The worst«asian» food I have ever had. Completely tasteless. Was asked if I wanted white or fried rice with dish, I chose the fried rice, which seemed to be simply minute brown rice. I wrote a review previously. very short and to the point. simply stating that«I can’t believe all the good reviews». Got this message from Unilocal today, «We wanted to let you know that we’ve removed your review of Ching Asian Bistro. Your review was brought to our attention by the Unilocal community, and we found that it fell outside our Content Guidelines because it did not provide enough detail about your customer experience.» …so now I know why they have such good reviews! LOL!!! I have written just as short reviews for some other places and have NEVER had this happen!

Went on Halloween, place was pretty empty due to the holiday, I’m sure. Had crab wontons, sesame chicken, and Kung Pao beef. Wontons were pretty typical, but tasty. Kung Pao was very good, tender beef, fresh veggies, right amount of spice. Sesame chicken was the surprise star. Very lightly breaded, nice and crisp, and flavorful sauce without being drowned in it or too thick like most. If you don’t live in one of the nearby subdivisions then it’s a decent trip to get out to it, but worth it. Will definitely be back. Anxious to try some other dishes to see if they measure up.

Ching Asian Bistro is a nice surprise on this side of town. They have a good selection that’s different from the standard cheap take-out Chinese shop, with a healthier mix of fresh ingredients too. Yes, they have a more American menu, but it’s not entirely orange chicken-like dishes. They have good ma po tofu, which is one of my favorites. The prices are high if you’re used to Chinese restaurants in areas with more competition, but even within all of Franklin you’ll have a hard time matching this food. If you eat family style(which is the most authentic way to do it!) then you’ll probably find your bill total to be reasonable. The service is great and the team works hard. Parking is always easy in the nearby parking lot or on the street right in front of the restaurant.

Better than your average Chinese and fabulous service, but at Westhaven price points. That is the neighborhood it services mostly and many folks care for convenience over culinary variety there. Still, the Chicken Lo Mein is very tasty. More veggies would be nice, but protein is the star here.

Of the«fast food» Chinese restaurants in Franklin this is the best. Tried them all many times and now only go here for fast food Americanized Chinese. Got the sesame chicken … Plenty for two and tasted fine. Spring rolls were small and average. Price about the same as others. Service was good enough. I’ve only done take out.

I’m going to start by giving Ching Asian Bistro the benefit of the doubt and a half extra star(since we can’t give halves, they get 4). In the past I have had some of the world’s finest Chinese food and some of the world’s most mundane(could have been frozen TV dinner for that matter.) But Ching’s hit the sweet spot on my palate. Granted, for me the dinner started off on the wrong foot… that is, being served hot tea in a mug with a tea bag tied on the handle. Sorry, I prefer the traditional small pot and small cup.(FYI the tea was Bigelow Organic Green Tea… so the flavor was fine. Just the oversize mug and presentation was off-putting.) Fortunately, that was the worst of the night and everything after that was good to very good. For starters Hot and Sour Soup. This was a treat… very rich and flavorful — beef-flavored broth with bits of veggies, mushrooms, and sprouts. Gold star for this one. Second treat was the Ma Po Tofu, a Szechuan dish with chunks of tofu, minced water chestnuts, onions, and mushrooms in a chestnut-colored Chinese hot sauce. Again, rich and flavorful with just the right amount of heat. Third dish was a little less appealing — Chicken with Broccoli and Carrots. Chicken was very tender but overall the dish was bland. Next time(and we will return) we’ll try the Sushi(Chinese Sushi?)…well, it’s on the menu and looks pretty tasty. Service was prompt, polite and efficient. Yes, I’m a fan.

The food actually was not bad, so I could consider going back there for take out. But that’s really all it’s good for. The team on the floor are unfortunately just kids who haven’t apparently been trained. This is apparently their first jobs and they don’t have any experience in hospitality. They don’t approach the table quickly(or know that they have a new table). They’re also pretty contentious, as if they’re doing you a favor by taking your order. If the management paid more attention to training the wait staff, this might be a decent place. But I’ll stay away from this place.

Sometimes you will find yourself in unfamiliar territory and pull over, crank the olé Unilocal app up and find somewhere to dive in, get a bite, and make a discovery because of your fellow Unilocalers. Other times, you read limited reviews and think«man, random Chinese sounds good». And yet other times, the stars line up in that way and the place sucks. This would be that time. Chicken wings are done. That’s it. They are hot. They are cooked thoroughly. And thus ends the compliments. The five spice chicken was flavorless as was the beef and broccoli, both hammered by sauce so hard they were drowning. They must have a helluva knife back there though. The meat is so microscopically thin it’s amazing. Welcome to the Chinese Capital of Mediocrity.

I only rate two stars because of how delicious the food and wine was. my in laws and I were very upset celebrating Father’s Day and my partners birthday. As we sat waiting for the rest of our party, we had to ask for menus. my mother in law wanted a glass of wine but never received it. I found gel like goo on a piece of my broccoli and as my partner asked the staff what it was, they told him it was just the sauce. not ruling anything out, I looked all over my plate to see if maybe the sauce gels when cold; but nothing else was found. once we received the bill, my original dish I barely ate was on there. my partner asked if it could simply be removed, to which the manager responded with a snippy«no, everyone had that sauce.» we paid tipped and left. we will not return.

