual setting, knowing they’re doing something good for the community.
You may see «reserved» signs on a couple of the tables — if you have a large group you can call and reserve a table — a good idea as they get quite busy.
I’m giving Jim-Bob’s five stars, not because this is a five star restaurant with white linen, fantastic service and a fancy wine list, but because they are doing the one thing they intend to do very well — put out great fish and chips and help those less fortunate — that’s worth five stars in my book. Kudos to all of those that volunteer each Friday.
So, if you’re looking for somewhere quick and casual to eat some Friday, I highly recommend Jim-Bob’s. (Note that they are open only on the first and third Fridays of each month, 4pm-​7pm or until the fish runs out.)
(BTW — can be kinda hard to find, made worse by the fact that both Apple and Google maps have not updated street names. Your GPS and the map show turning at Cosmic Drive from Shea, but the sign at Shea says «Technology Drive». So, directions: take Shea to Technology (Cosmic) Drive (Jim-Bob’s will probably have a small A-​frame sign at the corner, all they’re allowed to have), take Technology to Laser Drive, turn right on Laser, watch for small sign on the right.)
