Mason Mountain Mine

We had a great time mining! All of the employees were amazing! Dakota and Earnest were such a help!!! We can’t wait to return!

This location isn’t going to win any beauty awards. This was our first gem mining experience and we weren’t so sure at first. In the end, though, the kids had a great time and they want to go back tomorrow! We started with a $ 100 salted bucket and the kids just loved that. The bucket was LOADED! It seemed too easy for us adults. Later, the owner let us do a native bucket for free. The kids didn’t care for that but the adults really enjoyed doing the real deal. Next time we’ll let the kids do their own salted buckets while the adults do the native stuff. The native dirt was easy to work with… not a lot of clay
There were a couple of guys there who drove 7.5 hours from Ohio to spend the night at a hotel and mine all day. They were experienced miners who had visited this location a few times before.
The kids walked away with two huge bags loaded with many different types of stones. After we were done, the owner went thru everyone’s findings to explain what we got and also taught us a lot about stones. The owners were really nice, talked to us for a long time and threw in a few freebies.
There were a couple of plain restrooms with running water. Good enough to get the job done. There was plenty of equipment and roof cover if you need it. They can do gem cutting and jewelry work there if you want it. There was no high pressure sales tactic to use their services.
We will definitely be coming back!