Ok; update. August, 2014. Seems they have some new staff. The hipster douches are gone and replaced with some Asian folk who are much better. Been two times this month and the experience is much better. Very glad, cause the place has so much potential.

Our second trip to this restaurant was on a not so busy night. I’d love to rate this place 5 stars, but the service is pretty bad. Their wait staff needs to be trained. This is a drive for us and lots of traffic along the way, which is worth it for great Chinese Food. The people that work there don’t seem happy to see you, it takes a long time just to flag someone down on a non-busy night to place your order. It seems like they don’t want to make too many trips to each table. I asked the manager if we could please place our entrée order while waiting for our appetizers and she said the waitress would take it when she brings our appetizers. I don’t really like sitting around talking to a waitress while our egg rolls become cold. Another big bother is that the dinner plates are the size of appetizer plates. They never offered us to-go boxes, they never offered refills or watched the level of our drinks, they didn’t clear plates as we finished. The food is good, but we probably won’t be back for such a long drive for bad service. We experienced this both times we tried this restaurant with 2 different waiters.

This is the best chinese I’ve found in nashville… They have these fried chicken wings that are insane! I love the fried dumplings as well… Great Chinese!

I’ve eaten here a couple times. The spider roll is OK, very heavy on the rice. Not sure if the other rolls are like that too, but… yeah like twice as much rice as you might expect. The rest of the food was OK.

I loved this restaurant, yall! I lived in Hong Kong for two years and this restaurant is a welcomed throwback to those glory years in Hong Kong. The vegetables and produce are all fresh and the cooking is authentic. I look forward to becoming a regular and getting to know the owners a bit better. Had MaPo Tofu which is an extremely Chinese dish and thought it was delicious. Sichuan chicken was great and so was the Moo Goo Gai Pan.

Fantastic Chinese food done well every time! Finally no more soggy general or orange chicken, great dumplings and reasonable pricing. As an update i had to take it down one notch, the fried rice is just uninspired and really needs to be taken up to the level of the other offerings.

Basing all of my expectations on Chicagoland take-out Chinese, this place was as good as the rest of the take-out places in Franklin. That’s not a good thing. Crab Wontons were good and full, fried dumplings(potstickers) were ok, but the main dishes were seriously lacking flavor. Fried rice served with the meals was terrible, absolutely terrible.

Ching Asian is the ONLY place to get Chinese food in West Franklin. The owners are a local couple and run the restaurant themselves, and they care about the quality of their food. We have eaten here about 100 times and have never been disappointed. Don’t go anywhere else!

It’s not often as a Unilocaler that I go to check in at one of our favorite spots, and find that other Unilocalers have obviously not discovered a place. If you are a Franklin resident or not, you need to check out this adorable little Chinese place that is in the posh Westhaven subdivision west of Franklin proper, out Highway 96. Ching’s isn’t a big place, I think there’s only about 15 tables in the whole place. It’s family owned, and as you look around you might wonder why one wall is papered in a feminine oriental tea pattern, and the other is a darker copper accented Chinese letter pattern. Like often happens in marriages, that’s because the husband and wife owners couldn’t agree, so they picked both. This is NOT a buffet Chinese restaurant, you are seated and order your entrée of choice that comes on a larger plate ideal for shaing and your choice of fried or white rice. They have all the usuals you are probably expecting: Cashew Chicken, Beef and Broccoli, Seafood Delight… and whatever you choose, your order if prepared fresh just for you. It’s very reasonably priced, the Cashew Chicken that I enjoyed Saturday is like $ 8.95, hubby’s Beef and Broccoli is like $ 9.95. Beer and wine are offered, and they have good wonton soup for a starter or our favorite, crab rangoons. I know, it’s really cream cheese with a touch of crab rolled in a dumpling they fry… unhealthy by any accounts, but delicious so I don’t care. It’s a neighborhood kind of place, tons of to-go orders stream in and out from Westhaveners enjoying life and grabbing a quick dinner. The servers are nice, young folks for the most part that all speak English, many appear to be many folks from Westhaven and not Asian at all. Ching’s isn’t an overly remarkable place, except for the fact that Cool Springs in all its splendor really doesn’t have a good non-buffet Chinese place that isn’t a Japenese hibachi type of P.F. Chang’s. I love the smaller, independently owned shops, and this one is just our style. You can use chopsticks, you can use a fork — no judgement. If you visit on a pretty weekend day, Westhaven does have a pond out front of this portion of the strip shopping center where they rent canoes and paddleboats. If you haven’t toured Westhaven at all, please do and drive thry admiring the great houses, commons areas and parks. And yes, the developer who created Seaside, Florida of «Truman Show» fame did develop Westhaven… and it’s just as cute as you imagine. Word to visitors from areas other than Franklin, pay close attention to speed limits on Highway 96 venturing out of Franklin to here. Franklin Police are serious, and this is a favorite area for ticketing. But other than that, do visit!
