Have to raise my review. Whole wheat everything is jammin’ and the staff are just as sweet as can be.

Done. They are now my go-to bagel place for bagels. Nothing fancy on the outside or inside but has the good old Jersey bagels we sought. No bready grocery-store bagels here!

Ever since I moved from Edison to Franklin park I longed for decent bagel place. Something that would at least come close to «Bagel Pantry, Metuchen». I tried a few place but finally I came across Bagel Express, tucked in a corner of a small strip mall, and I believe its runs on «Girl Power» or «Ladies In Black» that’s what it was all women in black. That apart the bagels were fresh made in house on site and they were closest to the Bagel Pantry which I miss so dearly. I can see myself coming here for for Sunday Breakfast after the mass. :)

Yeah no… To charge customers for toasting a bagel is Just wrong and greedy. Will not be coming here ever again. There are other establishments that won’t rob the Customer, smile in your face talking about have a great day.
I can’t believe it’s come to being a cheap skate toward Customers. Like I said b4 other places out there. That Will toast for no charge. No stars for trying to be funny and get way with it… keep your bagels… maybe they Will charge for eating in next.

My five stars isn’t just for the consistently great food, but for the always awesome customer service which for me is just as important. The food is always fresh and delicious, and the ladies there are always very kind, polite, and efficient. Definitely the best bagel place around. I highly recommend it.

The bagels may be good but there are some other basic issues compared to bagel cafes around: rude counter person at times, no power sockets in seating area and no internet access which I feel are basics for a breakfast place today.

I have absolutely no issue with bagel express. Service is sweet and prompt. Breakfast sandwiches are good, and the location is awesome for those of us in north Brunswick. Went in today at 8:30 for some breakfast sandwiches and was served promptly with a smile. 5 — 7 min later I walked out with three breakfast sandwiches. Major plus that they have turkey bacon. Bagels themselves were a good size but nothing crazy. Solid bagels. But I’d agree that the place could use a face lift. It’s a little old looking but I mean as long as the product is good, did I get my socks blown off? No. But will I be back? Yes. In the area and craving a breakfast sandwich? Stop on by.

Bagels, like pizza, cheesesteaks and a few other comfort food, bring out the strongest opinions. We all have our favorites, and we tend to forget how subjective the whole evaluation process really is. All I can do is describe how I react to what/where I am eating, and let the chips fall where they may. So it was when I stepped inside Bagel Express yesterday morning. The line of customers was literally out the door, and the tables were almost all occupied. My expectations rose with the anticipation that the people here knew a good thing when they hungered for it. After a long ride, I had no problem standing for a while and taking in the local color. Bagel Express sits in a rather forlorn strip center with a tight parking area that can’t possibly handle all the surrounding businesses. It has been at this location for a long time and it has taken a toll on the facility. Standing at the register to order and looking behind the high bagel bin wall, the wear and tear of running this shop shows. Still, if the final product is good, the rest can be ignored. The folks behind the counter are efficient and as friendly as possible. They have been at this for decades, and their movements reflect that familiarity with the layout and repetitive nature of the business. They can turn out a good sandwich or bag o’ bagels in a flash. I ordered the standard Onion Bagel, Butter and Swiss with a Large Coffee, and had it back to me in about 3 minutes. After the 15 minute wait to reach the counter, that was remarkable. I had intended to eat there, but that was clearly impossible, so I took my breakfast out to my car to enjoy during my cruise back to Bucks. The Coffee was excellent for a Bunn Drip. The Bagel was pretty good. It was loaded with Baked Onion Flakes, but the outer skin was not as firm and crunchy as I prefer, and the bread within was not as chewy. Still, it had several slices of good Swiss and Sweet Butter spread richly across its surfaces. Not my favorite bagel, but still well worth eating. The price coming in under $ 5. was a pleasant surprise, and worth repeating.

Best place to have breakfast or lunch, stay in or take out. Excellent service and the place is clean and feels like home. They bake fresh bagels every day and have many choices of bagels(salt, egg, garlic, bialy, minus, blueberry, energy, rye, whole wheat, poppy, sourdough, Apple cinnamon, onion, wholewheat everything, everything, sundries tomatoe, jalapeño cheddar, sesame, multigrain, cinnamon raisin, chocolate chip, plain). Variety of spreads and my favorite is the Nova Scotia Lox. They also make pancakes, eggs, rolls, muffins, tuna salad, etc.

I listened to the other reviews and got the nova scotia lox… SODELICIOUS. They’re also very friendly and fast. I’ll have to go back and try something different next time.

My family has been going here for years. It has only gotten better since«The Girls» took over almost 10 years ago. Their food is hands down the best for miles around. They go out of their way to make sure it is all great. We have eaten bagels in many many places, but none come close to the nice lite texture of theirs. Guaranteed you try it once and you will become a regular. They also serve a great lunch food variety including subs and sandwiches. So if it’s great food priced more than reasonably(way less than your local diners) then this is your diamond in the rough.

Grew up coming to Bagel Express for bagels. Now that I live out of state, when I come back to NJ to visit it is always very nice to return here for a nice toasted bagel. Been to a few other bagel shops on 27, and none compare to Bagel Express!!! Good prices as well. It is does get busy so sat or sun morning be prepared for a possible wait.

I have been going here for 5+ years for my saturday bagels. The people are nice, place is clean and food is consistent. Bagels are not the doughy kind but are good for fried egg sandwiches. The wait can be long so go early!!!

I dropped by for a quick breakfast — a sausage, egg and cheese on a whole wheat everything bagel and a medium coffee to be exact. I wasn’t looking for service, but a quick & tasty breakfast for cheap. The bagel was fantastic, the coffee decent and the total bill was $ 5.41. I can’t complain.

People, people, people… we need to talk. Now, I’m all for supporting local businesses before heading to any establishment considered to be a chain, but i have to draw the line somewhere, and that line is at Bagel Express. It pains me to do this to the friendly people at Bagel Express, but while eating the Cinnamon Raisin bagel i bought there I couldn’t taste cinnamon or raisin. What I did taste was a tough, dry bagel with a stiff smear of cream cheese. I know bagel making is a tough business, but if you have the word«bagel» in your name, you best be able to deliver.

My local(near home) «go to» bagel place. Four star bagels, two star service(glacially slow). First, here’s the scene. Sunday Morning, our home kitchen cleaned, I don’t want to make something for breakfast and mess it up again. So I head to Bagel Express. 10−11AM on Sunday, the wait here is always 10 — 15 — 20 minutes. I would bail, but my wife and daughter want a bagel so I stand in line. There are three women behind the counter that have been there for years and know their stuff. The last time I was there I got the«new girl» and I ordered — «(2) plain bagels with cream cheese and(1) plain bagel with egg salad». She looked at me vacantly and said«What?» Literally she almost had to write down that simple order. Luckily she wasn’t there today(6⁄29). The wait is so bad because they cook breakfast and sandwiches to order(egg on a bagel, pork roll and cheese, scrambled eggs.) I would rather go to the local Omega diner. The food is better, the service is faster, and none of the endless, waiting, waiting, waiting.(15 minutes for today’s order). The Bagels though are very good, and they have a great selection. My favorite is the pork roll and cheese on a sesame bagel with salt, pepper and ketchup. I never order it anymore, because you can get a filet at Ruth’s Chris faster than you can get a sandwich here. Prices are very reasonable, although I’ve noticed that the portion size(say of egg salad) is getting skimpy. Plus with the latest salmonella tomato ban, no tomatoes available. In summary, good food, glacial service.
