Been having some issues with my laptop. The guy who was working took a quick look and did some tests to see if he could figure out the problem without taking everything apart and having a look inside. He told me that based on what he could see, he would assume it was the motherboard. I asked him the price of a full diagnostic and he said it would be $ 85 for parts and labor and then on top of that another $ 400 – 500 to replace or fix the motherboard. The guy was very helpful, didn’t seem at all like he was trying to scam me, rather, he seemed like he wanted to be sure that I was aware of the problem and the possible next steps. Even though he gave me his advice, I decided to wait and see if there was anything else I could do. Even though I didn’t get my computer fixed, I was thankful that the guy working there seemed to know his stuff, gave me a quick and easy answer and it didn’t cost me anything. As long as his shop is there, I will most likely continue going to him, should I experience other computer related difficulties.

Trust is a valuable commodity that cannot be bought or sold, it must be earned. When we average computer users run into trouble, unless a family member or close friend is an expert, it gets dicey as to where to go for help. I have tried what little I know as well as a couple ill advised Internet clean up/speed up programs which made matters worse. I took a chance and stopped in to Computer Geeks and talked with Craig about general computer topics. I advised him I was prepared to purchase a desktop, and two laptops for my business after quickly sensing Craig’s grasp of all things computer. By the way, Craig is a very large man, as I am 6′ and I was looking up at him and while he looks like a Rugby player, he is a very nice guy. Remember, I began with a statement concerning trust because it is the hallmark of how I regard Computer Geeks. You see, Craig could have made a handsome sale that day, but he didn’t. Instead, he earned two things that are worth far more than a point-of-sale transaction. 1) Trust– just because I entered the store that day with my mind made up that it would be in the best interest of my business to simply replace my computers. Craig could have provided me with the equipment and software I had requested and in the process earned his store a tidy sale for the day. What he did instead earned my BUSINESS, from one business to another. All of my IT equipment will come from that store if it is within their realm of expertise, that is how highly I regard the integrity of Craig and his employer. Instead of a sale that particular day, I returned a few later to purchase a new laptop. Craig had suggested we work with my existing equipment to determine if it was corrupted, obsolete, or simply in need of professional attention. Within one day I had the first computer back and running as good as the day it was purchased. The next unit followed in another day with the same result, and there are three more computers headed his way tomorrow. Craig made suggestions that didn’t necessarily deprive his employer of a sale, but it was information representing a significant cost savings to my business almost like he was consulting for me as a neutral third party. He created a win-win for his employer, and for myself, which suggests he is encouraged to operate in this fashion by his employer. There is no better sign of integrity and good business savvy. 2) Reputation– word-of-mouth still trumps any form of advertising especially in the context of our family and friends. How often have we consulted someone we trust about a reputable company with which to provide any number of services ranging from auto mechanics to, say computer repair? Probably a good number of times lacking actual research data on the topic, but I personally have sought, and offered such advice. I now fully endorse Craig and Computer Geeks in Fountain Valley, California to anyone seeking my advice on where to have computers of any type repaired or to purchase new equipment. Outstanding work Craig! Thank you so very much, Patrick Minns
